Don't be distracted by the large puppy living areas and the higher brand products sold here. I bought a puppy here and believing them on were they were from and was sold by their knowledge I bought him. I love him to death but one day I looked up his heritage online and wanted to know more about the breeder they told me was a family friend from Kansas and what did I find, a puppy mill in Kansas and a YouTube. If you are interested on viewing it search youtube for Doherty Family Pets (their supposed family friends and breeder)

This shop not only has acres of stuff for your dog, (or just about anything else you have as a pet) but there are actually people who know what they are doing! They are so helpful, and there are enough of them that you don't just have to figure out everything for yourself.

In late 2006, I was looking to buy a puppy. I have been burned by "backyard" breeders before so I decided to be very cautious when buying. I searched everywhere in LA and OC looking for the right store. I'm no crazy PETA member, but the way some of these stores treat their pets is gross. One store in the South Bay would keep the animals in trash cans while cleaning their cages.

After much searching I found PetCare. I asked around and several people recommended them to me. I stopped by the shop and it is so clean and the staff are friendly. The puppies are on a set schedule of eating, sleeping, and playing.

Once I made the decision to adopt I spoke with a woman there and told her exactly what I wanted - a brown and white female Shih Tzu. The next day she found me an AKC champion litter that met my specifications and sent me pictures of each dog. I picked the one I wanted and she had it brought to me after it was weened from its' mom. The woman from PetCare drove personally to pick the puppy up.

Usually PetCare likes to keep the puppies for at least a week before it goes home, but we wanted ours sent home early so they refunded us for the shots we had to get. Our puppy did have worms, but that is to be expected when buying from a pet store. PetCare refunded everything once I gave them the bill. They called and checked in on us several times to make sure our puppy was fine and that we weren't having any problems.

They sent our puppy home with a free ShihTzu booklet, food, treats, and tons of toys. They also gave us lessons with a trainer and grooming at a discounted price. It cost us somwhere in between $1200-1300, so they are expensive. We also bought accessories, such as the litter box and play cage which costs a bit more.

Our experience with them was fantastic. They aren't the type that make you fill out applications or oblige to home checks. They are people who genuinely care and want to sell perfectly healthy puppies. We absolutely love our ShihTzu.

I've been to a lot of pet stores and I'm generally horrified by them -- big box stores have pretty clueless staff that tell you stuff/recommend products that are sub-par; most small pet stores keep animals in horrible conditions and the shelves are pretty thin.

The PetCare Company has great staff that go the extra mile and the animals are well-cared for as if they were the personal pets of the owners of the store. They have a large selection of merchandise and it's all good stuff. It's also one of the cleanest pet stores I've ever been in.

This store has been in business in Hermosa for YEARS, they have a loyal group of customers who would rather support a family-run store that does it's very best to hire good people, train them extensively, stay on the cutting edge of what's going on in all aspects of pet food/toys/care, carry merchandise that they've personally tested, and put in hours long after the shoppers have left to care for the animals and the store itself.

It's too bad some customers are not as classy -- I've seen people on cellphones yacking away, throw their card at the cashier, and get testy when asked a question. What happened to customers having manners too? I also happened to meet poster hanna -- holy moly -- she was a piece of work! I'm sorry but if you're going to post on this site with your side of the story, someone should post the other side -- and that's just from a fellow customer's point of view. I hope Lewis and Paula will post the whole story, but from what I saw you were totally unreasonable, a ranting shrew, and totally uninformed. I'm sure Lewis and Paula regret that your Puggle has you as a dog mom.

In short, I can't say enough good things about this store. They totally know their stuff when it comes to animals, they want to teach you how to care for your pets, and they always have hard-to-find stuff for petlovers and for pets. There's a good reason they've been around so long!!

I would never buy a dog here again. They are from puppy mills and therefore not healthy. Our puggle puppy had kennel cough for the first 2 months and her lungs are permanently damaged from that. Additionally, they advertise the avid microchip on all their puppies but fail to adequately record the number. Our puppy was stolen and that was when the administrative mistake was caught. The company failed to apologize or respond to our frustration. For the extravegent amount of money you pay for a puppy, you will not get the quality of service or health that you would expect.

i highly suggest going through rover rescue and rescuing a puppy through them. I will NEVER buy another dog through this company or any other pet store.

We just purchased a new puppy.....it is the only store we would ever purchase a pet from, and we went to a lot of stores in the South Bay and West L.A. The quality, cleanliness and fabulous care given to the puppy area is unlike any store we have seen. Puppies are not in cages, but in playpens. They are only given quality food which we are continuing to feed. The owners, Paula and Lewis, truly care about their customers. Staff has been friendly and takes bags directly to my car.

Great location for a Pet Store. Do you know how you're ridiculed when you walk out the door. The employees at Pet Care Co could care less about the customers that walk in this store. I had an incident happen with this store and it came out with comments by several employees, in some pretty strong statements against the community in general (which is their bread & butter); "they can't stand the affluent people {hence 'their' customers} that live in South Bay". It was the most absolutely disgusting behavior, I have ever witnessed, for a business within this community!
