Greed is the number one at IDMD. Unfortunately I briefly worked here a while back and saw how things work there, more like I Dig Your Money. Dogs living in kennels for years while owner collects boarding costs from dogs abandon-ers even

I was so glad to find I Dig My Dog-- with a pool! I have a golden retriever and she loves to swim. Once before, with a different golden, she got Kennel Cough despite being up to date with her inoculations. I keep hearing other stories

1 star is actually too high a review. My dog died while getting his nails trimmed here back in 2010. I have tried to forget about it, but I'm reminded of it every time I drive by here on my way to Foothill Veterinary Hospital. I do not

I have been sending my dog to I Dig My Dog for over eight years. I have never had a problem with the staff or other dogs. Lindy (the owner) is the most knowledgeable and caring "dog-person" around. I just picked up my dog after a five day stay and was greeted with a happy, healthy pet. Lindy also spoke to me about a new food system to fit my dog's needs and gave me free samples to try. IDMD is a wonderful environment for your pet.

Dont go here. I wish I had read the reviews before I took my dog here. I have a rottweiler I rescued and has been evaluated by a rottweiler expert and we have taken her to obedience training along with seeing her play with many other dogs she is very submissive. The owner actually told me she was breed prejudice against these dogs and that she didnt feel comfortable with our dog there. I understand wanting to keep other dogs safe from aggressive dogs but my dog is in no way aggressive and just based on her breed she would have to be in private accomadations. This is what you get with uninformed people running businesses.

I used to think that IDMD was my dream come true in terms of dog-boarding facilities, until this last time....

I dropped my dog off for a six-day stay at IDMD, thinking that he was going to have a great time in the pool, playing with other dogs, and hanging out with their friendly staff, but boy was I wrong!!! I arrived at IDMD at the end of my trip, only to be met with terrible news delivered by an EXTREMELY rude receptionist. My dog had gotten into a fight with another dog within hours of dropping him off the first day. I was horrified by the news, because my dog had never had a problem like this with any other dog. Not only that, but the IDMD staff NEVER called me, left a voicemail, called my alternate phone number or anything to inform me of what had happened!!!!!!! I was on a trip just a few hours away by car, and would have gone to pick him up had I known!

Furthermore, I was charged (A LOT) extra to keep him in a private "suite" away from other dogs. Of course, this is what they needed to do to keep all of the dogs safe, but again, I was not told that they were going to do this and charge me for it. Also, their "professional" notes were very vague, and I got a very defensive response from the receptionist when I questioned the circumstances of the fight my dog had had. Did he get into a fight with an uncut pitbull who had never boarded there before, or a lazy golden retriever who goes there for daycare every day? Who knows?

To top things off, I called IDMD on the third day of my trip to see if I could pick my dog up early, and was not notified at that time that anything had happened with my dog and that he was put in a private pen. Also, these private "suites" that they charge extra for are not air conditioned or heated, and are basically very expensive little prison cells for you dog who will not get any exercise if placed in one!!!!!

Be VERY cautious if you even consider boarding your dog there. Most of their staff is very friendly, but they are not qualified to look after the number of dogs they accept there, and their reception desk clearly cannot handle the volume either!!! I will NEVER take my dog back there, and please do not let the same thing happen to your dog!!!

A month ago I would have given the most enthusiastic 5 stars. Last week I would have given an equally enthusiastic 1 star. Now, it's 3, and that is where it will stay.

After a recent bad experience, one of I Dig My Dog's sincere and polite employees called and left me a detailed message apologizing for anything they did wrong, and answering all of the questions that I highlighted in my original review (which is still posted below). Her message was enough to keep me as a customer, if a reluctant one. She even left her private number in case I had any questions. That was most unexpected, and appreciated.

Below is what I originally wrote, which should still be taken into account:

"I cannot say how much it bothers me to have to write this review, because I loved this place. I have boarded my dogs with I Dig My Dog before, and was amazed at the care and attention they offered. Upon coming home, my dogs were so tired from playing it was actually difficult to get them to go on a walk!

Unfortunately, a recent experience I had with them soiled any good feelings I had once harbored. I was boarding my dog for 6 days, mostly because he loves the pool so much. He is a lab after all! When I returned to pick him up, I was informed that he had gotten into a fight within 1 hour of showing up on the first day, and had been placed in a private room. The fight was serious enough to keep him quarantined for the remainder of the 6 days. I will be the first to acknowledge that separating him was appropriate. I do not want any dead or hurt dogs on my hands. But, I Dig My Dog did not call me, as the receptionist had claimed was standard practice. I was on vacation within driving distance, and could have come picked him up and taken him away so that he wouldn't have to lay alone with no exercise in a 90 degree cement block. I could have saved him the boredom and discomfort, as well as saved myself several hundred dollars, had they been kind and professional enough to call me.

Most troubling was the receptionist's tone and attitude. It is truly rare to meet a customer service professional that is so, well, unprofessional and downright rude. I was dismayed, especially considering that until this incident all of the other staff had been so kind. She had a set of notes about the incident, and I questioned her on them, because this is the first time my dog has ever displayed such aggression, and it would be nice to know what caused it, if anything. But, there are too many dogs with too few guardians to keep tabs, and the important details were left out. All that was said was that my dog bit another dog. That's it. Nothing about the situation. Nothing about the other dogs. For all I know, my dog was being picked on by an aggressive newcomer. Perhaps he just attacked a lazy saint bernard. I have no way of gauging anything. My dog had passed his behavior exam with flying colors and spent some nights there with nothing but running and swimming in his notes. With only the paltry info the receptionist rudely gave me, what am I supposed to do to help modify my dog's behavior? And why be so condescending in telling me all this? I did not defend my dog's behavior, but I did want to know what happened so that I could help him work on it. The receptionist blew me off in a manner uncharacteristic of their staff.

I must add - I had called on day 4 of my trip to say I would be picking up my dogs a day early. There was no mention of anything at that point, no inkling that anything had been wrong. My dog had displayed violent behavior and was rightly set aside to protect the other animals. This, apparently, was not important enough to mention, but important enough to charge me for."

Pros: it's nice for the dogs to swim

Cons: poor customer service

The thing about the folks who run "I Dig my Dog" is that they truly love dogs of all shapes and sizes. They also treat your dog like a "dog" not a child, thank goodness, and have a sense of humor about the frustrating things dogs sometimes do. They seem adept at managing the packs safely around the various areas of the center. Their techniques for correction also appear to be gentle and effective (like using spray bottles). One of the managers I see often at the Alice's dog park training her pup and when my dog sees her he charges over to her like she's his best pal. He trusts her which is more than I can say for other day cares we have tried. I admit that it is still a doggy daycare - your dog will get A LOT of play an not nearly the personal attention you would give him at home. That is the nature of group care and I believe the staff really does the best they can. However, for $30/day, it's not really fair to ask them to be vets as well as handlers or to give your dog special attention. If your dog needs that, he should be home with a dog sitter, not at a doggy day care. I recommend this place over others because of their gently correction methods, sense of humor about dog behaviour, solid screening method for aggressive dogs and great pool!! If your dog is your "baby" then a nanny might be better, but for dog lovers, check out I DIG MY DOG!

I am shocked at the review written titled Beware. I am a former employee of I Dig My Dog and coming from an "insiders" point of view the negative allegations are false. The staff is more than loving and the management team keeps things efficient, clean, safe and fun. Why would the owner sabotage her own business and not make sure every dog leaving doesn't go home happy and healthy? As a business owner you would want clients to come back from being happy and refer you new clients.

There was never a case of kennel cough while I was there. Dogs do get sore paws from playing, however, the staff is trained to be on top of it and the dogs rest often. The Private Suites are indoor and are controlled.

While I no longer work there, I do recommend them highly. I would board my dogs there anytime. The facility is amazing. HUGE, pool, large outdoor areas and large indoor areas. They really can take care of ANY dog!

I Dig My Dog has two very different faces. The yard staff truly love the dogs. On the other hand it is run by managers and an owner who are overrun with greed. My dog has come home several times with sore paws, having lost too much weight, kennel cough, and eye infections. At first I wanted to blame the people watching my dogs but the more I paid attention the more I realized that they are doing their best but because of a greedy owner who under staffs and over books the facility their efforts are in vain. The people in the yards working love and care for the dogs but the upper managment and owner are all about the money. My dogs have needed to see the vet after stays several times and I blame it on over crowding and not enough staff. The owner and general manager will refuse any responsibility and give you attitude refusing to help with vet bills at any time.

The private suites that they rent for more money than the community boarding are not air conditioned or heated which means your beloved pet like mine will be in 90 degree heat in the summer or 40 degree cold in winter sleeping on cement floors in the back of the facility. Needless to say the word suite is a little misleading. You will pay a ridiculous price for your dog to suffer terrible temperatures either high or low depending on the time of year.

Once again I personally know many of the staff members and I know they love our dogs and do their best but as long as greed at the top prevails this facility should be avoided. They will overlook health issues to save the money of taking a dog to the vet and force staff members who lack the training to take care of health issues. Don't let the facade fool you, I Dig MY Dog is all about the money.

I have been using I dig my dog for over 2 years. I'm so happy and feel so lucky to have found them. I call to check in and they give me an honest, detailed report. I can tell because I have one dog that will adjust to anything while the other one is on the nervous side. They tell me one is swimming and playing while the other is hanging out with her favorite staff members. I am the paranoid kind but I always feel confident leaving my dogs here. I move around a lot and have been to many different dog facilities. I dig my dog has it down. It's clean, has a great staff, and my dogs seem to really enjoy the experience.

I am really shocked to read some of these reviews. I have two dogs that I bring in at least twice a week and I have been doing that for more than a year since I moved to Pasadena. My dogs can't wait to get inside and I love the grooming services too. The staff is super knowledgeable and I get a more thorough report of my dogs' activiities than I used to get for my children when they were young.
Before I moved to Pasadena I tried several facilities in LA and none compare to the care and facilities of I Dig My Dog. Check around and you will be back.

I've been a client for a few months and I love it. My dog has a great time and comes home happy and tired.
I was surprised to see negative feedback here but I guess it comes with the territory. I will say that my dog did get sore paws but the staff let me know and told me what to do about it. They were very caring and even called to check on her. So far I am very happy with I dig my dog.

I took my dog there because they had a swimming pool. After several trips there, my dog was reluctant to go in and I had to drag her. I thought she was being difficult. One day when I picked her up from I Dig My Dog, she had a big wound on her upper lip. It looks like some dog had bitten her so hard that it ripped the fur off. The staff didnt mention anything to me when I picked her up. That incident happened 3 months ago and the scar is still visible and the fur has not grown back. I have not taken my dog back since that day and will never take her there again. The problem with I DIG MY DOG is that is that they do not have enough space to accomodate the dogs they look after, nor is there activities for the dogs to do. The bottom line is this is not a good place to take your dog.

To followup on the last review, I Dig My Dog has had many incidents like the one described and at least one dog has died as a result of being there. I used to buy my dog food there and everytime there would be lots of dogs outside but only one staff member - then there would be 4 or 5 people inside at the front desk chitchatting. I wouldn't trust this place if it was the last daycare on earth. I take my dogs to Hounds Lounge on Fulton (off Colorado near Rosemead).

I Dig My Dog can be good when nothing goes wrong. The more I speak with other dog owners, the more I hear negative things about I Dig My Dog. If you ever have a question or concern, the staff gets defensive and rude. We picked up our dog after a few hours of day boarding and he was limping with a bloddy paw. The staff was unresponsive and would not work with us at all to resolve the issue. I would not risk taking your dog here because if anything would go wrong, you will not be helped. Look elsewhere for your boarding and grooming needs.

I Dig My Dog is the coolest place to take your dog. The staff is terrific, the facility is clean, and they have a bone shaped pool. The dogs are having a blast. My Lab can't wait to get in and start his day of fun. I highly recommend I dig my dog.

My dogs love I Dig My Dog. They come a couple of days a week to play, and they sleep so well when they come home! The staff is knowledgeable and attentive, and they take great care of my babies. They also have boarded when we go on vacation, and at the end of the stay my dogs don't want to come home. We also buy our dog food and treats there- the change in diet to the high quality foods that I Dig My Dog offers has made their coats beautiful. I highly recommend I Dig My Dog.

My Dogs and I Love I dig my dog. The Staff is awesome and clearly love and care for dogs.
I've been to several other places in Pasadena and Los Angeles and no other place compares. Not only is it the coolest place around (bone shaped pool that the dogs can actually swim in) but they know how to handle my slightly rambunctious Boxer mix and leave me worry free when I go on vacation.
I love the store too. They have the best quality food and a cool selection of toys, collars, and leashes.
I'll never go anywhere else.

Pros: Huge, Bone shaped pool, great staff, open sunday.

Cons: none.

After stopping by 2 months in advance of the holidays to check out this place and having our dog's temperament evaluated for boarding, we made a reservation for 10 days of Christmas vacation. Calling to confirm just a couple days before departure, we were shocked to learn that our reservation was "lost" (and the facility was full over the holidays). Fortunately, we were bumped to the top of the waiting list, and the facility was able to renew the reservation within a couple of hours of the snafu. Despite the initial stress of the fumble, we were pleased that the problem was fixed so rapidly.

As for the level of care, we have been very happy with IDigMyDog. Our dog came back a little thinner (from his high level of activity with the other dogs), but happy and healthy with no change in his behavior at home. This is a far cry from his experience with the classical boarding kennel we used last year (he was anxious and started destructive chewing after his stay there). Since our dog is a shelter rescue, he is much happier with the cage-free environment and high level of attention given at IDigMyDog. This facility was recommended to us by our vet in La Crescenta who uses it for his own dogs. If your dog is comfortable around other dogs (the evaluation and a test daycare stay will tell you for sure), I highly recommend IDigMyDog. Do confirm that your reservations are properly recorded well in advance of your dog's stay.

Please do not let the bone-shaped pool and friendly facade fool you.

I took my dog to I Dig My Dog after hearing good things about them from some people at the dog park. The first couple of times I took my dog there for day boarding, he came back tired and his paws seemed a bit sore but otherwise seemed OK.

I took my dog back there a third time and mentioned to the staff to please keep an eye on my dog as his paws are sensitive and he may need to be given a break from all the playing and running. They said it was no problem and they would take care of him.

When I came to pick my dog up, he was standing at the fence holding up one of his paws. I ran inside and asked why my dog was left outside when he was obviously limping and injured. The attendants had not noticed his injury and had done nothing about it. I had the attendants examine his blistered and raw feet before we left and they said he would be fine he must have just "played too hard".

I took my dog to the vet immediately who wrote me a letter to submit to I Dig My Dog that he received his injury at their facility and that he should have been taken out of the general dog population as he was obviously injured.

I contacted several people (including the owner) at I Dig My Dog regarding this situation and the owner was extremely rude. She said she was not responsible (regardless of the forewarning I gave the facility) and would not even consider helping with the vet bills- even after getting the letter from he vet. The owner could not have been more callous, mean or uncaring. My dog has since recovered but I cannot believe how my dog and I were treated.

The long and short of it is that you are taking your dog to I Dig My Dog you are doing so at your own (or should I say at your dog's) risk. If anything were to happen to your dog here (illness, injury, etc.) you will not be cared for at all. For claiming to care deeply about dogs and their owners, their actions are quite contradictory.

Please find another place to board your dog. Do not leave your dog in the hand of a place as uncaring as I Dig My Dog. You won't be able to find out how they'll treat you if anything goes wrong until it is too late.
