I have been looking for a good gym for a while. Went to YMCA and Spectrum. Didn't like either. Spaces were too small. Tried GVAC and I am very happy. This place is never overcrowded, the spinning class room is so nice and lots of bikes and the people are great. The classes are convenient for working professionals and you gotta love the kids place. Overall, I am very happy with this gym!

I have tried 24 hour fitness and YMCA. I much prefer GVAC. It is local and friendly (kind of like Cheers - everybody knows your name). Great personal trainers. Chris is my favorite. Equipment and facilities are excellent. It is a great value.

The only good aspects of this gym are possibly location and the fact that several of the machines have a TV. There are college kids trying to scam you into a membership, which does not cancel automatically, you must give a 30 day notice or a 200$ fee is tacked on. Don't be fooled by the "athletic trainers" who are simply athletic individuals with little if any education on athletic training and instruction behind their name. The gym is tiny and does not have good air conditioning. They charge for EVERYTHING and there are hidden fees, as well. Be cautious!!!!!! Any other gym in SB would probably be better.

We had considered joining the Goleta Valley Athletic Club at one point and tried it out for about a month not too long ago (while the YMCA was undergoing it's major renovation).

This is a large building with lots of raquetball courts downstairs and upstairs has modern exercise equipment and machines. The locker room needs a little bit of attention, but overall was fine. There is a fairly large lap pool outside in a patio area near a jacuzzi spa.

Overall, a good health and exercise club; it is a popular place especially for residents of Goleta who don't want to drive to downtown Santa Barbara.

Located at the corner of Los Carneros Road and Hollister Ave.

PROS: decent place to get your workout.
CONS: a bit of TLC in certain areas.
