I recently had one of the worst scenerios a dog owner can have. My best friend and dog of 13 yrs was struck and killed by a car. His body was broken as was my heart. We called El camino to ask if they would hold him and handle the private cremation which they said they would. I had wrapped my broken and bloody friend in a blanket and put him in my truck. When we arrived I told the receptionist why we were there, not even looking me in the eyes she said " it will be alittle while". I was floored. When i asked what the procedure would be she said " I dont know, Ill send someone out when I can" My wife went in and was told we would have to make an appt and wait in line. Im a grown man of 47 yrs and have had dogs (up to 4 at a time) that are our family and I felt a disgust and pain only animal folks would understand
We left and took our Dog to another vet hospital and even though they also had 2 people in the waiting room we were greeted with immidiete attention and the kind of respect and compassion you would expect from a caregiver.
I have never put a price on my animals well being or care. I have only ever asked for the respect and love that they deserve.
This may be simply the result of a poor choice in hires but I would expect that there would be a pre requisite of "must love and have compassion for animals" somewhere in the hiring process

Chris, I am truly sorry for your experience and I am so sorry for your loss. This is not typically how we handle situations like yours. I am eager to speak with you and learn more details about this incident. If you could please call the hospital and ask for Tammy (Hospital Administrator), I would greatly appreciate your time. My number is 916-488-6878. Thank you in advance for your time.

I just want to let everyone know how fabulous ElCamino Vet Hospital is. The staff is wonderful and very attentive to my pets. If I ever having an issue with either of my dogs or my cat, I get in right away. I have been looking at some of the negative reviews and am quite surprised by these. About some of the issues with payments of services, #1, you get what you pay for and if you cant afford vet bills, dont get an animal. Pets get into all sorts of things and as a pet owner, you should know this. All the employees at ElCamino Vet Hospital, are truely wonderful and not to mention kind and caring. The front desk girls are one of the reasons I love to stop in and say hello. Keep up the great work you guys!!! And, thanks again for making Jessie better. Kelly

My wife and I took our puppy for services (he ate his toy-fine now) The staff was extremely nice and the doctor was knowledgeable. My wife and I are grateful that they are open for emergency services, we would not have known what to do. We now use them for less dramatic appointments, they are just as great during the day.

I had a sad but good experience recently with this vet hospital. My friend and i took a tiny chihuahua there that had been attacked by something, another animal, car....something. She was bleeding and in pain and it was a horrible thing to see her go through. The Dr. and the staff were so nice and caring. They tried to help her but she had so much head trauma and damage that there was nothing they could do for her. I was so heartbroken that she could not be fixed that I had to stay outside while my friend went back in and made a DONATION, they did not expect compensation for their help. I would take my animals here anytime. I live across town so use a closer office but for after hours care, I would go to El Camino Vet Hospital for sure.

Thank you to the Dr. and the staff that was there when we brought in the tiny baby.

I woke up this morning to my chocolate lab throwing up - she was wobbly and soon after she started drooling. I called El Camino Emergency vet and they told me on the phone that I could bring her in and that it would cost $120 to be seen (they told me upfront what the charges were). We took her in and during the exam they found her tummy was tender to touch. They offered to do an x-ray and gave me the estimate on paper, which we agreed to. After the x-ray they found she had a blockage and again gave me an estimate for injections that would get her on track. I agreed to the second estimate too and had a wonderful experience with everyone that I came in contact with while at the vet. These people are wonderful - they sacrifice a night away from their families so people like us with sick dogs can get in instead of waiting until morning. They were very caring but more important they took the time to explain to me what they were doing, what needed to be done and what I needed to do at home. Sure, it cost me a lot of money but I'm home now and my girl is feeling better. I developed a relationship with this vet and while I do have a regular vet that I have always taken my dog to I have decided to switch because they were that oustanding. They are not sneaky - they are straight up and they took the time to answer every question I had. Sure it's hard to walk away with a huge bill but it was so worth every bit that I paid.
If you are like me and reading reviews to see what other people said I think you need to go in just to see how wonderful they really are.

This practice has become totally unethical, and designed for "revenue enhancement" rather than compassionate care of pets. My pets were cared for there for many years until a complete change came, with more employees hired to try to get you to sign papers agreeing to wildly inflated charges than there to care for pets. I brought my elderly cat Benny there last week in the evening because our regular excellent vet was closed, and Benny had a severe laceration that was bleeding, and I did not know whether he could safely wait for care until the morning. No concern was shown at all for my cat's discomfort. ALL the emphasis was on trying to convince us to sign papers to pay nearly one thousand dollars for stitches that should not have comanded more than a $400 fee, at best. These tactics take advantage of the elderly, in particular, especially if they are alone with only their pets. Many would pay these outrageous and unethical fees out of fear and anxiety. These people should ALL be ashamed of themselves.

Business Response:

Hospital Manager Dear Darla M, I wanted to say how sorry I am to hear you were unhappy with our facility. As you can imagine, maintaining an emergency facility at night is costly. We try to employee the best staff, medicine, and instruments to ensure we are practicing the best medicine. We choose to be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in order to serve pets in need of emergency care. I understand that during harsh economic times a vet bill can be cumbersome and I fully appreciate your views and opinions. While it appears we lack compassion for pets due to the fact we must have approved treatment plans, unfortunately, our reality is, people leave without paying their bills. We were unable to continue to extend services based on good faith, an extremely unfortunate policy we had to implement. I would like the opportunity to speak with you directly, feel free to contact the hospital and ask for Tammy. I hope to hear from you. Thank you for allowing me to help try to rectify this sore topic. I wish you and Benny the best. Thank you. Tammy

I am truly shocked as I read the negative reviews posted, as my experience at El Camino Vet was so entirely different. The staff at El Camino, treated my dog Chloe for over four months due to multiple unknown fractions, as well as a leg amputation. I feel as though Tammy, Dr. Morgan and the staff at El Camino are my second family. I could never have made it through four month hard months without them.

Chloe stayed at El Camino for about four months as she recovered from various surgeries . Though Chloe had alot of medical issues stemming from bad breeding, the staff never gave up on her. I never doubted that she was receiving the highest level of care. When I would stop by, someone would always be sitting in her kennel loving on her or on the floor playing with her. The staff even brought in special treats for her as well as bowls from home ( Chloe liked to chew theirs up!). I knew that when she was there, she was top priority to everyone. They even nominated Chloe vet of the month which included a free visit because they knew I was struggling to pay her vet bills. Through the countless surgeries, Tammy and Dr. Morgan worked with my financial situation. It was never a question whether Chloe would have a surgery, but how we were going to make it happen. Tammy even plead on Chloes behalf for the surgeon to reduce his costs so she could have another neccessary surgery.

When it was time for Chloe to go home, things were difficult as Chloe kept hurting herself. Bound to solve this problem, Tammy worked it out so that I could bring Chloe every single day so she would be safe. They took care of her around the clock admistering up to 5-10 medications every few hours. Not only did Tammy give me her personal cell phone number to call anytime, but also came in on her days of just to make sure Chloe was doing well. When I happened to meet her family as they stopped in to say hello, they knew exactly who I was, just as every family of staff that I had met throughout Chloes treatment. They all had expressed their worries and hopes of Chloes recovery, as her recovery was just as personal to them as it was to me. Whenever Chloe knew that we would be going to the vet, she would get so excited and just had to give all the staff members some love and a kiss :) Despite all of Chloes medical problems, she loved going to the vet. Everyone was her favorite!

Chloes issues continues to progress, so El Camino even did a bone biopsy free of charge, along with the countless surgeries that were done at their cost. When Chloes eye issues began to get worse, Tammy even called the opthomologist to see if she would reduce the cost because she knew that I had already spent a significant amount. Tammy even offered to take Chloe to the opthomologist which was 45 minutes away, just because she wanted to make sure Chloe was not in pain. All they cared was getting Chloe better as well as making sure that I was okay too. Although we did not know it at the time, Chloe had an uncurable and nearly undiagnosable disease. When she passed away, the staff sat on the floor with me as I held Chloe. They cried with me and were feeling the same lose that I was. I know that Chloe would have wanted it that way as the staff at El Camino were her family too.

After Chloe passed away, Tammy continued to go above and beyond for me. The staff members called to make sure that I was okay and sent multiple cards. The opthomologist where Tammy referred me, even made a dontation in Chloes honor. They even incurred the cost to have her bones biopsied by two seperate pathologist.

Though I miss my dog Chloe everyday, I know that she had the best care possible. I honestly dont know how I would have made it through such a difficult time without the love and support of the staff at El Camino. I am grateful that Chloe was treated by the wonderful staff at El Camino because I know she was loved and cared for to the fullest extent.

A couple of nights ago I noticed that my cat was in extreme pain on her right side. I would barely brush her fur and she would cry out. Upon further investigation I noticed a swelling on that side and that she was burning up. Not wanting to take any chances I decided that she needed to go in to see a doctor immediately.

We put her in her carrier and rushed her to El Camino to find out what was wrong. I suspected either a tumor or an abscess but since I'm not an authority I didn't want to take the risk of not knowing for sure what was wrong.

We arrived and the staff seemed to be cooperative and competent but then the Vet arrived to examine our cat. She barely looked her over after checking that her temperature was 105.3 F. She claimed that our cat seemed tender in her abdomen but I knew that wasn't the case as she didn't react at all when she was palpitated there. However, the moment the lump on her side was touched she would react and cry. The vet immediately decided that she needed to do a blood test along with a possible x-ray to check for blockages, etc. The total for the recommended treatment was nearly $600. We decided to pass on the x-ray but went ahead with the blood test ($150). Turns out everything looked normal and nothing was revealed as a result.

Before sending us on our way we were basically told that our cat had a Fever of Unknown Origin and just to monitor her fever. We paid $300 to learn absolutely nothing about what was wrong. I was still certain she had an abscess, however.

The next day I was monitoring her closely and decided to gently stroke her side to see if I could feel any kind of entry wound and low and behold I discovered a slightly raised scab after just a moment. I applied the lightest pressure and a huge amount of pus was expelled. How could the vet have missed what I discovered so easily. She didn't even Attempt to look for a wound when she was performing her "examination".

We took our little girl to our regular vet and he immediately went to work on draining and cleaning the abscess. It was huge and covered about 1/4 of her body and was so bad that her skin had already separated from the muscle. She's now home on several medications and wearing a cone to prevent her from licking. When we told our regular vet about our experience at El Camino he wasn't surprised in the least. They have a history of being incompetent and of not providing the appropriate level of care, especially in an emergency setting. Not only will I never step foot in that hospital again, I will tell everyone about my experience and inform them of my less than satisfactory experience.

I just wanted to add that money or finances had no influence on my review. I would pay any amount of money in order to seek the appropriate treatment for my fur babies. My comments would remain the same regardless of the cost of care.

I have the up most respect for Dr. Morgan and the staff at El Camino Veterinary hospital. My dog was in a horrible car accident and hardly alive and in shock. I was so freaked out and could hardly control my emotions. The staff immediatley took my dog to the back room to begin treatment. Dr. Morgan worked with me on my financial situation so I would not have to put my dog to sleep. My dog ended up having surgery and loosing his eyes but is doing excellent now. Everybody was caring towards me when I was in histarics over my dogs condition. They did a great job all around and I am forever greatful for the care my dog and I recieved there. If you ever read this Dr. Morgan, Its been over 2 years but not a day goes by that I am not thankful for everything you did for my dog Harley!

I have a Yorkie I took into the El Camino Vet hospital and it was a very sad situation! MY dog was mis-diagnosed and almost died. I ended up taking her to another area animal hospital where my dog received the CORRECT treatment, and is ok today.

This place is WAY over priced! I was reading the reviews here, and I think it is VERY odd how the only GOOD reviews strangely sound like they would have been written by someone who works for this clinic, trying to make themselves sound like a GREAT PLACE!

And just an FYI!!! The sad story about the chihuahua that died, sounds like she was also mis-diagnosed. SHAME ON YOU for making a rude comment!

When we moved I had a vet that I didn't want to leave but El Camino Vet Hospital were recommended by two people I knew and I and my pets had a very good experience there. They were professional and nice and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend them. They seem to really care about our pets. It was also convenient to get their meds there and they were reasonable.

I took my older dog their because he was sick for a few days. The staff was wonderful and the DVM was very supportive in my decisions as well as informative. I am now a regular client.

I have read the reviews below and I firmly believe people only give negative feedback when there are money constraints. Dont own animals if you dont have money, espcially people breeding dogs i.e. the chihuaha, shame on you.

People should post constructive feedback, not complain about their personal finances i.e. money. I cant imagine the clients these people have to deal with. Yeah to the animal workers for their difficult job, thank you for saving mine.

The staff at El Camino Vet saved my dog. I took him in a few months ago because he ate a poisonous substance. Yes, it was expensive but well worth it as my dog is like a part of my and my huspand and children's family. Everybody was so kind in my families dificult time. The Dr. and staff kept us well updated on my dog's progress and made us feel like we could ask anything we needed to. It was two days that my dog had to spend there and I knew the whole time he was in good hands. When we left, they were very thorough in what we needed to do to follow up with our dog's condition. Overall my family is very pleased with the kindness and wonderful treatment my family and our pet received and am glad that our dog's health did not come down to money, as that is what other reviews sound like it has come down to for them. If you can't afford quality health care for your pet than maybe don't have a pet until you can afford the unexpected.

Visited this place about half a dozen times upon moving to the area and not knowing any better. NEVER take your pet here. Took a neighbors dog who got a cut on the edge of his ear. Not only was it almost a thousand dollars to stitch back up, but we had to wait almost an hour to see a doctor (four of us trying to keep the dog from shaking his head and working to slow the bleeding) - we could here casual conversations coming from the back. Then, I took my cat there for a lump on her belly. They diagnosed it as an unknown mass, probably benign, but recommended removal. I saved for a few weeks for the large fee that they were charging (something like $1,200) and took the cat in. They were to run a list of test ahead of time to ensure there would be no complications - it was a routine surgery. They said that there was a "complication with the anesthesia" - I believe that they overdosed her, she was a small cat.I'll not be back.

I've been going to El Camino Veterinary Hospital for years and felt that my pets received good care, and the prices seemed reasonable. I don't know when things changed, but I went to have a healthy, 20 lbs dog spayed, and their low estimate was $410. Three days before they gave me an estimate of $210, and then presented me the $400+ estimate when I arrived. Other pet hospitals in the area charge between $72 and $128. I'm sorry to have to give a negative review because I think Dr. Morgan is a great vet, but I'm switching to a nearby pet hospital.
