5 Stars: :) (by Pamela M.)

We do animal rescue but each we keep has become a family member. In the past we'd had miraculous results from accupuncture and we needed anolther miracle at the time. We found much more in Dr. K.! In the past we'd tried many avenues looking for the best care for our cats and dogs....research hospitals, heart specialists, etc. Here we've found the best of both worlds; a blend of holistic care and traditional Western methods. My seriously ill pets seem to have been happy and peaceful for a much longer time without toxic effects from meds than with other modes. We are confident that Dr. K cares about each animal and will do his best to make them comfortable and well while still being realistic and honest. Everyone I've encountered at his clinics have been very caring. Dr. K has moved the clinic during the years we've known him and we've continued to follow his practice...the care is worth the effort!

4 Stars: Excellent Service, Friendly and Knowledgable Vets! (by Tina H.)

I've taken my cat and dog to this veterinary hospital and all the vets we have encountered are excellent! All friendly and very patient in answering our many questions! They kept us informed about everything that was going on and gave us realistic expectations in terms of our pet care needs. We visited with Dr. H. with our most recent check-up and our puppy was promptly taken care of. Excellent and easy to follow directions for treatment were given.

PROS: Great service at reasonable (to be expected) vet prices!
CONS: Small parking lot but there is street parking. Long wait to see the vet.

5 Stars: Great Place!! (by Janice O.)

I would thoroughly recommend Raymond Avenue Veterinary Hospital! My 14 year old Golden Retriever, Abigail, and I wouldn't go to any other doctor or hospital. Dr. "K" is amazing and is always able to hone is on her symptoms and prescribes the right cure. We have been through everything from algeries to cancer and have been treated with both western and homeopathic procedures. The staff is always friendly and efficient and we've ben treated like family.

2 Stars: Not sure, but definitely not a cured kitty.... (by chris p.)

If there was a 2.5 starts, I would give them that -- definitely not 'satisfactory' (3 stars), but seemed caring and tried hard and maybe it was a tough problem (a little better than straight-up 'would not recommend'.)

I took my cat there when she started limping rather badly. They gave her x-rays, and said they found a fracture in her leg. Dr. K did show me the x-ray, and I agree it looked like a fracture, but the solution did not help. At all. He also said that there looked like there might be some kind of fungal bone disease, so they needed to send blood and x-rays to a specialist. He had her stay overnight for observation, gave her pain meds, antibiotics to proactively fight any possible infection from the fracture, and put her in a HUGE cast that did not allow her to move around. I was worried about her inability to get around at all, so I called the next day, and he said to bring her back in to have a slightly more movable cast fashioned. I did, and she came away with something only slightly less awkward. He tried to explain the need for it, but his communication skills are less than exemplary. The staff was very helpful, and explained the procedure for continuing the administration of the pain meds and antibiotics at home.
After about 3-4 weeks of this cast, I called to ask about it, and he asked whether she was using the leg. Well, of COURSE she wasn't, she was barely ABLE to. She was dragging it behind her, to which he replied "ok then, let's remove the cast early," essentially. We did.

All told, the x-rays, meds, blood work, specialist diagnosis, two nights of boarding, and office calls, cost nearly $1000. In fact, one of the recetion staff called her the "million dollar kitty." Hmmmm. But, she continues to limp, and it seems to only be degenerating. They never followed up as he said they would, and so I am really considering taking my cat to someone else. It seemed like he was really trying, but so far boy did he fail....

4 Stars: Horrible Service (by Joanne W.)

We've been going to Raymond Animal Hospital for 6 years. We have seen quite a turnover in Vets. The last vet, Dr. Howe, was the greatest. We recently took our cat in believing Dr. Howe was still there, but we were very disappointed.

Dr. Taub & receptionist, Monica, acted like we were bothering them by bringing our cat in.

They gave us a quote on x-rays & while we were reviewing & deciding if we really needed the x-ray, Dr. Taub walked in. We said we did not want to spend the extra money on x-rays. She said "Whoops we already took them". When I disputed this charge, they lied & said we OK'd them.

Dr. Taub seemed only to care about the money, not the animal.

Please go somewhere else where your animal will be treated with kindness & respect.

3 Stars: Rude receptionist! (by J. R.)

I attempted to make an appointment with the vet, Dr. Howe who I have heard great things about. Unfortunately, the receptionist Mirian, was rude and rushed on the phone. When I came in for the appointment, she was none the better in person. The rest of the staff was patient and friendly. I do not reccommend dealing with her, although the vet was wonderful.

4 Stars: Has had some vet turnover, but the new staff seems good, care always great (by Rod M.)

We've been bringing our dogs and cats here since Dr Skillen, who ran the practice for years and years. Several years back, he retired and sold the facility to a young vet from the midwest.

His skill was fine, but he obviously wasn't happy with his move to Southern Cal.

More recently, a pair of vets have taken over and I've been extremely happy with my last visit, just a checkup for a house cat.

With Dr Skillen, our dog and cat had succesful surgeries. We haven't had a serious vetinary need with the new staff yet, but I'd still recommend the facilty very highly.

PROS: Many years in business, solid reputation, good facility for surgeries
CONS: New vets running the place, but first experience has been positive

4 Stars: Really impressed with excellent service!!! (by Terry G.)

My reg. vet. could not see me today, they referred me to Raymond Vet. When I called they told me they did not have any more appt's for the day. I told them my kitten has had diarrhea for 2 days. They told me to go ahead and come in as soon as possible, because kittens can get dehydrated fast. I am happy to say I found a new vet, Dr. Taub was very informative and everyone was very nice. The receptionist went over the medication with me and made sure I understood all directions before i left the office. Very caring hospital.

5 Stars: Wonderful Staff and Vet. (by A M.)

I recently lost my pet to kidney failure which was extremely difficult for me and I found the staff and the Vet (Dr. Schreiber) to be very caring. Dr. Mary Jo was an excellent Vet and will be very missed but this Hospital is still a wonderful place to bring your pets because they REALLY do love love them and give them great care.
Thank you Raymond Ave. Veterinary Hospital!

BOARDED MY TWO DOGS AND WAS GIVEN A QUOTE UPON DROP OFF AND THEN WHEN I PICKED MY DOGS UP THE PRICE WAS HIGHER. THE RECEPTIONIST ON DUTY ADVISED THE PERSON WHO HELPED ME WAS A PART-TIME EMPLOYEE AND DIDN'T KNOW WHAT SHE WAS TALKING ABOUT?SECOND BAD EXPERIENCE AT LOCATION AND RECEPTIONIST APPEARS TO HAVE A "DON'T CARE" ATTITUDE. MY DOGS WILL NO LONGER BE SERVICED OR BOARDED AT LOCATION.THE HOSPITAL USED TO GIVE MUCH BETTER SERVICE AND THEY WERE POLITE BUT NOW IT IS A PLACE I PERFER NOT TO GIVE MY SERVICE OR MONEY TO.
