The Best  4 Star Rating - Very good

By Judy T.

Growing up my mom always got cakes for party's at Sanitary. Over 25 years ago we got my wedding cake there. It was beautiful. The cakes always Taste heavenly. I also have got stuff for my kids there. My daughter just got engaged, and it makes me sad that we will not be able to get a cake from you.

VERY VERY Disappointing -- Not worth the Hype!!  1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

By Jackie S.

OK! I usually don't give places bad reviews BUT this place deserves it. I had such a bad experience. I went in there yesterday to inquire about their wedding cakes. A friend of mine used them and was quite pleased. I had read all the reviews here and thought that HEY - Gallis's Sanitary Bakery ...despite the strange name sounds like a good place -- i was absolutely wrong!

When I went in I immediately mentioned that the bakery had been recommended to me and that I'd like to speak to someone about wedding cakes. The counter girl immediately went into the back and a woman came out. The woman informed me that they no longer are making wedding cakes since they have had some problems with the help. Ok - sounds fine --tho weird for a place that claims on both their www site and on their business cards that they "specialize" in Birthday and wedding cakes. The woman mentioned that she'd would give me her son's phone number and that I could talk to him about the cake and see if they'd be making them again by July. However, she immediately followed it by a question -- where is your wedding going to me??? I told her that I'd be having it in Menlo Park. She immediately told me that they don't go down to Menlo Park (less than a 30 minute drive) and that she didn't want to waste their time or mine discussing it further. My mom asked her if she could recommend another bakery in our area -- to with the woman replied you are going to just have to look around. WOW !!! First - off she complained about the help (oh a big "no no" in business). Second, she told me that they don't do wedding cakes despite the fact that they claim their business is built on them. I can understand that a bakery doesn't want to deliver a cake "for free" to my area BUT declining absolutely is just strange. I was totally prepared to pay for a delivery charge. Lastly, the baked goods I bought were just average --- nothing remarkable. I bought the foccacia, 1 pineapple upside down cake and 2 canollis...

Yum, people bring cakes from Galli's all the time to my work and I am always really impressed with the decorations and taste of the cakes. This is a cute little Bakery and even from the outside you can smell the sweet cakes and cookies!

PROS: Yummy Cakes!
CONS: Busy in the mornings!

This bakery is family owned and is like stepping back in time - when you walk into the store it smells so GOOD. The baked goods are fresh and taste GREAT. They have a GREAT chose of baked goods - they have the traditional Italian cakes and baked goods. They do special order for all occasions. Friendly and helpful staff.

We go to Galli Sanitary Bakery for all our Bakery needs. Their breads are the best and can be bought very early in the morning while they are still warm. Their cakes are top shelf and all their bakery items are the same. You will always get the best service -- even when it gets crowded.

PROS: Great bakery items, always fresh, and great service
CONS: Parking can be tricky on Grand Avenue...but don't give up.

Best wedding cakes!  5 Star Rating - World class

My friends were raving about how they had found their "perfect cake" for their wedding. When they told me the name of the bakery, I have to say, it was a little offputting - I'm hoping most bakeries are sanitary. So I was joking with my friends about it and they started raving about it. I'm relatively new to the area and this bakery is an institution. And the family is said to be very nice! The proof is in the pudding (well in the cake). I have to say, when I get a wedding invitation, i start looking forward to the cake and this was perfect! Creamy frosting (my favorite part), moist cake. Next time I have an occasion, I'll get over myself and head to Gallis.

Pastries  5 Star Rating - World class

Galli's neighborhood bakery is a fine bakery is SSF. I usually am waiting in line in the early morning because the local deli folks stop by to pickup the fresh baked bread. If you've seen their fruit tarts, they are beautiful. They take the time to perfect their products. They also carry donuts and cookies for the kids. They are usually busy in the mornings but late morning is a good time to go where you don't have to wait in line. The staff is very friendly and help you if you don't know what to choose because there are soooo many to choose from.
