5 Stars: Wowie, amazing (by leahg11)

i read all sorts of reviews, and saw a lot of mixed opinions.... still, i was determined to try this restaurant.... well can i say, WOW!!!, it totally surpassed anything that i was expecting! the atmosphere is so pretty (get the patio!), the service was the best in LA(waiters are not stuffy or pretentious, can be really formal, or super chill, very good at reading the table and what you want), and the food was delish! i would love more wines by the glass, but the 1/2 bottle option kinda forced us to have that extra glass, that actually ends up making the last part of dinner that much more fun, ha.
i will SO be back here, this is exactly what you want when you are craving a really warm, rich experience. loved it!!

1 Stars: Ruined our Valentine's Day (by fdlvr09)

My husband took me to this restaurant for our First Valentine's Day as newly weds, we were so excited. The ambiance was nice. The menu, we were expecting to have a wide variety of choices, as they showed in their webpage, sadly when we show up, they gave us sort of special menu with only a few choices.

The Food: There was a baby lobster, that actually looked more like a shrimp, because of its size. They served a very simple and expensive pasta, I guess it was just to fill the space in our stomach. The mushroom was under cook. We were expecting a lot more for what we paid (almost $300)

The service was very rushed, it seems that they wanted to get rid of us, to fill another table.

Advice, if you go for Valentine's be prepare to pay a lot for little.

This was the worst Valentine's day Memory, that I'm trying to forget.

4 Stars: Romantic as romantic gets (by msdukeblue)

My date took me to Il Cielo. Props for picking such a incredible place. Absolutely beautiful! Unfortunately, my date's appeal ended in picking great spots. :)
What's not to like? Great food, to die for patio and perfect drinks.
Now I just need another date.

1 Stars: Romantic atmosphere but not much else (by Michelle17230)

My fiance and I were looking to have dinner in the area since we were in LA getting our wedding bands. I looked online for a nice Italian restaurant to try out since we were there for the evening. This restaurant had a beautiful garden atmosphere! However, our service and everything else about the experience were just awful which ruined the experience. I ordered a glass of white wine- pino grigio that came out to $12 dollars. We both ordered our own entrees and shared a salad. When we got the bill there was a charge that we split a salad even though we ordered our own entrees which was so ridicoulus! We both ate light and the bill came out to $100. Our service there was very poor. Our reservations were at 7:30 and we didnt get out food till way after 9 (we waited forever for the food there) and we finished our meal by 10 after we waited for the bill from the waiter for over 30 min. He never came by our table! It was very strange. We kept thinking is the waiter going to bring the bill by, we were kinda laughing to ourselves because it seemed very empty ourside for them to just forget about us. Yes, the place was very pretty outside, I loved it. However the treatment and the serice were very poor for the high price we paid. I think there are other places that are just as romantic, for the prices and the better service we should have went to Mortons. Anyway just thought I would warn other people about this place. Our experience there was not good at all.

5 Stars: Romantic Restaurant (by FernandoR3)

After 8 years I decided to propose to my girlfriend. I was confused on what restaurant to choose from. I read good reviews for il Cielo, but i was concerned over the last bad reviews that were recently posted. Without knowing what to expect I made reservations on 2/16/09 at 6pm. It was a 45 min drive from orange county. As we entered the restaurant we were greeted and we sat by the entrance in the patio. We ordered our dinner and it was served in a short time. Following our delicious dinner we ordered our desserts and that's when I proposed. I asked the question of a lifetime and she said YES. After that before we left I asked if we could take pictures and Thomas Scalfaro, manager, took a few pictures of us. Once he knew I had proposed he felt bad that we didn't mention it earlier. He invited us to toast to end the best night of our lives. Overall the food was great, the service was great, the environment was great, and my only regret was not mentioning it was my engagement dinner.

1 Stars: I am still offended... (by lottedixon)

Wow. Il Cielo would not confirm my reservations for Valentine's dinner until I filled out a credit card authorization for the cost of dinner, tax and a 20% gratuity. The contract stated that if we were late, we would lose our reservation but be charged anyway.

It boggles my mind that if an emergency were to make us late, we would be required to pay for a dinner we did not receive and tip 20% for service not provided. I can't believe they would assume I would not pay, tip appropriately or call if I am running late. Is this the type of clientele this restaurant attracts? I can't believe that businesses can operate this way. I guess I should be glad to learn how they operate before stepping foot inside the restaurant.

I chose Inn of the Seventh Ray as a romantic alternative.

3 Stars: Only OK... (by GwenPenny)

My boyfriend and I chose Il Cielo for our anniversary after reading rave reviews about it being the best romance/anniv. place. The outer area is under a tent canopy, decorated with strings of xmas lights all across the top (Many viewers claimed it was like looking up at the stars-It is not-you could do it at home yourself). They also had lamps/candles around rendering the place much brighter than a 'romantic' place should be. It was uncomfortable.
The service was alright, but we had to push for it. We went on a Tuesday night at an early time (8pm) and had made reservations a week prior to avoid any seating/waiting complications. There were tons of open tables all around the area, but we were seated between two tables filled with old men in suits having a loud/good time. The tables are set up in rows with potted plants and vines as barriers, so one table of loud men was lass than 2 feet away from us with no sort of privacy since the potted plants are placed a meter apart from one another-I bumped elbows with our neighbors accidentally a few times.
Due to the bright lights, and the close proximity of surrounding tables/lack of privacy, we felt very exposed, not comfortable whatsoever.(booth and corner lovers will know what I mean) It was very, very far from romantic.
We asked to be reseated (since all tables around us were all available), and they did so immediately and apologetically. Our waiter was in-training, and very polite/customer oriented (we had to ask for silverware, etc...). It makes me wonder why they seated us in such an undesirable location in the first place-We had stressed it was for an anniversary occasion when we arrived. The new seat, though still bright, and next to the front door, was at least away from the gangs of old, loud suits.
The food was not anything to write home about -I've made better pasta cabernera at home (it was too heavy) and the seafood paella was average. The price/food/service was all average for the area.

5 Stars: Amore.... (by missang)

Wow, the rumor is true. This place is incredibly romantic. My boyfriend took me here for my birthday. I won't spoil it for those of you who haven't been, but everything was so nicely presented; the staff, the ambiance, the food, all of it! I absolutely suggest sitting outside if you want the full effect. And you must try the chocolate dessert - I think it has rasberry or something in it, but OMG it is luxurious. A must go!

5 Stars: great food, wonderful wine, great management (by songsmike)

My wife and I went for our third anniversary; the food, ambiance, and wine were great. Unfortunately our server was awful and we left feeling let down. The next day we emailed the restaurant to tell them about our experience; within an hour of sending the email the owner had me on the phone, apologizing left and right and asking us to come back as his guest. We just went back and they prepared a special tasting menu for us, including great wine pairings and awesome food. We spent the entire evening there and they really made us feel wonderful; they took a bad situation and turned it around, and for that we would highly recommend this place. We'll be going back for sure!

5 Stars: Best Engagement Proposal (by Jimmyhan)

I decided to propose to my girlfriend, on her birthday, at one of the most romantic restaurants in Los Angeles! I had 6 bouquets of flowers delivered and was afraid that there might not be enough room on a table for two, so I requested a bigger table. The host called me back to let me know that since it was such a special occasion for me, that they would give me a PRIVATE ROOM and set up the flowers for me! The flowers were all set-up nicely, and the table had rose petals spread out on it. The two hosts and our waiter were extra attentive, extremely helpful, and exceeded all my expectations (which were high anyways)! THE BEST SERVICE, THE MOST ROMANTIC AMBIANCE, and they treated us like royalty. A Beverly Hills gem and fabulous experience!

5 Stars: Amazing Restaurant!!! (by spolyak68)

My boyfriend took me to Il Cielo last night for my birthday. I'm very picky with restaurants, but this one was absolutely wonderful! The service was incredible, best service I've ever had (and I've eaten at some high profile places before)! Everyone from the car valet to the gentleman that opened the door for us to the waiters to, of course, our main waiter were extremely courteous, friendly and punctual. We had fresh mozarella with tomatoes for an appetizer, chicken and seafood with great wine for an entree, and an amazing warm chocolate volcano for dessert. Everything was extremely tasty! And the ambience of the restaurant is so romantic, the tables are well-spaced for more privacy, candles and flowers everywhere (we sat on the front patio), and great buddha-bar style music in the background. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone!

4 Stars: outside seating is great (by Kristin C.)

If you can get a table outside in the courtyard, you definitely should because that is why this restaurant is known as one of the most romantic places in Los Angeles. The service is friendly most of the time and the food is pretty good. The ambiance though, truly makes this place!

4 Stars: all-around consistent, & romantic too! (by dthstar)

we always sit outside at the entrance area cuz that's the best place to sit as you get to feel the natural breeze (& not-too-hot heat lamps nearby in winter) & be under the stars & the moon (if they're out). to add to that, their blue icicle-lighting streaming overhead, canopied upward&downward like falling stars really makes the dining experience more pleasant and makes you wish you were in love or on a hot date. but it doesn't stop there. their food is excellent! we ordered 8 different things on the menu & all 8 exceeded our expectations (which hardly ever happens). we also recommend trying their flourless chocolate tarte for dessert! this place is an all-around consistent impressive dining venue.
keyword: consistent.

5 Stars: #1 intimate Resturant (by bobochild)

I was treated to this special place for dinner to celebrate my birthday. Upon arrival we were greeted at the door and taken to our table. The sommelier welcomed us and then introduced us to our waiter Michael. Michael asked us our names and promised us 10+ service for our dinning experience. After giving us the specials, we started with the calamari fritti con pomodoro. These had to be the best I?ve ever had, battered and fired to perfection. We all decided on the Scialatielli sorrentini con astice e pom odoretti that is severed with a whole Maine lobster. Our first selection of wine was Opus 1, but sadly they were out. The sommelier did offer Joseph Phelps Insignia 2003 30th anniversary wine. The wine was a very nice and smooth and a nice alternative to the Opus. The arrival of the food was timed perfectly to allow for us to enjoy the appetizer, wine and some conversation. Desert was a great chocolate mousse like cake that was perfection. They presented it on a plate and wrote in chocolate icing around the plate, Happy Birthday. I can say that this will be one birthday that I will not soon forget. Michael was an absolute gem and did provide the 10+ service he promised and more. Michael was very attentive, took time to ask questions about us and was willing to share about himself. The restaurant is very beautiful and intimate. Having been to many other 5 star restaurants, Il Cielo has now become my #1 restaurant and Michael my #1 waiter in LA area. Not only do you get what you pay for but so much more. Don?t let this great place pass you by.

1 Stars: Avoid like the plague. (by mcorbon)

Upon arriving to the restaurant, there was no public parking. Luckily, there was a spot in the back of the restaurant where I put my car. ($6+ saved). Inside the restaurant we were greeted by 2 people, neither of which showed us to our table. ... We had reservations. But we WERE seated.

Now, I'm 27... took my fiancee, and our 2 friends out for a birthday. I have a real job. Not some hourly do-nothing with a nametag.

Once at our table, our waiter walked by us no less than 3 times before we got our drinks. Water and wine. Then we watched as tables around us were seated and promptly greeted by the same waiter. ... They also received their food ahead of us, and got a little small talk. When our food DID come, it was great. Everything looked great and everyone appeared to enjoy the food. Our waiter again, looking at us with disdain, as he cleared the table, not making any eye contact, let alone a smile... or even ask us if we needed anything.

They cut our friends cake, for $16... because, according to the mgr, "it wahz en outzide item..." I'd have cut it for nothing.

Bottom line: our bill came to $160+ (and we ate LIGHT), and because I'm NOT a jack*ss, I tipped. I'd have given more if the waiter wasnt a kn0b. The guys who brought water were AWESOME and nice. I phoned the manager who proceeded to spread the weak sauce all over our conversation. With his interruptions, and condescending remarks, I ended up hanging up on him. I'm not one to make a scene at the table. I wasnt out for hand-out, I didnt want anything for free, Hell, I didnt even want an apology. I just wanted to make him aware of what was going on. Instead, I got my waiter... in manager form.

Just because I didnt pull up in a Ferrari, and wave $100's in front of my face, obviously made me less of a person.

Il Cielo... Svck it.

1 Stars: HORRIBLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (by kueb)

Completely disappointing..... where do I start. I actually read these reviews before making a reservation for my husbands birthday but decided to give it a try anyway... and we really ended up paying for it big time. My biggest complaint was the food. The calamari which was nothing spectacular and quite plain and our main dishes were so disgusting, I can't even describe it. Even worse, I ended up getting sick for two days from the lobster dish I ordered. So disappointing and even devastating because it was my husband's birthday.... NEVER again. Save your time and money (it's overpriced as well).

I have never written a review (good or bad), but the experience at this place was so bad that I felt I had to share.
I took my husband there to celebrate his birthday and I expected this beautiful place, but instead it looked like a backyard with tinkle lights. The service was slow and our waiter spent the entire time talking with the guest at another table. The food was disgusting! I did not expect this from a "Beverly Hills" restaurant, not to mention from "the most romantic spot in LA". It is not the most romantic spot at all. I'm not sure if they had Playboy night or what, but skimpy chicks kept walking in. Before you get excited, these were not attractive chicks. I was seriously crying the entire time, I could not believe my husband's birthday dinner could be so bad. Oh, it got worse. When I called to make the reservation, they suggested I order the heart-shaped chocolate cake for $18 as a surprise, so I did. You would expect them to bring it out as soon as we were done with dinner, but instead the waiter brings out the dessert menu! WTF - why would I want to see the menu if I already ordered something in advance. I was so upset because this was supposed to be a surprise. Needless to say, this was the worst experience and i would not recommend it to anyone. Don't buy into the hype - it is not the most romantic spot nor is the food any good.

5 Stars: AN UNFORGETABLE NIGHT (by nruskell)

If you love Italian food and Italians, "the real ones" you must try this restaurant. We arrived punctually on a Friday night. The place was packed, but we were seated immediately. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. Leonardo, this charming Italian Manager welcomes us with the wonderful Italian words of Ciao bella and Bonassera, he sat us in the front garden, which looks like a fairy-tale. When I made the reservation I said to the lady that it was a special occasion, but wow. Our table was covered with red rose petals and candles, I was thrilled. We had a very nice Italian server, Jonny, who was wonderful. They have an incredibly interesting Italian wine selection, we had the best Italian chardonnay I ever had, Jermann Dreams and a wonderful wine from Sardinia suggested by our waiter. And the food..aaah...I could eat there every night! I feel like I should not write this review, otherwise It will be impossible to get a table there, but they truly deserve it. From when you step in with the warm welcome by the Manager, which by the way was always checking the tables, and in the end made it even more special by offering us a home made dessert and Lemoncello drinks! I mean, it could not have been better--we had a nice waiter, everything was just perfect and that night I felt very special?see you soon IL CIELO and GRAZI.

1 Stars: Bad food, terrible service, but expensive (by aheger)

Tasting menu took 3.5 hours to serve; was almost inedible; appeared to be the worst of the food the chef could prepare; uncomfortable seats; waiter poured new wine into half filled glasses of old wine; cold and someone needs to ask them to clean the bird ____ off the plastic roof. Romantic---hard to know--But definitely pricey

5 Stars: Beautiful ambiance, superb service (by bellamusa)

We drove by this restaurant when my date asked me to turn around, it's so cozy and hidden that I was surprised that he caught it. He took me to celebrate my mother's day and it couldn't have been better. We had no reservations but they sat us right away in a cozy corner in the patio. Everyone was so friendly and warm, they made me feel like I was visiting old friends. The waiters were excellent, warm and attentive. The food was heavenly, scrumptious and dripping with flavor. I commend the chef for his artful cooking. They gave us plenty of time to talk and eat and yet came and refilled our drinks and checked on us without making us feel pressured. I loved the relaxed atmosphere, it was romantic and unpretentious. They let the food and service speak for itself. We went on a Wed which I just found out they close at 10 but we didn't leave until past 11 and they in no way made us feel like they were closing. I loved it, I applaud a restaurant in LA that can be romantic and simple at the same time.

4 Stars: beautiful romantic dining (by juju13es)

My valentines date took me here for dinner once? and I was not disappointed. The restaurant is held in what looks like a charming little house? we dined outside in the front patio, which was very private and romantic. The waiters seemed authentically Italian with their turned-up moustaches and their accents. They were extremely friendly and courteous, and I felt like there were 3 waiters serving one table. I can?t remember the food too well (it?s been a few years), but I remembered that my date had to put in a couple of big bills for dinner? Though I would highly recommend it for romantic dates, I don?t think it would be appropriate for other types of outings (friends and family).

2 Stars: Terrible service and tasteless food (by amandagrahame)

I was very excited to go and very disappointed by the end. My boyfriend asked for no mushrooms and out the food came with mushrooms. So it had to be re cooked so we didn't get to eat together. The manager on duty made us feel like it as our fault even though he clealy told the waiter no mushrooms. At a high end restaurant like that there should be no reason for mistakes esp when there is only 10 main courses anyway. My food was one of the specials rice with saffron and sea food. It was so tasteless and I only ate half. No one came to check on how the meal was. We hadn't even finished eating when they took the plates away and told us about desert. At this point we just wanted to leave and asked for the bill. It was over priced and not worth saying anything good about. The waiters and management need a lesson in how to treat their patrons with politeness and courtesy as we didn't recieve any.

3 Stars: Par excellence alfresco dining with superlative staff and scrumptious Northern Italian food (by enthusiasticdiner)

Wow! Are my girlfriends and I ever glad we came here in spite of the negative reviews I read on Il Cielo! I came here from San Juan Capistrano with my two friends for their birthdays at 11:30 AM. We've been celebrating birthdays together for 50 years at many and varied locations in Southern California, and I must say this topped everything. EVERYONE, from the valet who parked our car, to the busboy, to Ivan our wonderfully charming and helpful waiter, Massimo the General Manager, and finally the owner (who I searched for and found in his office) were extremely accommodating and pleasant. The patio was the most charming we've seen in the greater LA area, full of gorgeous blooming hydrangeas, climbing vines, and other lovelies. It wasn't cold, even in the chilly winter weather we've had lately. They carried in our many many birthday gifts and let us spread out into the other table space next to us. Not only that, they allowed us to stay for over 3 and a half hours, never pestering us to leave or acting nervous that we wanted to stay. Now! to the food: I can't believe that anyone wouldn't be totally delighted in whatever they happened to choose from the varied menu. I had salmon, Jan had the squash ravioli, and Sandra had the clam linguini. All three sets of tastebuds were standing up and shouting hooray at the exquisite sensory pleasures. For dessert I had the sorbet and gelato, and my friends shared the beauteously special petite chocolate cake, served on a large silver platter which was decorated with molten chocolate in the spirit of the happy occasion--their birthdays. We couldn't be more delighted with our afternoon, and I respectfully submit this review from the 3 of us. Kudos to Il Cielo, Ivan, the rest of the staff, and the management. We shall return.

1 Stars: AVOID this OVERPRICED and OVERHYPED place at all costs (by ripken0000)

OVERPRICED,OVERHYPED, TUDE WAIT STAFF and HOSTS/ESSES where do I stop? or start. Gave this place two tries over the past year and each time could not believe the service that was rendered/not rendered. We were not seated very quickly and put in a spot that had a table that leaned at an awkward angle so our plates kept sliding. Wish i would have tried somewhere else to go for an anniversary meal. Will definitely not be returning due to poorly prepared food, rude service and terrible parking. How can people keep rating this place as a GREAt romantic spot. In a word DON'T GO save your MONEY

2 Stars: Overpriced, Rude Waiters & Staff and NOT the most romantic restaurant in LA! (by krislecl)

After hearing great things about Il Cielo I suggested it as a place to celebrate my friend's birthday dinner. Boy were we disappointed!! There was a speaker right next to our table blaring techno and even though we kept asking for them to turn down the volume somehow it would get turned back up again. The waiter was rude and pompous. The food was not even that great compared to other less expensive places. They charged us a ridiculous $25 corkage fee to open our own wine. They were rude when they brought out the wrong dish and we asked to get the one we really ordered. They even charged us for both plates!! They were rude when we said we didn't want desert and proceeded to bring a desert anyways and charged us $15 for it! I would NEVER return to this place, regardless of what anyone else says, don't go here! There are far better Italian places to eat in this city with staff that will not be snotty!!

Come here mostly for the atmosphere. You are seated under a beautiful garden lit canopy - very romantic setting. Order wine and dessert. The sea bass filet is cut by the table, but beware of fish bones, i myself slightly choked on one - yes, making my romantic date a bit of a disaster. nevertheless i recommend this place, if only for a photo opportunity.

O.K....FIRST OF ALL! I came here to enjoy my anniverasry with my girl because she has always wanted to come here. Unfortunately, when we came in to sit down, I kinda got the feeling that we were not welcome here. The service at the next table was way faster and more pleasant. I felt like I was ready to go. Until George began waiting our table. It was like a complete 180. He made sure everything was on time, and served us like a comedian would time his punchline to the audience!Perfectly! I swear if it were not for George I would have left this place in 10 minutes. I'm also an employee of Citysearch, so you know I look out for everything! But that day...George....with a "G"...saved our evening!
Thanks George!!

5 Stars: Unbelievable! (by piper11)

My husband and I got married here last year. It was unbelievable! We were so incredibly happy with the service and food. If you are looking for a romantic and intimate wedding, this is the place. The food was fabulous - cocktails (peach bellinis and champagne) prior to the ceremony, scrumptous appetizers after the ceremony, and an amazing dinner! I have had so many compliments about the food. The best food at a wedding - bar none! All my guests were stuffed! The chocolate cake with rasberries and white frosting was fresh and utterly delicious. Christine the coordinator is amazing! I believe that she left - which is a total shame. The service is impeccable. These servers were so attentive and accomodating. They treated everyone first class. You also have to experience the Il Cielo Charriot. Being serenaded and walked over to the Four Seasons Hotel with candles was a great way to end the evening (while guests sip on cappachinos and munch on biscottis)! I thought it would be cheezy, but I am so glad that Christine talked me into it. Il Cielo fulfilled my expectations (over and beyond). Worth every penny!!

5 Stars: Beautiful ambiance and wonderful, attentive service plus delicious food (by velveteyes)

From the moment I left my car and was helped up the curb by the valet to entering the restaurant and being asked if I needed help up the two steps by the hostess to being seated by the waiter for a private birthday luncheon for 30, everything was excellent. The help was very attentive; especially since the lady to my right was getting hot flashes and the waiter opened the air conditioning vent near us to direct the cool air at her. Presentation may be everything but so is the taste of good food. We were served very beautiful and tasty salads, our choice of salmon or chicken breast which was actually too much food and the most delicious flourless chocolate cake decorated with what looked like real flowers. There were rose petals everywhere and the odor from the flowers was as delicious as the food. Obviously, from reading the previous critiques, they have gotten their act together as far as ambiance, food and service go. I went on line to look at their menu and their prices and they are not rediculously high for what you get. It is indeed a special occasion restaurant and I am combing my calendar looking for the next special occasion so that I can return. My only gripe was that when they returned my car, the valet had parked it under a tree full of purple berries and I had to rush to a car wash so that the berries wouldn't stain the paint.

1 Stars: Highly Overrated, Inconsiderate and Overpriced (by encanta)

My husband and I got married at Il Cielo, and it was lovely...and extremely expensive. We made a reservation for our two-year anniversary, reminding them that we had been married at the restaurant. They assured us that we would get special treatment and a "special dessert." However, the service was slow, the food mediocre. Worst of all, the "special dessert" was a just-okay-tasting little chocolate cake - for which we were BILLED FIFTEEN DOLLARS! We weren't asked what we wanted, but we assumed it would be complimentary in honor of our anniversary. It was a slap in the face that they would sneak in an extra charge on top of the already expensive bill, especially considering that we spent over 20 grand there for our wedding. How sad that our most recent experience at our wedding location left such a bad taste in our mouths - literally and figuratively.

The food and service here is exceptional! The servers are so nice and attentive and the food is fresh and flavorful. I recommend the tomato soup, pasta with clam sauce, fish dishes, and deserts. The flourless chocolate cake is to die for!! I enjoyed the meal and atmosphere so much that my fiancee and I are planning to get married there next year! However it is not cheap...but worth it if the service and food is what I am hoping it will be for the price. It is a lovely cottage house with a french country feel. I love the white lights and candles. Very very romantic!

1 Stars: disappointing food and service (by phlin)

Il Cielo is a romantic restaurant, yes, but the poor food and unacceptable service makes this place a huge disappointment. My date and I both ordered pasta dishes (the pasta special and the Spaghetti Latini), and both our dishes came out poorly: bland, very starchy, and surprisingly undercooked. We also found our server very aloof and inattentive. Not only did he completely forget our wine order, but he never came by our table to see how we liked (or in our case, disliked) our dishes. I had high hopes for this place, but after this experience, I doubt I will ever go back there again.

4 Stars: A place to get Married! (by vincenzo49)

My daughter had the most wonderful experience there with her boyfriend and she took me there one night with my wife. The atmosphere was so nice, I felt like I was on vacation, and eating in a neighberhood restaurant in Tuscany. I highly recommend it, although be prepared to open your wallet.

5 Stars: Il Cielo (by Luis S.)

This restaurant always gets recognized for awards and picked in the LA Times or on CitySearch as being the best romantic restaurant in LA.. And that's probably true.. but only of the outside courtyard - not the inside. Very good for dates like anniversarys or valentines day. Very good Italian food and Italian courtyard feel.

5 Stars: Great ambiance and service (by lagirlyee)

If you want to go to a restaurant where you will be catered to, then Il Cielo is for you. The service is outstanding, probably the best I have experienced in LA. The waiters are very attentive as well as pleasant. Try to request seating on the back patio, it's beautiful!

3 Stars: If you like Cheesy!!! (by kymmiekat)

The only thing wonderful about this place is location. Now if you want to talk about how average this place is, then you hit it right on the nose. Ugh, where do I start. The ambience is cheesy with cheap little lights everywhere. The front patio is a little better then the back. Now for the waiter. I ordered a salad to start and the dish, get this, was missing one key ingredient that was written in the menu. So, I told the waiter he said, "oh, I am sorry, I will be right back"...I thought he was getting another salad with the arugula that was missing in the first one..NO, he had the nerve to bring a bowl of arugula so that I could add it myself! The main entree was tasty. I think it should not be considered that romantic, just festive with good food.

5 Stars: Magical (by ricdlegal)

La Pasion- their chocolate dessert was worth the wait. Melt in your mouth decadence. Hmm..... if only the wait wasn't at least 20 minutes for this dessert, I'd gladly make the drive to Beverly Hills more frequently to experience this sheer delight! The ambiance makes you long for a passionate rendezvous afterwards.

5 Stars: Very Romantic (by yasusasu)

I had a full day of activities planned for my engagement day. After a great day of activities, I wanted to top of the wonderful day with a very romantic dinner with great food and great service. I was not let down at all. After calling ahead and informing the staff of my special occasion, they treated us with exemplerary service and the food selection was exquisite. I highly recommend this restaurant! The ambiance was amazing and the tomatoes they used were the best I've ever had. I think the Bruschetta could possibly be the best I've ever tasted.

4 Stars: Highly Recommended (by changj2000)

I was looking for a romantic restaurant to surpise my wife on her birthday. I called ahead, made reservations and let them know that the evening would be for a special occasion. This was pivotal in ensuring a great evening. The staff was prepared and extremely friendly. They even had a special desert waiting for us with her name written out in chocolate.
The restaurant itself is small, quaint, and charming. As others have noted, the food isn't the best, but it isn't as horrific as others make it sound. When in doubt just order simpler dishes that are hard to get wrong. Such as the steaks, or linguine with clam sauce.
I cant tell you how many "nice" restaurants we have been to, only to be disappointed. However, our experience at Il Cielo was most memorable. I highly recommend this restaurant. Just be sure to call ahead.

Il Cielo is definately a special occation type of restaurant. If you want to have a nice romantic dinner with that special someone this is the place to take him or her. I wouldnt say the food is 5 star, but the ambiance certainly is.

2 Stars: Dreadful food in Serene surroundings (by WonderWoman68)

While Il Cielo boasts one of the prettiest patios in LA, which seduces me to return every few years and is about that's about how long it takes to forget the fifth rate food, it is always a terrible disapponitment and a supreme waste of money. The food is bland, canned half the time and terrible. If this stuff was served at a cheap bistro in mid-America at half the price then fine. As it stands, shame on them.

4 Stars: interesting vibe (by ChocolateFrog)

Being in the heart of Hollywood you wouldnt think youd find such a great outdoor patio for dining. The crowd was quite eclectic when I went with a group on a Sat night. The music and mood were funky and the menu is interesting to boot. Go with an open mind.

5 Stars: Most Romantic Spot in LA (by dioncampsanders)

Il Cielo is where I proposed to the woman who is now my wife. It was the most romantic night of my life and I couldn't have pulled it off with such style and charm without the tremendous help and support I received from the staff at the restaurant. We sat outside under the stars in their beautiful courtyard and the waiter coached me along all night (because I was really nervous). The climax came at the end of our 3 course meal when they brought a hear-shaped piece of tirimisou (I can't spell) on a silver platter w/ rose petals strewn about the tray and "Marry Me" written in chocolate on the tray. The ring stood up out of one big rose in the center of the cake.

1 Stars: BAD CHAIRS !!! (by MACEDIE)

We went to dinner for my birthday,a friend told us it was a great place, so off we went. We had a great table on the patio, and after sitting for about 10 min., the chair my husband was on fell apart. The waiter came over to see if all was ok, we said yes. Ate dinner, small portions, but tasted great, as my husband was reaching for his wallet, his chair broke again !!! He's not a large guy, so that was not the problem, the waiter gave us a free botttle of water with their name on it to say sorry.Haven't been back, needless to say.
