needed my tire mounted and installed. Called in to get a price check which was only $22.99 (I already had my own tire). I went in and went out within an hour. They were very efficient and helpful! Especially Matt at the front desk who was really nice!

I took my brand new chevy corvette to pepboys because I ran over a nail and it was stuck in my tire. They said they had to replace the tire because it was in the side wall and could not repair it. So ok I can understand that but the sales guy said ""the only tire we have in stock for your car is this one, and it's $1560 dollars plus mounting and balancing"". So I bought the tire because I'm rich and when the mechanic was driving it in, he hit the gas and ran my car backwards through the store glass windows, blowing out my other rear tire so I had to buy another $1560 dollar tire so I did because I'm very rich, and they wanted me to fix the damage to the front of the store because my car was too fast for what the mechanic was used to. So I said no way, Jose (and his name was Jose which I thought was funny) so he let it go. When my car was in the work area for the new tires, my new 2011 Corvette started on fire and was fully engulfed in flames and thus ruined. I asked the manager what happened and he said that the mechanic was smoking and he coughed and his cigarette landed in some gas and lit my car on fire and he wanted me to reimburse the mechanic for his cigarette. I said ""Hell no, you are the one that owes me one buddy"" so he gave me a few coupons for oil changes for when I get a new car which I purchased right away because I have a lot of money. So I brought my new brand new Lotus in the next day for one of my free oil changes and when they went to drive it in, they ran into a brick wall and the entire cement ceiling collapsed, crushing my car like a pancake and killing the mechanic and some other customers. So now I have a new Porsche 911 and I'm never going back to pepboys.

Affordable. Quality of service is decent. Unfortunately they tend to be backed up frequently so you do have to wait.

I took my mini cooper to pep boys on broadway in chula vista for an oil change and brake pads, what a mistake. First they tried to put on the wrong pads... after figuring that out they got the right ones on. I got into the car after paying and the brake pedal was worse than before. The brake pedal went straight to the floor so I got the manager and mechanic to look at it. "These are self adjusting pads so you have to drive a bit for them to adjust". So I drove for two days and nothing so I took it back. The first thing I was told is "We don't have any mechanics here now" it was 2pm. Brought it back two days later, "you'll have to wait 2 or 3 hours, we really got swamped" I got pretty loud and in the managers face; my car was immediately looked at. They didn't bleed the brakes the first time so they did it. Still didn't fix the problem, I was told it was the sensors in the brakes that cause the pedal to go to the floor. I took the car to a "real machanic" and he bleed the brakes and showed me how much air was in the lines..... pep boys will NEVER get my business again..... I won't even buy an air freshener from any of their shops. They shouldn't be in business.

They don't know what they are doing.

Example A.) When I took my truck to repair my overheating engine and radiator, they didn't tighten the hose properly. A week later the hose came out, the coolant leaked, and my engine overheated. I had to pull off the freeway, turn off the engine, and wait an hour and a half for a tow. Plus I spent a lot of money in cab fares going up and back and forth to the shop. They admitted that it was their fault.

Example B.) Pep Boys installed a catalytic converter in 2006 which was not carb approved for my vehicle (i.e., illegal to use). My truck will not pass the smog inspection now because of this, and now I will need to buy a new catalytic converter now.

Went to buy 4 tires and was told it would take 1 1/2 hours. Four hours later they finally finished. When I got home I found that they didn't put the fourth hubcap back on. When I called they said they still had it. I had to go back to Pep Boys to get it. They wanted to hand it to me. Unacceptable. I made them put it back on. On the ride home I heard a rattle. At the house I found that the cap was loose and that they had broked two tabs. Wanted to talk to a supervisor, who of course, was not there for a few days. Finally talked to him and he said he review the tapes and the hubcaps were the reason it took so long. This is on a Jeep with standard caps. Who hires someone that can't take off a hubcap? I was offered two free oil changes for my trouble. Of course, they were already advertising that you get 1 free oil change with every two tires purchased. I can't wait to see what I have to deal with when I try to use the road hazard warranty. Don't buy from PEP BOYS anything that requires any kind of service. They stink!

My dad purchased a battery 2 years ago. It was defective (not holding a charge) My dad passed away. My mom went back to Pep Boys to get a credit, even partial credit to buy a new battery. Manager says NO. Only the principal purchaser can get credit. She brought the death certificate. Manager still says no on partial credit. Battery is suppose to last 5 to 7 years. She goes to Costco. They provide a credit and discount on a new battery. We are telling all of friends/relatives/neighbors to boycott Pep Boys on Genesee. Manager is inhuman. With this economy, I guess they don't need to keep customers. We had been clients for more than 15 years.

this was the first time in years that i saw THE MANAGER being a jerk. His attitude is cocky and unacceptable. i already heard that pepboys had a terrible customer service, but i couldn't believe how terrible it was.

      i really couldn't believe that!
I tried to call the corporate office and report the manager and i couldn't believe that they don't support this type of thing. i should go talk to the manager, yet the manager was the person that acted like that! This is their company way of treating customers.

will never go there anymore! never! i recommend you go to the Autozone or the Kragen accross Balboa Ave for your parts needs as they will take a better care of you.

They screw up the alarm of my car and the locking system and now they are asking me to pay them to repair it! It took me 3 trips to their store and almost 20 hours total to have my brakes done correctly (they were making noise every time). The last time I went, they finally got the brakes right BUT they screw up my alarm and now they are asking me to pay them to repair it! GREAT DEAL! May be a bit cheaper at first but considering all the time I spent there and the fact that now I need to spend $200 to repair the alarm, I can guarantee that pep boys in Genessee is not a good deal. And the manager is everything but a good manager! Instead of apoligizing for their screw ups (3 trips for breaks and almost 20 hours is a bit too much!) then the alarm, well instead of that he was talking to me as if i was an idiot. Great customer service!\r\n

I bought four tires from Pep Boys during their buy three get one free sale that was on TV. Was supposed to get $150 after mailing in a rebate form, but four months later I still have no check, not really happy about it though I guess I can't blame the 92117 store for me not getting me a check from corporate headquarters, it just adds to my list here. It should be noted this store tried to charged me for an alignment that they didn't perform, I caught it on the bill and they took it off, they even said they didn't do an alignment and that it was only supposed to be a recommendation rather than a billing (sure it was).
All the same I was happy with my new tires.

Then about a month later my car really did need a wheel alignment, it pulled hard to the right and drifted when I didn't steer it straight. I decided to bring it to Pep Boys for service. The mechanic called me several hours later saying it was done and that I could come pick up my car. Since I live about half a mile away I walked there, but walking by I noticed the car hadn't been moved, it had parked a bit funny and was still parked the same way I left it (with the wheels cocked), I pointed out that my car hadn't been moved and they said again it was fixed. So I paid, got my keys, and drove out of their lot with my car pulling to the right. Drove right back and told the store manager that the workers hadn't moved my car out of the spot, he said "don't make accusations," I said that's exactly what I was doing since my car hadn't been moved or fixed and I had paid them for that service. He said that they'd "take another look at it" and after few more hours I walked back from my house and drove the car home nice and straight. It's going to be inconvenient not taking my car there anymore.

Then today I got a nail stuck in the tread of one of my tires causing a slow leak, and since I had paid for the hazard warranty that I didn't ask for on my tire sale I figured I should use it, should have been a free fix.
Dropped my car off at 4:06pm and came back at 8:30pm (the car had been promised by 6pm), but once again my car hadn't been moved from the parking space I left it in. I got my keys and asked to speak with the manager, nobody in the store gave two cares about what was going on, the manager I talked to (Adrian Hernandez) claimed to be in charge of the sales floor only and said the mechanic guys were in someone else??s department.

So I have to take my car someplace else tomorrow to have the leaking tire fixed, maybe I??ll find another Pep Boys who might honor their warranty, or maybe I??ll just have to pay Big O Tires on Convoy to fix it. I have no idea if the Big O place is good or not but my friend says good things, I will definitely read some reviews first.

I do not recommend getting your car serviced by Pep Boys store #0978 on Genesee Ave in the 92117 zip code!

I should search the internet before I decided to send in my 98 Ford taurus for a simple smog test as a required procedure before selling it. What a mistake!

The same smog test was performed on my taurus about 8 months ago for registration and it passed easily. Since my car is religiously maintained, I didn??t expect any odds for this test. When pepboy staff told me my car failed with HC and CO emission, and tried very hard to sell me their diagnosis, I simply said no and pulled out my car. I immediately ran another smog test at a different shop and my car passed easily with a result consistent with its previous emission test. Below are the test results from pepboy and the other shop. Just let the fact speaks

      Pepboys's report
      speed HC (PPM) CO (%)
      15 MPH 75 0.50
      25 MPH 138 0.75

      Another garage's report
      Speed HC (PPM) CO (%)
      15 MPH 36 0.24
      25 MPH 28 0.31

Pepboys's reading is two time more than the report from another store!

Now, go figure, pepboys is either not competent enough to do a simple smog test, or intentionally failed my car to sell me unnecessary service. I requested a refund of the test but the service manager refused.

I will never go back to pepboy, not even for parts. Napa, carquest, autozone and many online stores are much better choice than pepboy!

I thought that a well-known repair shop like Pep Boys would be a good place to fix my leaking steering fluid. Unfortunately, I was wrong. After picking up my car and driving 0.25 miles away, my ""check engine"" light came on. Naturally, I immediately drove my vehicle back to Pep Boys at 4441 Genesee Ave to tell them about the problem (what a mistake). With a dumb-founded look they admitted doing absolutely nothing wrong and said the issue was completely coincidental. Then, they presented me with a $90 statement ""offering"" to run an engine diagnostic test. Completely unprofessional AND to top it all off, my steering fluid is still leaking today. Run in the other direction!!!

I thought that a well-known repair shop like Pep Boys would be a good place to fix my leaking steering fluid. Unfortunately, I was wrong. This Pep Boys always hits their deadlines. I've gotten brakes, tuneups and oil changes done there. And even if I think the time the estimate is too short, I come back and it's done!

I would like to say I'm not a sucker for advertising but that just wouldn't be true. I saw the commericals for Pep Boys and I had to go in and see for myself. The sales staff was really helpful in getting my family exactly what we needed for our automobile. They have a large selection of products. The prices were competitive with other stores silimar. Great customer service - nothing better than service with a smile. Plently of parking at this location, and it's easy to find.

I know it sounds like I'm selling out to their advertising, but Pep Boys really is one of the best options when it comes to purchasing parts, equipment, or accessories for one's car. The staff as a whole knows their stuff, and the selection is large enough to satisfy without being overwhelming. The prices are fairly good, and though one may save a dollar or two by going to a Wal*Mart or something, it's often worthwhile to purchase from a store that has actual knowledge of the product they sell.

By way of example, I had an alternator inexplicably die on me a few years back. The warranty was still in effect, and when the part was taken in for a replacement the thing was done with no hassles or problems. More than can be said for most places when it comes to honoring a warranty.

      PROS: Knowledgeable eployees, good selection.
CONS: Slightly more expensive than other retail outlets.
