Some appetizers were served cold including pasta with red sauce and lamb chops. Dessert came out the same way. "Lava cake" was promptly unpacked from a cardboard box from the fridge and put on a plate with ice cream without the cake being heated at all. When asked about it the owner said it was supposed to be that way and then left. $60 meal for two entrees and two desserts.

Burlingame is up and coming and my friends and I wanted to check out some the restaurants.. we stumbled into La Scala... the decor was nice, however we were not overly impressed with the quality of food..
3La Scala has great food and a wonderful atmosphere. You feel like you've stepped into Italy and the service is excellent. It's a small restaurant, but it feels cozy. The food was some of the best I've ever tasted. I would highly recommend this place.
4La Scala is not a fancy overpriced gourmet temple.\r
Delicious Italian food at a fair price.\r
That's why we return again and again.

Pros: Good Italian food, no overpriced trendy eatery
Cons: can't think of any
Cafe La Scala is the perfect place to bring a large family or group. I had my 37th Birthday party here and the food was delicious, the service was great and everyone in my party had something tasty! For casual Italian, family style eating

I wouldn't try this place out. It has a pleasant looking exterior, but the food is not worth the wait nor the tight squeeze. As I reflect..I don't know HOW anyone could work in such a small space. If you're along the avenue late and are hungry opt out of this tiny non-hole-in-the-wall-wannabe and go to a franchise like crepevine. I don't even like chains but this place... not recommendable at all.
I got a risotto that was seemingly old and...dare I say, microwaved? Plus, it was too salty.

I used to go to Cafe La Scala for my birthday and friends all the time. And haven't been there for a couple of years. But I just went back recently and was not happy with the service and food. The food was very plain and simple. There
