Woody Zips is one of the best bars I have been to in San Francisco. A great addition to the North Beach neighborhood. Luke and Keith (bartenders) were nice enough to open the bar up an half hour early so I could watch an obscure Division I-AA football game. Luke was nice enough to wear my team colors. We had great drinks and some amazing chicken noodle soup which was nice since it was one of those very rainy, cold, San Francisco nights. Since moving to the Bay Area two years ago, I am constantly searching for a good sports bar. You know the drill with sports bars, some have good TV's, but bad service, or good food, but poor TV's or inability to get your game. Woody Zips is the perfect sports bar in my opinion. Great flat screen HD TV's, friendly knowledgable bartenders, great food and a great location. I can't wait to go back to Woody Zips.

I was in town vacationing with my parents for four days. Saturday night my parents and I set out to find a sports bar with a college football game day package. We were looking for the Texas A&M vs Oklahoma game. Saying there wasn't a huge amount of interest for that game in the west coast market was an understatement. I called over to Woody Zip's and the guy that answered the phone (Luke) was very accommodating. He promised a screen for the game and our decision was made. We arrived to find a swanky little bar. The plasma TVs were great for watching the game. The bar, artwork and other details created an inviting atmosphere. I ordered a hamburger and was impressed with a delicious meal. Overall, the beer selection, menu and character create a neighborhood speakeasy feel. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and recommend Woody Zip's enthusiastically.

Note: There is no out-of-control sign curbside so do take the address with you to nail the location.

First a bit of history ... Shannon's Sports Bar was a run-down $hithole that I stopped going to years ago. A few months ago at Northstar I met Luke, one of Woody Zips owners. He informed me that he was one of the guys who bought what used to be Sannon's across the street and that I should check it out when they open. I did - and he even remembered my name & bought me a beer. I am amazed at the great job they did in remodeling the place. Everyone I met there was very nice, drink specials were fantastic, decor reminded me kind of a New Orleans lounge (with lots of TV screens for sports fans like myself), and the music was cool. The food exceeded my expectations - home-made corndogs - WOW! & the steak sandwich was great. Keith, the other owner, told me that they are going to start serving tater tots in the near future! I LOVE TATER TOTS! Can't wait, see you guys again real soon!

This is a must see bar, whether a local or a tourist in town for a weekend away. If you want to feel like you're in LA for a night then come to Woody Zips, if you want to feel like you're in SF then come here as well because there has never been a better balance of sports bar and swanky night spot. The owners must have alot of connections in the SF night club scene because this place is stocked like a trout farm with uber-hotties.

Woody Zips is a wonderfully female-friendly sportsbar. It has great food, is totally clean and comfortable, and has the most friendly people working there. I was there with friends who were watching a football game a few weeks ago and had so much fun, I nearly forgot that I had been dragged to a sportsbar. I went back that night and found fabulous music and a totally ecclectic and cool crowd. Guys - good place to bring your girlfriends or meet your next one. Ladies - don't be scared of the sportsbar - you will love it here.

Sometimes when I walk into a bar I feel instantly uncomfortable. Woody Zips made me feel good and ready to have a little fun. It's casual yet still has that city vibe. If you think you can't meet cool people in the city, you're wrong. This place makes the city seem small and friendly. Pretty good eye candy too.

I met my husband here for a drink after work and very soon we wanted to make an evening of it. I was alone at first, and the owner, Luke, immediately made me feel at home - everyone here is treated like a "regular"! The bartender, who formerly worked for Harry Dentons, is a real pro, gamely mixing standard liquor-and-soda orders alongside lychee martinis (which he kindly let us sample). They also have a few harder-to-find craft beers on tap. Homemade tortilla chips with a selection of salsas are terrific, and the menu features everything from steak sandwiches to salads to corn dogs: definitely something for everyone. They had a couple different sports on the four TVs and were happy to take requests. This was definitely one of the most pleasant sports-bar experiences I've had, and the upscale vibe inside makes it a place you can stay post-game and roll right on into the evening. I highly recommend it - for a game, for a date, for a quick drink with friends. Welcome to the neighborhood, Woody Zips.

I have been anxiously waiting for a new bar to open up in my neighborhood that is situated across from the North Star- one of my other favorite haunts. It just opened about two weeks ago (September 2006). The first time I went I was by myself, but the next time I brought a group of friends to watch some college football. You can tell the bar has been completely refurbished (it has that new bar smell or at least no old bar smell) with a large wooden bar and four large flatscreen TVs that feature sports in HD format. You can easily see at least two TVs from anywhere in the bar. The food was great- I like the Garlic Burger and the wings are nice and hot. I was told that they are having a Sunday night Fried Chicken, collard greens, and corn fritters dinner (I am going to try that out next weekend). They had some great beers that I have never tried on tap, and it seems they specialize in Tequila judging by all of the different bottles they have lining their liquor wall. It seems the word is out on this bar as it has been busy whenever I go by on the weekends. The owners (Keith and Luke) were very friendly and have always made a point of saying hello to me and everyone else there.
