In Short
Boomerangs, Aussie flags, kangaroo portraits and faux aboriginal art honor the homeland's wilderness, but Outback delivers a polished version of rusticity with varnished blond-wood booths with matching wainscoting and casually uniformed waitstaff. Besides more than a half-dozen cuts of steak, diners can pick from large-portioned entrees like ribs, chops and shrimp or chicken "on the barbie." The Bloomin' Onion, a large onion dipped in batter and deep-fried, is an appetizer with a following.

Key Points

  • Award-winning steaks.

Ratings_icons Great Food

If your in the mood for a great steak, with plenty of sides to fill you up like a baked potato, vegetables, and cheesebread, outback is the place for you! They also have Seafood, Chicken, Pasta dishes and plenty of sides and appetizer's to fill you up! The menu is huge and the food is great and they even have a childrens menu for the little ones. Save room for dessert because the chocolate thunder from down under is awesome!

Ratings_icons Steak House Blunders!

Me and My wife attended this so called BestSteak House in Norwalk. The food was horrible the service stuck like blue cheese and the management had no control of the restaurant. I have to disagree with this rating. those are my thoughts.

Steak Guy!

Ratings_icons Best Steakhouse... Hands Down

bobbypjam

I don't have the money to go to Ruth's Chris or something comparable, so for my money, Outback is by far the best. The wait staff is always extremely charming and friendly. The food is fresh, never frozen, and they make everything fresh in the store (Dressings, sauces, even the butter and whipped cream!!)

I don't mean to sound like an ad for the restaurant, but I have been a loyal customer since 1996, which is when the local one opened up. I love it!

Pros: fresh food, great service, laid back atmosphere

Cons: small waiting area

I had the filet mignon with melted bleu cheese on top and the garlic mashed potatoes. It was delicious. My fiance had the 12 oz prime rib and 1/2 lb of crab legs. His cut of prime was perfect!

They used to be a great vaule steak house. Good quality steaks. however, about 1 1/2 years ago, maybe they switch owner or meat provider, it totally went down hill, even the overseas chain went along with it. Strong NOT recommended

You can be out for <$20 each, but you get what you pay for, and definitely should not be on the top 10 list of any major city especially LA

Pros: Inexpensive, CHAIN

Just another chain with a different fluff, herd em in and herd em out. Same frozen food that is delivered to every other restaurant in town.

It's amazing that this restuarant made this list. The'yre good, but not deserving to be on any exclusive list. They are a chain afterall. It's not a putdown, but a reality. They make an above average steak.

Ratings_icons Outback Just Formula Chain Restaurant

bfrash

Outback is definitely not a top 10 LA steakhouse. It is a formula restaurant that does especially well in smaller cities with less overall restaurant competition. But to claim it is in the same category as Ruth C, Palm, Flemmings (Manhattan Beach), Morton's, Max's......is ludicrous. Outback competes with Black Angus, Applebees, and TGIF.

Pros: not expensive

Cons: loud, quality of meat varie, crowded

Ratings_icons Too Much Seasoning

gensd

The last time I went to Outback Steakhouse, I could barely find my steak beneath the layers of seasoning that they put on it. It wasn't cooked to my order, and definitely wasn't a "melt in your mouth" experience...

Pros: Mostly Inexpensive

Cons: Over-seasoned, Med Quality Meat

I have been to several places for steaks and this place has it down. Their food is prepared just as you ordered it with prompt service and festive atmosphere.

Ratings_icons Too Close???

Egriffith

My husband's birthday was on a Monday. He indicated that he wanted a steak and his exact words were "a good steak". We had previously discussed going to Outback's for New Years Eve, but yours truly was sick. So I decided to take him for his birthday. Unlike the other reviews I read, we received immediate seating, a friendly waiter (he sat down at the table next to my husband and explained each and every dish we thought about ordering). Afterwards, my husband indicated that he sat just a little "too close", but it was better than him sitting next to his woman. :-)

We ordered, however, was only able to get through the garden salad and bread and shrimp appetizers! We thoroughly enjoyed what we ate.

Pros: Good food, Large portions, Fresh vegetables

Greasy slimmy food that does not deserve to be called Aussie. It is a cheap American attempt to capitalize on the good natured Aussie friendship.

Every time I have eaten at a Outback the food and service have been so bad. I will never go back to one again. I have tried them in all parts of the country and they are all the same.

We've eated at Outback's throughout the United States. They all have great food and generally good service - you get the occasional overworked waiter everywhere. The quality of meat and portions is worth the price.

A great casual place to eat but far from deserving when compiling a top 10 list. A quality steak should be USDA Prime not USDA select.

I can't believe Outback is in the top ten. Arnie Morton's and Ruth's Chris is so much better than Outback.

Ratings_icons TOO TRITE

ms_understood

I think that the Outback Steakhouse is an overpriced, under value steakhouse. The meat is not choice, nor is it that good in quality and taste. The food is way over priced and not cooked the way a true steak should be cooked. They take so much pride in they WAY they prepare a steak but not in how long it's cooked. They need to re-evaluate their cooking times and watch the flames better. The secret to a good steak is RO-TA-TION

Pros: TRENDY

Cons: EXPENSIVE

Ratings_icons buyer beware

charliebob

Outbacks are ok but in our opinion they don't deserve a place on the top 10 best steak list. Maybe top 10 "blackened" list because every single piece of meat served at Outbacks is prepared blackened. I have had many discussions with their personnel over this and have suggested that they should warn customers of this fact....they still don't so when and if we dine there I specifically order "sans blackened."

Pros: convenient

Cons: over priced

gstep83

My first dining experience was not pleasurable at all. My steak was tough, I had asked for it Medium. It had no flavor. I thought that I'd give it another try. Same thing, uneventful. When I saw that it made top 10 it should be for the top ten places not to go to.

Ratings_icons The Smoke House is better

jt9829

Outback is good for a franchise, but the Smoke House in Burbank is the best by far. It cannot be half bad when all of the studio big shots come accross the street for a bite after a long day.

Pros: good appetizer

Cons: Bad parking, little value

Outback has a great environment to go along with its Aussie style. You would never know you were actually in the U.S. when entering the steakhouse. The food is delicious and served at a great price. You can't beat their value and great taste!!!!!

Ratings_icons Grizzle and fat syeaks, YUMMY!

tangojay

The outback in San Bernandino has to be THE WORSE steak house I've been to! Steaks were full of grizzle, fat, easy 1/3 was disposed off, the "blooming garbage", was cold, sauce salty. The drinks were watered down, so, if you want to ruin an anniversary like I did, take your mate to this dump!

I WENT TO THE OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE IN THE S.F VALLEY WITH MY GIRLFRIEND RECENTLY AND IT WAS ABSOLUTELY THE WORST STEAKHOUSE THAT WE HAVE EVER BEEN TO. THE SERVICE WAS JUST DESCENT AND THE FOOD WAS JUST O.K.

Pros: Good parking

Cons: awful appetizers, Poor service, medium Quality

Ratings_icons The Top 10? - You're Kidding

eisbymg

I've tried this chain a half dozen times. The food & service are OK (for a coffee shop) at best. The meat is processed beyond belief and those cutesy Aussie names don't make up for the lack of taste. I have no idea how this made the top of anything unless your readers are comparing it to the Sizzler.

Ratings_icons $12 Steak, $2 Beers YES!

dollardave

I have never had money to spend on trendy overpriced locations regardless of their reputations.
OUTBACK meals are certainly sufficient, those Beers are huge, and the atmosphere is always kind and expedient. Prices are LOW by what else I've experianced, I"VE NEVER HAD A BAD ENCOUNTER.
I sugest early happy hour arrival for quick seating as most location ALWAYS fill up quickly, particularly any normal holiday or ocasion, and the dinner hour.

Pros: attractive, clean, well staffed, quick, most areas, convinient

Cons: easy acsess, crowded, peak hour waiting, walk up resv only

We have not had a bad experience at Outback. We're very picky about steak, but have only had to send it back once in all the times we've visited. The food is always fresh and cooked to order. Perhaps the reviewers who posted a bad review had a bad experience, but we've never had one. And we go frequently.

Ratings_icons Terrible!

I agree with robotan the last poster. This place is awful. I asked for it medium rare, so I expected medium at most. It was practically past well done. It tasted awful! They call this a steakhouse? They should call it a suckhouse. Nothing there would make me go back. Unless I had to use the bathroom.

Pros: they had restrooms, they were open

Cons: awful food, awful service

Ratings_icons the worst steak

robotan

I went there only once and would never go there again. The steak was as chewy as a tire, and it was tasteless. Most of the servers were like college kids, thus irresponsible and untrustworthy.

A good steak house would serve steaks rare if the customer requests. Outback couldn't serve it rare when I ordered, I think that means their meat is not fresh enough to serve it rare.

Pros: kids friendly

Cons: Bad Service, Awful Food

Best sirloin steaks in the world! Fine steak accompanied by a fresh garden salad and excellent salt-rubbed Russet baked potato.

Pros: Great sirloin steak, excellent value, good side dishes

Cons: No reservations, lackluster bread

Ratings_icons "Big dollars, little food"

alhjr55

You know, it's a wonder what some people consider giant portions and good value. The ones that say that about this place must be confused with somewhere else. Really, what they need is smaller plates to make the meal look larger. Also why would anyone want to eat a steak that is basically fried on a flat grill as opposed to one that has been mesquite grilled or charbroiled to perfection as a good steakhouse would do? Talk about sprinkling a boat load of seasonings on a piece of meat to give it flavor. That's what they do instead. $80 to feed a family of 3? Forget it, I'll BBQ good steaks at home for a fraction of the price.

Pros: Ausie Theme, Trendy

Cons: Price to food ratio, Too crowded, Mediocre food
