I started coming here when it was First Watch (which is still a chain in other places around the country). When it changed to First Awakenings - luckily nothing changed - in fact, it may have gotten better.

The pancakes are huge and de-lish - no matter what kind you try - and don't be shy about asking them to combine things. I have had them mix their bluegerm, bananagerm and strawberry wheatgerm pancakes all together - with extra wheat germ and the whipped cream that normally comes on top of the strawberry pancakes on the side. (think Meg Ryan in Harry met Sally). This doesn't annoy them, in fact they welcome it. The waiter commented that he always mixes things up too and said he would be trying my concoction. I really like the blueberry 'syrup' that normally comes with the bluegerm pancakes with whole blueberries in it. You can ask for it even if you don't get the bluegerm pancakes.

I've ordered omelets, eggs Benedict and some of their lunch items and all have been great, but it's hard to not at least get 1 or 2 of the pancakes to split with my dining companion as well.

The service is always friendly and fast. I like how they bring a pitcher of water to the table allowing you to fill your own glasses at will. If they don't automatically, you can ask as it used to be standard.

I can't comment on the indoor decor as I always sit outside. Even when slightly chilly, it somehow adds to the experience.

Go for a walk afterward down to the bay while the pancakes digest to look for the otters and watch the kayakers.

Delicious!! Now that I'm writing this review, I'm gonna go here for breakfast tomorrow morning! I usually get the Turk E. Supreme and it is supreme. The pancakes are very tasty and huge, so be sure to get a short stack. The service is always wonderful and the restaurant is bright and airy. I love it!

This is our favorite restaurant for breakfast in the Monterey area. The prices are good, they cater to young children (which is a plus for our family), and the food is delicious! I always recommend this restaurant to friends who are visiting Monterey.

What can I say; they have created a jewel on the bay. I was in Monterey with my fiancee four days and we found this place on day two. I wish we had another day to try more of the menu. Although we ventured to the Salinas store which was not quite as good as the one on the bay, First Awakenings is one of those "Must Go" places while in the Monterey area. Everything we had was prepared perfectly, extremely delicious and filling. A+ in Pacific Grove, B in Salinas.

Pros: One of the best breakfasts you can get

Cons: Can be busy

This is THE place for breakfast in Monterey.Big portions, coffee thermos and water pitcher left on the table, and very attentive service from the staff. My husband loved the skillet breakfast:country potatoes on the bottom with eggs and ham piled on top, served with an english muffin.Pancakes are the size of the plate, literally. The omelette's are fluffy and delicious. We highly recommend using the Chunky Garlic Pepper Sauce on everything! It's so good we bought 2 bottles to bring home. Pets are welcome to sit out on the patio while dining. We found this place by another online review and were not disappointed. In fact, we had breakfast here three days in a row, trying different things, and each meal was tasty. This will no doubt be our breakfast joint each time we visit Monterey. Prices average between $8-10 and are well worth it. Other reviewers mentioned waiting in line, but we never did.We were there around 10am and were able to get a table outside right away. It's nice to be away from the crowds of Cannery Row as well.

Pros: Great way to start a morning!

Cons: Wish there was one in our neighbourhood

OK, what do you want? Prompt service...you got it. Great presentation...there it is. Lots of food...burp. Reasonable prices...plenty left over for the outlet stores nearby. Variety...all you can think off...and then some. Location...on Cannery Row, near the Aquarium. The only...only...drawbacks are the long waiting lines over the weekends. So go during the work week, when the working stiffs are doing their thing.

The omelets are done to a T, with a large variety to choose from. Freshly squeezed OJ hits the mark. The Eggs Benedicts come in a variety of kinds, but I like the traditional the best. The pancakes are tasty and done just right (i.e., not soggy). I could make a meal out of the home fries. And it's surprising how many times the waitress came to check on us given the overflowing crowds during the weekends.

This place is the creme de la creme of breakfast places...anywhere.

My friends and I visited this place to get a hearty breakfast. And, that is what we got. I ordered the blueberry pancakes. They are served in huge proportions. The stack is fluffy, with the right amount of wheat germ that adds just a hint of crispiness. The blueberries tasted fresh.

The only drawback of this place is the long wait, but it is worth it.

Went here for Breakfast with a few friends and this place rocks!
I ordered a thick waffle and that waffle was made fresh and it was very, very good!
My friends ordered the omlettes and they come with these great home potoates
and they taste great.
This place gets very busy in the morning and you have the option of sitting inside or
out on the patio. Service was great and our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable
and prompt. The only problem we had were the cute little black birds that fly around picking up
table scraps..but all in all, a great place to start the day! If you want a hearty and delicious breakfast..
check this place out.

I went this morning with 6 other family members. We all thought that our food was great. We had the Benedict, Pancakes and Burritos. Everything was delicious. The fruit cup was even good but could have been just a lttle bit bigger. Portions of the entrees were plenty ample. Rachel took care of us. She was very friendly, fun and attentive. We sat outside on their patio by the firepit. First Awakenings is a great way to begin a beautiful day in Monterey.

I had crepes that had cheese and spinach (I think bacon was in there too) with this yummy hollandaise sauce on it - TO DIE FOR. I also really liked the hash browns and the fruit was marvelous. Too bad there's not one in Houston.
