The store looks beautiful, but I went for a book reading. Not being one of the Danville cognoscenti, didn't realize that one needed to make a reservation for a dinner- the notice on the author's page on Amazon mentioned a reading. When an employee came to unlock the door (there was a notice closing early due to event) he told me about the dinner making clear it it was for the invited. I mentioned the notice on Amazon and he said we don't have any control over Amazon and shut the door. i'd traveled an hour and a half to get there, am from Port Angeles (the fictional Port Bonita) and am buying the book elsewhere-the idiot didn't offer to sell me a book after all that!
I have been shopping at Rakestraw Books since I was a kid and I am always impressed by the authors they bring in to speak. It's a small store but the writers are the best around. Over the past couple years, I have heard Michael Chabon, Richard Russo, Richard Ford, and many others. I just read today that they are bringing Barbara Walters to the bookstore. And, best of all, the bookstore is an intimate space, so you really get a chance to interact both with the authors and other members of the audience.
