I had my first daughter here and it was a very nice experience. Most of the staff was very friendly (one very RUDE, nurse was the exception) and knowledgable. I had a very difficult, long, delivery and they were extremely patient and sympathetic to my situation. The one nurse exception was when she told me my daughter needed a formula supplement because she was crying. I informed her that I was breastfeeding, and she was just fine. The nurse snipped that I didn't have anything yet and that was a very hungry baby. Another nurse that was there just told me to forget about it and that I was just fine - she was very friendly. The first nurse was extremely rude & completely uncalled for. Other than that, my entire experience was a pleasant one and I'm very glad to have delivered my daughter there.
My sister in law had her son at Mercy SW and it was a great experience. The nursing staff and doctors were amazing. My husband and I had to wait in the waiting room since of course you can only have two people in the birthing room (which was already slotted my my mother in law and the father). However - they let us in probably 5 minutes after our new nephew was born.
Great response time, and they were very considerate. The staff was always helpful, and I am considering having my 3rd child here if my insurance allows.
PROS: great staff
My middle child was born at Mercy Southwest and the flown to Kaiser in Hollywood California. Once my daughter was sent back to Mercy Southwest the Dr. who was suppose to care for her left to go on vacation and left another Dr. in charge of her care. This Dr. had no idea whatsover on how to care for her. A couple days after my daughters arrival the nurses that had been on duty wanted to change her feeding tubes that was located in her stomache. The nurses could not get the new tube to fit so they placed the same tube back into her stomache causing her to contract e-coli. My daughter passed away a couple days later.
I do not rec. this hospital to anyone giving birth.
PROS: Great OBGYN staff
CONS: More education to the healthcare staff needed
Mercy Southwest Hospital has a great staff of nurses and a very good local reputation for quality of care. When it comes to their maternity services, however, it seems they might be a little overwhelmed with the number of women they need to serve. When having our daughter there, we received sufficient medical care, but as soon as she was born we felt pressured to get out of there. I was discharged with one leg still numb from my epidural. While the care was adequate, it certainly wasn't the personal service we received with our other children at different hospitals. Luckily there weren't any complications and everything turned out okay, but I still wouldn't recommend the hospital as a place to choose to have a baby if given the choice.
This is a wonderful hospital with a very competent ER. The staff there is very knowledgable and efficient at moving patients quickly and with respect. The wait is never long even through ER like most hospitals. Staff is caring and grounds along with building are very well maintained. If you have to be sick its the place to be.
