I came here with my company after a meeting at the yacht club. The chips and guac were decent and the margaritas were ok. I had a shrimp taco and it was so spicy it numbed my lips. I had to put them on a water glass to calm them down. I really like spicy food but this was WAY too much. Also their rice just plain sucks.

We showed up here on our first evening in Tiburon ready to experience the awesomeness of Guyamas. We were pumped! Margaritas were supposedly phenomenal.

Unfortunately, we waited 35 minutest for a glass of water. This is after requesting a server come to our table. We ended up walking out after telling the manager about it.

Here's the thing...the server said: I get no support around here. Yes, unprofessional to tell us however, I must ask...what kind of support was he getting that no one could bring us water or chips and salsa? The manager may need to rething how he sets up his servers to succeed.

As a former server/bartender, I had some sympathy for the guy but he was terribly rude.

The manager offered to give us a free meal but after receiving the service we did, I didn't feel comfortable staying...

We were so dissapointed.

THE NEW CORPORATE OWNERS HAVE TURNED THIS FORMER GOURMET ESTABLISHMENT INTO THE RUN-OF-THE-MILL CHAIN-MEX MENU WITH BORING SELECTIONS AND POOR, INATTENTIVE SERVICE. SAVE YOUR MONEY. IT'S REALLY A SHAME BECAUSE FOR MANY YEARS IT WAS AMONG THE BEST DINING ESTABLISHMENTS IN THE BAY AREA. WHY NOT TRY CHEVY'S INSTEAD? IT'S CHEAPER AND THE SAME QUALITY.

The tamales served to me were 90 percent corn meal. I expect better from an "Authentic" restaruant.

A beautiful day in Tiburon spoiled by the worst Mexican food ever! We shared the appetizer combo. It was like someone took Pillsbury crescent rolls and stuffed them with cheese. The tamales tasted like they had dog food as the filling. Avoid this place - even the great view isn't worth it.

We had a rough start here as after being sent upstairs by the hostess an 'upstairs hostess' asked if he 'had reservations...I wondered why she would ask us that if we were sent by up by downstairs hostess?? When we said no, she wanted to sit four of us and a 9 month old baby in a small 4-top table. The place was quiet and there were plenty of large tables . We asked for a larger table and she protested and then finally sat us at a 6 person round table. She claimed that 'someone was going to hurt her" for doing it. I guess we were special!
After that we did really enjoy the food ( the pork was fantastic) and you cannot beat the view of the water - excellent! The waiter was fine and we had a good meal.

Enjoy!

Coming from the East Bay the drive into Tiburon was well worth it, The food was excellent, and I have to say the previous reviews have not done this establishment justice, by any means. Everything about our experience was great. It was alittle drafty , but other then that a 4 star rating. Prompt service, and excellent food, I will definetly be returning .

I've been to Guaymas 3 times and was surprised when I just read all the negative reviews. I've had pretty consistently good food here and it's a great place to take out-of-towners (the ferry ride + the view makes for a nice little outing). I'm not going to say it's the best Mexican food I've ever had, but the tamales are very good (especially the pork ones) and the seafood and rice dishes are very tasty. And of course, I highly recommend the Guaymas margarita. The service could definitely use some improvement in terms of speed, but if you are going to Guaymas, you should go with a more relaxed mindset and not be in such a rush.

I kept telling my wife that we needed to take the Ferry from where we live (SF) to Tiburon and eat lunch at Guaymas. We packed up our day gear and headed down to the Wharf and jumped on the Ferry. I hadn't been to Guaymas since 1998 but the day was so nice I was sure we would have a good time.

When we got off the Ferry and stepped into Guaymas we were sat almost immediately. We sat at our table for ten minutes before a busser came over with some cold tortillas and tasty salsas. We had no water or napkins. Ten minutes later a waiter came over and apologized that nobody had taken our drink order. We ordered our drinks and ten minutes later we got up and walked out without our drinks ever being delivered. Thiry minutes and all we got was an apology for pretty much nothing. The guy who sat us said, "thank you" when we were leaving after I told him what happend. Wrong thing to say Dude. Next time say, "I'm sorry. Would you like to speak with a manager."

Something for Guaymas to consider. Most people take bad service personally. It's an easy way to lose sophisticated dining clientele when you have a terrible wait-staff. I will never take anyone to your restaurant and will strongly not-recommend your establishment.

We went to Guaymas yesterday to celebrate my fiancees birthday. I'd last been there in 2002 and remember the food as excellent. Well, something has changed. I found the food to be very bland, uninspiring and unrefined compared to when I last visited. The venue also looks more run down, with a clogged toilet and a broken soap dispenser in the restroom, and general wear and tear everywhere. It was also freezing cold, even though we were sitting inside.

On the plus side, I found the service to be very good, and the margaritas were outstanding. I highly recommend the Mexicana, which I found very refreshing.

My last visit has been the worse. I will never eat here again which is sad. The food quality has been declining. The pork was dry and bland. The shrimp were way too few and were also bland. The chips were greasy. As always the salsas are great and so is the view. The love of serving a great mexican plate has lost its way here. It used to be such a treat.

I've always enjoyed Guaymas since the 90s, and I try to bring out of town guests there to enjoy the view of San Francisco, the outdoor dining, and the portions of food. As with any restaurant, I'm sure that it has gone through phases. However, all the times that I've been there, I've never really had problems, like the ones listed in the recent reviews. I'm not sure what dishes the people have tried to say that it's bland. The ceviche is tasty, and so is the carnitas plate. My only complaints have been with the front host/hostess. The person there always seems harried. Overall, I would recommend to try at least once, especially for those seeking an experience outside of San Francisco. Make a day trip of it by taking the Ferry in from the City, exploring the Ark shops, and then having an early dinner before heading back!

I really want to love this place, but every time I go, they find a way to blow it badly. With co-workers in town, I decided to give it a try after 8 or 9 months. This time we had no trouble getting a dock-side table. Only 20 or so people on a Wednesday evening. For a change, we had a friendly waiter. But the tamales were still dry. Anything less than the top shelf Marguarita is a disapointment. We had a problem with our bill and the manager was uncooperative. Her excuse was that it was her first day! Seems funny since the previous reviewer thinks there was a new manager a few weeks ago.

Stop in for the view, but don't expect much more.

I went with a group of friends who touted the beautiful bay view (amazing) and the food (better than average). The waiter was gruff and did not bring extra plates or water, even when asked multiple times. Our plates were then removed from the table before we were finished eating. When I summoned the manager, he seemed very disinterested in the situation and half-heartedly apologized, but didn't do anything about the situation. I think Guaymas' new general manager had better focus on upgrading her support staff.

Our waitress could not have looked more bored or acted more disinterested in us. She wouldn't even make eye contact, staring out the window looking oh so bored while taking our order. Good luck getting any attention once your meal arrives. We had to ask several times for more chips & water. Fortunately, we did enjoy the food (carnitas, tamalas and fajitas), but left disappointed because of the service. We've had bad service before, but this was the first time we left a tip which reflected our true feelings. Hopefully, she'll get the message!

This restaurant is sort of a high class Mexican restaurant, it's not the same food you'd get in another Mexican restaurant. The food here was pretty good and if you're sitting out on the deck you have a great view. However, the food is a bit pricey and the service was mixed.

I've never eaten at a mexican restaurant before where I did not see burritos or carne asada on the menu. I was very, very disappointed in this establishment. My co-workers and I had lunch here on Dec 30 and although the view was beautiful, the food needed major improvement. I have eaten at many places in Mexico and I would have to say that Guaymas is not authentic at all. The food was very bland and the salsas served did not help. The tortillas had a very pasty taste to them and if it wasn't for my margarita, I would have choked. Sorry, but next time I'll buy Taco Bell in Mill Valley and bring it with me and enjoy the view without the bland and over-priced food.

Incredibly disappointing, extremely rude, ridiculously overpriced. Take my advice and don't eat here -- or if you do, be prepared to be talked down to by waiters are above being waiters. In the past this place was fine, but its gone downhill.

Bland fajitas -- was too much to ask the waiter to bring salsa or fresh tortillas --somehow he managed to make my mom apologize for asking (b-day lunch)! Crab-from-a-can enchiladas, mediocre mole and an expensive salmon special that resembled salmon jerky.

Can't argue that the view is nice, but the whole experience was so bad that you felt as though you were taken advantage of in exchange for a view. For the first time we all agreed that a miniscule tip was in order. You'd be better off going to a little bakery and eating lunch on the nearby grass. Same view without paying to be insulted.

My best friend decided to throw a surprised dinner for his girlfriend and I made a reservation for 8 at Guaymas, requesting specifically a table with the view of the bay. The gang arrived at the restaurant with no table set up. Then we were told to wait for 15 minutes and were seated a table inside the dining room with no view. Now this is the incredible part of the story. Two of our friends came somewhat late and had already had a bite. They just wanted to join us on this special birthday celebration. One of the seaters came up to us and said our friends who came late and didn't want to order dinner but desserts would have to sit at the bar. Now wasn't that ridiculous or what? Food is good but overpriced.

This has got to be the most bland mexican food I have ever eaten in my life! To be fair, we gave this restaurant 3 chances and each time we regretted our choice. God forbid you bring a child with you no matter how well behaved, since the snooty waitstaff will gladly stick you in the back every time, and then the only way to get their attention after they bring your food is to send up a signal flare. The beef fajitas were obviously cheap cuts of meat lacking any flavor other than a little salt, the tortillas had a pasty texture and paper-like flavor, luckily they did add a little spice to their salsa so we were able to choke down some of this very disappointing meal. With high prices and crappy food, I advise anyone to avoid this restaurant like Montezuma's Revenge!

Siting at my reserved table at Guyamas with my girlfiend, on my birthday, eating fried cheese (free with a drink during happy hour), I was asked by a manager to go inside to the (loud, boring and viewless) bar area. Happy hour food is prohibited outside, he told me. In an attempt to palliate his conerns about how much money I would spend, I offered to order my meal right away. He said no, and not wishing to be ordered around that evening, I left. As we waited at the adjacent ferry terminal, an angry manager approached an demanded that we each pay $5 for our fried cheese balls. I refused, at which point he said he would call the police. Fortunately, the ferry arrived, and we escaped this petty dictatorial entrepot, back to San Francisco.

For the price, the service should be much better.
Waited a long time to get our drinks and to get a refill on the chips. The food was unusually good, but rather high priced. If you go on a nice day, the view from the deck could be worth the price.

I love to bring out-of-towners to this perfect venue. The view is amazing and you can ride the ferry over, have a late lunch or early dinner watch the sunset and ferry home. The appetizers are great (suggest the duck cups) skip a main course and order lots of share plates. The one draw back are the margarita, although they are quite good...$12 for a Herradura margarita is over the top...order beer.

i hope this review finds it's way to anyone interested in eating at Guaymas. the food was far from authentic, lacked taste and is a sorry excuse for a Mexican restaurant. the view was great but then again it should for it's locaton. for all those tourist out there, find the nearest taqueria, buy a burrito or two and find a nice place to have a picnic and enjoy the view.

I posted a negative review on Guaymas, because I did not enjoy my experience, and Citysearch erased it. Citysearch seems to be bias/rigged/fixed. I don't think it is true that all reviews for Guaymas are positive; they delete negative ones. For tourists Guaymas is OK. But for locals with selective palates, there is much better Mexican in Marin!
