I had always driven by when it was closed. The vibrant, whimical window displays always made me look. A few years ago, I finally made it in there and bought an inflatable bouncy horse for my nephew that he was totally tickled over. It was so retro and cute that my sister loves to keep it out in the livingroom as "art". Since then, I always try to make it back for a unique gift. It's not cheap though (why would they be?) so be prepared to spend a few bucks.

If you're looking for a fun, modern gift for a friend, relative or child I highly recommend Plastica. I discovered Plastica when trying to find a cool handbag for my sister's birthday. I went all over town trying to find something that I thought my sis would like. When I walked into Plastica I knew I had found it. While they have a fairly limited selection of stuff a lot of it is pretty cool - a combination of local designers and stuff from around the world. In some respects it's not much different than some of the other 3rd St. gift shops. However, I've got to say their selection is probably the most fun of any of them probably because most of the items are made of plastic. Here's a sample product list: Expandable Flower Vases (made out of plastic bags - very cool), Kids Frog Boots, rechargable candle lamps, Harry (you have to see it to get it), fun totes made out of plastic mesh, plastic wallets for people who hate wallets, etc. I ended up getting my sis the Chilewich bag for about $70 which she loves, and the expandable vases for $28. I also picked up a wind up mouse for her cats and a 3D Butterfly postcard for my daughter ($3).

PROS: Plastic
CONS:

Looking for a unique present for someone or something really cool to brighten up your kitchen or a room. THis is the place. Very small store with a really small but cool collection of "plastic" things. Kitchen containers, Dish racks, kids toys, floormats, jewelry, strange odds and ends...ALL plastic. Some collectibles also available throughout store. You will find things here that are nowhere else.
