I absolutely love their strawberry cake. It's not too sweet and the cake layers are fluffy and light. Their cookies are quite tasty as well and very cutely decorated!

My husband's family has been coming to Virginia Bakery for generations. Consistently good cakes, cookies and the butter cream tart is to die for!! I have ordered several cakes and have never had an issue.

Cupcakes!

It's your standard bakery. For some weird reason it reminds me of bakery's in LA. Maybe it's the era of the cases inside?
You can buy individual cupcakes. It's like it was someone's birthday in your third grade class all over again. While they aren't as good as the Cupcakery up the street they're A) cheaper and B) more authentic to that store-bought/box cupcake experience. Yes, I am counting this as a definite plus.
Also, if you want any kind of themed sheet cake, this is the place to go. Grocery stores in Berkeley either have weak or non-existent bakery services and gourmet bakeries just won't do a football or Pokemon cake.

Virginia Bakery is a famous landmark in Berkeley. It is one of the few remaining traditional bakeries in the East Bay. Their cakes are popular favorites for birthdays and special occasions including weddings. A popular favorite that quickly sells out is their excellent champagne cake All their cookies and other baked delicacies are also delicious. Friday and Saturday are very busy as the bakery is closed on Sunday. A small parking lot is located behind the bakery.

Good old-fashioned bakery

Virginia Bakery is a nice old-fashioned neighborhood bakery that has been in the same location for a long time. They have a big glass case showcasing their tasty treats, which are very attractive. The cookies are great! Sometimes they offer free samples of the cookies and other items. The cakes are also excellent, but be warned that they come with a thick buttercream frosting that can be a little too rich even for a frosting lover. Also, if you are looking for organics or other crunchy granola stuff like you find elsewhere in the Gourmet Ghetto, you may want to stay away since I'm pretty sure they use all kinds of food coloring and maybe preservatives, like most (non-Berkeley) bakeries. As I said, the place is old-fashioned. And good!!
