This is a wonderful place to hear some of Jazz's greatest musician for affordable prices and a really intimate setting. I saw Jackie McLean, McCoy Tyner and some other jazz masters for only $20 and a full hour session of face to face straight playing. The ambiance is extremely casual and come early for a cup of joe before the performance. If you're lucky you'll share a word or two with the artists. Always a treat and worth every penny.

I love this place. It's one of the few unique and affordable places in Los Angeles to come for really high quality live jazz. The atmosphere is very casual and welcoming and you can buy your tickets and pick out your seats in line. The venue has a small coffe bar and you can come 20-30 minutes early to get a close seat. Every seat in the house is great because the place doesn't hold over 100 people. THe seats are plastic and you feel very intimate with whoever your'e watching. A beautiful thing todo and hear some great people play great music.

The reason I thoroughly recommend The Jazz Bakery is that this place is really for jazz enthusiasts who enjoy music, pure and simple. This is a place where you aren't distracted by waiters, cigarette smoke, noisey patrons, or outdoor distractions. A simple room and stage, seating about 100 people (give or take 15 or so). The music is jazz straight ahead. If you like big band, bop, modern jazz, hard bop, or vocals, you won't be disappointed in this place's line-up of artists. It is located in old Culver City, as part of Helms Bakery facility, thus the name...Jazz Bakery. Prices are very reasonable, around $15-$30 per person for most shows. Seating in folding chairs and just listening to live jazz is great. I feel this is the preeminent place inLA to listen to jazz as performed by new and old artists alike. You can try to new wave of jazz clubs and restaurants, but I feel that one trip to The Jazz Bakery will force you to return again and again.
