Rick, Laura & Hector are absolutely incredible and I can't recommend them highly enough!!!

If you value Trust, Integrity & Excellence and your car needs service, don't take it anywhere else but PR Motorsports.

The #1 priority for Rick & his team is the relationship they establish with their customers, and their work is of the highest possible quality!!! ;)

Every once in a while a person is lucky enough to find a business like PR Motorsports. Rick Weldon (owner) and crew are fantastic. I had a large project to do with my 2008 Mazada Miata and I have never seen such clean, knowledgable work performed. I was kept informed 1-2X/day with emails in between. I was treated with the utmost respect, which I noted all of their customers were. If you own a Mazda or other Japanese car this is the place to go. Prices are extremely reasonable

Other people have already mentioned Rick's shop is THE place for Miata work in the Bay Area. I wanted to share a few anecdotes about my experience with PR Motorsports in the last ten years or so I've been doing business with them:

A) A few years back, my girlfriend's Miata developed some sort of clutch/transmission issue. We took it to a mechanic and they diagnosed it as needing a replacement transmission -- about a $1600 job. I went to Rick and said ""look, another shop said I need a $1600 transmission job. If you think that's what I need, I'll give you the $1600 right now to do the work."" They looked at the car for about 10 minutes and came back to me with ""well, it looks like the slave cylinder's in need of replacement. It's about a $150 job, but if you want to give us $1600 for it, we won't argue."" :)

B) Stupidly, I let the car flood (left the roof down; massive storm) and sit for about six months. I came back to PRM and told them ""I don't know what's going on with the car. Check it out, you're authorized to do up to $500 of repairs on it, if you need more money, give me a call."" They called me two hours later. ""We checked everything out. Your O2 sensor was a little loose. $50"";

C) When I got married, my wife was concerned that the car (it's 19 years old at this point) wasn't going to last and wasn't particularly safe. I had her call Rick and they had a LONG phone conversation. Whatever he said, she left that conversation loving the car and loving PR Motorsports. My WIFE loves my mechanic;

D) My clutch has been sticking and hard to push in lately; I dropped into PRM today and asked them to take a quick look and tell me how bad of a problem I may be having. Hector sat in the car, adjusted the floor mat, and said ""OK, go ahead and give it a test drive."" OK, I feel stupid. I came in and asked ""how much do I owe you?"" and they laughed at me. ""What, for 60 seconds of looking at your car?""

Rick's saved me thousands of dollars on repair work; everything PRM has done on my car has been done to the highest possible level of quality; they've done all my maintenance and all my optional, custom work (rollbar, engine upgrade, etc). I trust PRM. Completely. Don't go anywhere else.

Cons: They Don't Service Nissan or Audi (my other cars) :(

Ever since I got my 99 miata, I've had bad experiences one after another until I found PR Motorsport almost two years ago. Unlike other mechanics I've dealt with, they are straight forward and honest. They don't patronize their customers and are always very friendly and patient in explaining their work. Although they are not the cheapest, they don't gouge you like many places I've been to. They suggest what needs to be done and tell you what's unnecessary. I've had problems with my car that others weren't able to fix. I thought I was stuck with a lemon but PR Motorsports saved me from that fate. Now, I get all my work done there and I would recommend them with confidence to anyone.

Some years ago, maybe about 1999 or so, I bought a used Mazda and searched the yellow pages for a repair shop for it. Quite at random, I called PR Motor Sports. A woman answered. Even though I personally know very little about automobiles, I asked to speak to ?a mechanic? ( a MAN, of course). Laura suggested that she might be able to help me. Reluctantly, I posed my questions. As it turns out, she knew more about cars than any male mechanic I had ever known, and thus was borne our family?s undying allegiance to Rick & Laura and their crew at PR MotorSports..\r
\r
Despite the long drive from our home in Oakland to Hayward, we would not CONSIDER having anyone else work on our cars, and ? in fact ? before we ever BUY a car, we ask for Rick & Laura?s opinion and would not dream of buying any manufacturer?s car that PRM does not support.\r
\r
These guys are THE BEST: honest to a fault, totally competent and thorough, AND fairly priced. They feel like ?family? to us.\r

I echo the chorus of positive reviews for PR Motorsports. I have had a long history of mediocre mechanics and dropped by PRMotorsports to see if the online buzz was legit. I was impressed in their quick ability to assess my car, prioritize the work and their willingness to make suggestions that might result in a more cost effective result (they are not the cheapest place around but it is nice to hear which work needs to be done immediately and what can wait or not be done at all and that is money in the bank to me, as is doing the job right and backing it up). They are serious about their work and they treat their customers very well. I saw high performance cars and their customers who were treated as well as folk who were clearly on a fixed income and who were just trying to keep their cars running and safe. Rick and his team treated them all the same and that was refreshing too. To sum it up: they know their stuff (and my car) and they are honest. What more could I ask for?\r
\r
(until recently I lamented that they did not also work on VW's but I recently found a great shop for my Passat too, but that will be another review)

Rick and the PR Motorsports crew are the best. In my dealings with PR Motorsports I have always gotten excellent information and service. They will only propose work that they know is needed. At times Rick has talked me out of doing something to the car. I just had brake problems and they spent an hour analyzing the cause, identified the source, knew it was something I could correct myself, and sent me on my way with a project to work on because they knew I did most of my own mechanical work. What other shop would go to these lengths. All my recent major work has been done at PR Motorsports and will continue to be done there.

Rick and his crew at PR Motorsports are as good as it gets when it comes to Mazda, Acura & Honda service. I've been using PR Motorsports since 2000 and they've serviced my 1992 Miata, 1994 Miata, 1994 Spec Miata Race Car, and 1997 Mazda Protege. Rick will tell you straight up what you need, with no BS. They don't pressure you to do unnecessary repairs or maintenance, rather Rick goes out of his way to educate you on what your car needs and when you might need the next service or repair. I give PR Motorsports 2 thumbs up, make that 10 thumbs up!!!

They first started servicing my Acura back in 1990, and have since taken care of all my cars - later a Mazda, and most recently my Toyota. Although I'm a bit far away (in S.F.) I feel that it's worth the trip to have someone I can trust taking care of our family's cars. Highly recommended.

If there were six stars to rate PR Motorsports available, I'd give it seven! Rick Weldon has been servicing my 1991 Mazda Miata from day one when I first bought it nearly eighteen years ago. In fact no other shop has really ever worked on it except for specialty things that the his shop doesn't handle, (and in that case, Rick sends me to extremely reliable shops who will!) This is all to say that I completely trust PR with my car, always have. They are honest beyond belief, trustworthy and so friendly. I just had a major service there which took some time and yet felt comfortable staying and chatting the entire time and watching what was going on. I learned about PR early on in 1991 from the Miata Club whose members all brought their cars to Rick. From the first time on I was thrilled to have found them right away without having to shop and search for reliable service. They have become almost family to me by now. The shop is so clean you could eat off the floor! They keep up on all the newest developments on automotive technology so there's never concern on my part. Also their prices are extremely reasonable.\r
\r
I travel from Walnut Creek to this shop, and now my husband is taking his Acura here as well.\r
\r
Which is to say, I'm true blue.

When I bought my '88 RX7 14 years ago the previous owner told me that he got all of the servicing done at PR Motorsports, so I tried them. The drive to Hayward from Oakland isn't quick, but unlike almost every other car shop that I have been to, Rick and his crew seem genuinely interested in my long-term interests. Hey has always given me a heads-up on parts of the car that I should watch out for in the future and gives me the option of when (or if) to do the repairs.\r
\r
Even though they obviously know and loving high performance and racing, they always talk to me in terms that I can understand. That's nice, because it has helped me to learn more about what my car needs and how to keep it running great! When I visit there I always feels like family ... and their cat mascot is the coolest! \r
\r
I recommend PR Motorsports to anybody that loves their car and wants a comfortable place with great people.

I first brought my 1985 RX-7 GSL-SE to P.R. Motorsports when I bought it in about 1993 or 1994. A friend had raced RX-7s and swore by Rick and his crew. Though it wasn't exactly convenient (I live in Oakland) to bring my car to an industrial park in Hayward, I was so impressed with their knowledge and the quality and value of their work, along with the family atmosphere, that I found it well worth the hassle. After 5 or 6 years (and 222,000 miles) I sold my Mazda and bought a Nissan 300ZX. I loved the car, but was bummed that P.R. didn't work on Zs and I had to find another mechanic. Recently I retired the Z (with 225,000 miles) and found a 2001 Miata Special Edition with less than 20,000 miles! There was no question where I was going to take it for servicing. I called P.R. and was glad to hear Laura answer the phone. Though it had been more than seven years, she and Rick remembered me immediately. I was also happy to hear that Hector was still there. I brought my new Miata in for a general going over and a cold air intake mod. Nothing had changed. Still great people doing great work at more than competitive prices. The mechanic who worked on my Z also works on Mazda's, but I wouldn't dream of taking my Miata anywhere else but P.R. Motorsports. I can't recommend them highly enough.

For anyone who needs a great mechanic to service a Honda, Mazda, Toyota, or Acura this is the place to go. The staff at PR Motorsports are extremely knowledgeable and very friendly, they treat their customers like family. I have been a customer of PR Motorsports for 25+ years and highly recommend them to everyone I know. I have never had a bad experience when dealing with the owner, Mr. Rick Weldon, or any member of his staff. They do what they say they will do, there are no surprises. They tell you everything you need to know to make an informed decision as it pretains to the service of your vehicle. There are never any hidden costs or unexpected charges. The service is exceptional. One of the truley honest business around today, built on a foundation of doing right by its customer and building a loyal customer base.

I shopped for an auto mechanic for my car as carefully as I shopped for a pediatrician for my kids--lots of research, lots of talking with friends about their experiences. I was looking for someone I could trust to tell me the truth about my car's condition, keep me updated about any work needed, and keep it in safe running order since I transport the most valuable things in the world--my kids. I also wanted someone who wasn't going to overcharge me.\r
\r
PR Motorsports is my choice. Over the years, owner Rick Weldon and his team of professionals have cared for our two minivans and now our two Toyota hybrids. Their honesty, integrity and professional (and efficient) service have made me a loyal customer.\r
\r
I drive all the way from Oakland/Piedmont area to Hayward each time. Their service is THAT good and that valuable to me! Give them a shot. You won't be disappointed. And, if you're the kind that likes to wait--they now offer free internet access!

The first time I called PR Motorsports the person answering the phone took charge of diagnosing the problem with my Mazda. I changed garages over two years ago and have never looked back. The service is consistently superb. Everyone is always super nice, and they get whatever needs to be done thoroughly and right. They always put in factory parts and give me the best options. I have had no surprises on prices or service. The level of service is consistently excellent; over the top in my book.

The folks at PR Motorsports are second to none. The level of expertise and service set the standard for what an auto shop should be. I drive my Miata at high performance events at the track and would trust no one else to give my car the once over before each event. I drive all the way down from San Rafael. It is worth it for the piece of mind that the job is done right. Rick Weldon offers the same level of service whether he is doing a simple oil change or installing a supercharger. You can drive away knowing the job is done right.

I've been going to PR Motorsports to service our family cars for about 19 years, I have NOT 1 complaint about them. Excellent service, very knowledgeable mechanics and crew, very honest and upfront about their diagnosis and repair. They have earned my trust, that is why they are the only shop that I would trust to service my cars.\r

Thanks to Rick Weldon and the extraordinarily talented mechanics in his shop, I am still driving my 1988 Honda Civic. I met Rick in 1989, and only PR Motorsports has serviced my car since then. My primary concern when looking for a shop to service my car is trust. I trust Rick. Rick explains everything you might want to know in as much detail as you may care to hear. All of the repair work that Hector and Vic have done for me over the years was perfect; I have never had to return for a follow-up visit. Also, do not hesitate to ask Laura about anything. She is EXTREMELY knowledgeable -- Laura is my telephone automotive paramedic. PR Motorsports folks have been together for a long time. They are a family and treat customers like family, too. \r
\r
My favorite Rick story goes like this. My oil light was on for awhile, but there was plenty of oil in the engine. I kept checking the oil over several weeks. Life, family and work were turning into an emotional Bermuda Triangle, so I didn't pay that much attention to the noise I started hearing in the engine. I finally decided to see Rick and, on Winton Avenue on the way to his shop, I threw a rod. Yes; my 1988 Honda Hemy threw a rod. I had it towed in even though I knew my engine's life was over. In fewer than 5 minutes, my problem was solved. Rick explained all of the alternatives -- buy a new car, sell the old one fo a wrecking yard, or put in a new or used engine. -- I wasn't thinking too clearly at the time because I was very angry with myself. He located a used engine for me while I sat across the desk from him. The only delay in completing the repair was caused by Rick's dissatisfaction with the quality of the engine. So, after he found a better one, Rick and Vic compared the used engine's parts to my engine, used the better of the two parts, then installed it. Truthfully, I wonder if anyone other than Rick might have done that for his customer. I could not be happier! \r

Pros: Rides to and from Hayward BART; special car rental rates (pick-up and drop off); absolutely trustworthy & Rick's book recommendations

Cons: Can't think of even one

I first got to know Rick and his ?crew? when my ?89 Accord started having problems with leaking coolant. My regular mechanic was closed for the holidays, and Rick took a look at my car. He told me that the cap that had been put on was defective. He didn?t happen to have the ?89 part in stock (it was a few days before Christmas) and knew I needed it right away, so he called a local dealer who did, and I was able to buy the part and put it on myself. There were several other times that I called him in a panic, and he took the time to dispense accurate advice. Never once did he ask for payment or tell me that he was too busy to talk. I finally decided that I needed to have a mechanic closer to my new home, and he was it. I have never regretted making the switch and only wish I had done it sooner. My previous mechanic told me I had slapping pistons, and my car would eventually die on me. Rick had all his mechanics listen and look ? no one could hear it. He took care of a few things and told me my car was OK to drive. I even taught both my daughters to drive on that car. When it was time to purchase another car, he kept checking them out for me until we found one that was just right. Even though he was booked, he fit me in. The latest thing he did for me was when my battery died, and the radio ?coded.? He took the time to get the code for me so that I wouldn?t have to pay dealer prices. All this and regular maintenance too! What more could you want? To be treated like part of their family. They do that too!! Now both my daughters go there. If you don?t have an Acura, Honda, or Mazda, you?ll wish you did!

Pros: honest, fair, knowledgeable, reasonably priced, and terrific mechanics

My car has never driven so well since I took it to PR Motorsports. The people there are great. Honest and reliable service. And, they KNOW what they are doing too. I've been ripped off before by other shops, but I know I don't have to worry when I have PR Motorsports taking care of my Acura's maintenance and repairs.

Another shop replaced a main seal (a big Job) twice attempting to fix an oil leak on my Miata. When the car still leaked they told me that the engine was just old.\r
\r
I then took the car to P & R. They diagnosed the problem in about 15 minutes while I waited. They found that one leak was caused by the improperly installed seal, and another leak, probably the original cause of the problem, was from a crumbling rubber gasket. They fixed both problems and gave me photographs of the faulty work to show the other shop. The other shop refunded my money. No more leaks!\r

Pros: Mazda specialists

I met Rick Weldon, owner of PR Motorsports, over 10 years ago when he gave a technical presentation to a group of Miata enthusiasts. After listening to him and hearing his racing credentials, I was sold. The man knew about racing and about what it took to make a car run properly. The next time I needed a major service performed on my car, I brought it to PR and haven't gone anywhere else since. His technicians are top-notch and Laura (who handles the front office) is knowledgeable and personable. You are treated like family while your car is given the utmost care and the highest quality parts at the fairest price.\r

This is how a successful business should be run!

Pros: Excellent service, central location in the Bay Area, easy freeway access.

Cons: Because they are busy, you may need to schedule an appointment a few days in advance.

This is simply the best shop I've ever been to. I've had many cars, been to many service shops and dealers. By far, Rick and his staff at PR Motorsports take the prize. They know the cars they service really well. They will walk you through explanations and diagnostics (even on the phone) with the patience and expertise of a master. And they are honest. I think the best example of this shop's character is what I experienced last week when I was waiting for my car: I watched many customers just pop in to say hi and hang out with Rick. This is the kind of place where you feel welcome, not jilted or fooled. On top of that, every employee is happy to be there, as proved by their work history. Many have been with Rick for over a decade, some since the shop's inception. I will never take my car anywhere else...

Pros: Friendly, honest, expert.

Cons: Storefront is a bit dreary, located in the back of an industrial park.

It's hard to express just how good this shop is. But when you try to boil it down to one common denominator Rick Weldon the owner is a person with a lot of INTEGRITY. This leadership and character filters down to his staff and the results become very apparent because their work rises to the top.\r
\r
I have brought my car to him (Honda S2000) on more than one occasion with some serious problems and always have left impressed with the quality of the work and his professionalism. His shop is reliable and fair. Rick communicates consistently and is accountable while trying to assure that your repair is done right the first time. In other words: PR Motorsports is always pursuing excellence for your vehicle. They take a lot of pride in what they do. Yet, this is not their best feature!\r
\r
Their BEST FEATURE: Rick and his staff are people you can trust! Very seldom do you find a shop where you feel this way. They have the customers best interest in mind getting your car fixed, at a great price and reasonable time frame and it seems that they are always considering your vehicle and interest above any thing else. \r
\r
You (the customer) become their top priority!\r
\r
My only complaint is that his shop is not closer to San Jose!!\r
\r
Thanks to Rick and PR Motorsports I wish more shops and businesses were like yours. You really are the metric by which other shops and industries should be measured. Keep up the good work.
