I have been taking my car to have it serviced by Dave Frost for five years or more. Dave is not just honest, he is the best mechanic that I have ever let work on my car. I have a 1996 Toyota Avalon and everyone is always amazed at how well my car runs.

Dave Frost is the owner and an honest mechanic. His rates are quite reasonable, far less than dealers. His crew are quite good at mechanical work such as rebuilding parts, installs and maintenance. They aren't quite as expert in electrical repairs, and there are a few things he won't work on (sunroofs, for example) because their inherent unreliability could reflect badly on his shop if further repairs were needed. However, he is scrupulously fair and up-front, which is fantastic in a repair shop.
The only negative aspect of this shop is that they are usually too busy to take new customers on short notice. Be prepared to wait several days during busy periods before being able to make an appointment. Dave won't take you for a ride.

I just got my car back today from Dave Frost Automotive. He got it back to me when promised and charged me exactly what he said that he would, which was $700.00 less than what the dealer "estimated" for the same repair. My car is a 2000 GMC Jimmy and had a bad heater coil, which meant the entire dashboard had to be removed to accomplish the repair.Everything is right back where it should be and my Jimmy is back in fine shape. I also had him take care of a few other miscellaneous items that had been bugging me (including a loose mirror) and had him rotate the tires and change the oil. Do not waste money by going to the dealer for the same repair that a reputable mechanic like Dave can do. Dave is GREAT! Trustworthy, competant and wonderful to deal with, sometimes he gets busy and you may have to wait a couple of days-do yourself a favor and wait. He's worth it.

After reading the reviews on insider pages I decided to give Dave Frost a try. I had taken my Audi A4 in to the dealer for some Warranty repairs and they had recommended an expensive repair to my non functioning air condition system. Dave Frost inspected the vehicle and had it repaired that same day! I was impressed with his knowledge of this Aircondition system. I would definently recommend him for repairs as he is courteous, experienced and just downright friendly. The A/C has been working great thank god as the weather is really heating up.

Nothing but good things to say about my experience with Dave Frost. I was very pleased with his work he did on my Audi! I hate going to repair shops and then getting hammered with a long list of repairs I know I dont need, That was not the case with Dave Frost. I know I will go back to him in the future and I will recommend friends and family.

I will defininetly go back,Dave Frost is a Master Technician. They fixed my car (replaced water pump and Timing belt) ahead of schedule, under the estimate and saved me $170.00 compared to what the dealer wanted to charge me! They even replaced a turn signal bulb for me FREEE! These guys are great. I highly recommed them!

Didn't check coolant when checking car

Took car in for a oil change and ask to check car before a long trip. Got the car back and Dave said it is in great shape. Before leaving saw coolant looked low, but thought Dave Frost Auto know's best it was my wife's car and wasn't used to checking coolant on her car. The car ended up over heating and a bunch of things got fried. Costing a lot of money and being far from home I had to rent a car to drive home while car was getting fixed.

Excellent Mechanic! Great shop!

I was recommended to Dave Frost Auto by a Friend that has used him for many years. I called him and made an appointment to have my car checked as I was hearing some unusual knocking noises and turning up my music until now had not made it go away or cured the problem. (I was hoping). When I arrived at D.F.A. I could see the shop was pretty busy, but Dave greeted me quickly and he went for a test drive with me, he felt it important that he hear the noise with me. We drove around the area and I pointed out the noise to him as we drove. I ended up having to leave the car as he informed me a further inspection on the lift was necessary! He told me I would get a call before 11am with an estimate for the repairs and an explanation of what was wrong. Sure enough I got a call at 10:30 am just like he said. Bad sway bar links was the diagnosis. He said it was going to cost $120.00 total and it would be ready at 4:00pm. Well guess what. At 3 pm it was ready and it cost $118.00. I love it, faster and cheaper. The car works great now I cant hear any noises, although I sort of miss the clunk clunk clunk. Dave Frost Automotive is great and I will certainly go back and I highly recommend them if you want straight talk, no run around and things explained to you in terms you can understand. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Old fashioned service

We drove our Daewoo Leganza to LA to leave it with our in-college son. We had done our due diligence and had the car gone through eo ensure that it was in good mechanical shape. Unfortunately, the shop we took it to at home wasn't able to get new parking brakes installed in time (the car had been dealership maintained, but Daewoo dealerships are now extinct). They never really gave us a good explanation for this; nevertheless, since we were on a timeline, we took off for LA.
So, we used CitySearch to find Dave. Dave made a complete assessment and spent time shopping for new parking brake shoes. Unfortunately, because Daewoos are themselves nearly extinct, brake shoes are hard to acquire and even then, quite expensive. So, we chose not to replace them at that time (I'm shopping for a reasonably priced set). Dave was not only professional he reminded me of days growing up in the 60's when businesses would deliver great service for little or no cost. In this case, even though Dave had spent significant time on our car, he didn't charge us a cent.
Our son will be servicing this car with Dave when needed. It's also peace of mind for us to know that he has someone like Dave to take the car to.

You'll never go to another mechanic!

I had a fantastic mechanic for a number of years in the Valley who was honest and trustworthy. When he told me he was relocating his business to Napa Valley, I began to worry about finding another shop that would provide the same high quality, honest service as I had grown accustomed too. Well I found one!!
Pulling into the shop, I realized why an appointment was necessary. The shop had two bays and parking was very limited. I was quickly greeted and was brought in to see Dave Frost. He was very personable for a mechanic, which is rare, and stated he would look over the vehicle and phone me by noon. Honestly, I was expecting a call about 4 because what mechanic call back when he says he will. Well, Dave does! He called me early actually and was very clear on explaining the problem. He also made several suggestions and wasn't pushy about it. He explained all of the costs involved and provided some options as well. I agreed to all the work and felt comfortable with my decision.
A day later I dropped off my rental car at Enterprise about 2 miles away. The associate who was dropping me off said many customers use Dave and many of them we see as repeat customers - so he's doing something right. When I picked up my truck, he was extremely thorough in explaining what was done, and actually showed me the worn/damaged parts. As I drove out of the shop, I felt good about my purchase...and the truck is working GREAT!!
I will use DAVE FROST again, and I have told all my friends about the shop.

DAVE FROST AUTOMOTIVE is the best kept secret in Los Angeles! Even before he opened his shop in Culver City, he took care of my ailing Porsche 928. Thank goodness I sold that piece of junk and took his advice and bought a car that didn't need the kind of service that the 928 required. If you want a truly honest car care professional that will take the time to explain the in?s and out?s of fixing your car, Dave Frost is your man. It?s a small shop run by a man with exceptional integrity and honesty which is a rare thing in the auto repair business. Unfortunately, I moved to San Antonio Texas and have not found anyone that can compare to Dave. Thru the years, I now consider Dave a friend and I am very careful about choosing my friends.

A truly honest and experienced shop!

I went to Frost Automotive after a co worker had recommended the shop to me. I felt even better after reading all of nice reviews on City Search. I had taken my Toyota Corolla to a local dealer for an oil change and a check up. I walked out with a list of 2000 dollars worth of repairs. I really felt like I needed a second opinion. I booked an appt. with Frost Automotive and took my car in with my list. They checked the car and found out that nearly half of the repairs that were recommended were really not needed. I am very happy Dave took the time to explain why some of the repairs were needed and some of the repairs were just another way for these large dealerships to line their pockets with the hard earned money of a working stiff! I got the feeling he really cared and I am glad I can count on an honest shop for my future car needs.

Honest, Prompt and Friendly!!

I moved here from a small town up North and found myself in a bind...how you find a GOOD mechanic in Los Angeles?? There's no word-of-mouth like a small town relies on. My boyfriend had a good experience with Dave, so I gave it a shot. He was so friendly and professional! He talked me through every step before he did it, told me what I needed, and what I DIDN'T. He even threw in some extras (ie: he noticed my blinker light was out and did it for free). I also referred a co-worker who had been to a bunch of crummy mechanics and he ended up saving her a couple hundred dollars less than anyone else! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Dave Frost Automotive is everything I thought it would be - I took my car there after reading the reviews on this website, and everything about DFA was correct. He did a great job on my car, and the price was very reasonable. He really took the time to do a thorough job, and he totally knows what he is doing. I will never take my car anywhere else again!

I can't say enough good things about my experience at Dave Frost Automotive. I was experiencing significant coolant leakage with my vehicle. I called Dave after reading the many good reviews on city search. He was really friendly on the phone and told me I could bring it right over (even though it was already late in the day). He promised to call with a diagnosis first thing in the morning. He called back with an estimate of the cost and when it would be ready. He called me exactly when he said it would be ready and the cost was exactly what he estimated. He took extra time to give the car a good once over, but didn't try to upsell me with any needless repairs. It is so hard to find a mechanic that you can trust, but I am telling all of my friends to go to Dave. Thanks!

Hidden Gem in West LA

Dave has worked on 3 cars for us & I highly recommend him for his expertise, his honesty, his professionalism and his customer service. In my 45 years of driving, I've only come across a few good guys like Dave who are very good at what they do, take pride in their work and can be trusted. Plus he's a great family man with values & his wonderful wife can also be seen helping out at the shop. We need more businessmen like Dave.

Great no nonsense place to get car repairs

I brought my car to Dave Frost Automotive to get some repairs done based on the review I had read. I will have to agree with the other reviewer. Very nice people did an excellent job! Explained everything and even showed me all the old parts and explained the way they worked and why they needed replacement! And on top of all that cost me less than I thought it would. Yeah A+++

This Shop is a true find Thanks CitySearch! Dave Frost and his crew are the best. My car was repaired two hours earlier than scheduled, they replaced my water pump, thermostat and changed my oil, $120.00 less than what the Dealer quoted me! And Dave also rotated my tires and changed a brake bulb for free. I am very pleased and will definently be back. Small shop with a personal touch, I felt my car was in good hands as soon as I met Dave Frost and it was!
