2 Stars: Alarm system problems and cost (by Audrey W.)

I had my alarm system installed in December of '07. In October of 2010 two of the sensors on two of the doors started to malfunction at the same time. The alarm didn't sound when these two doors opened. Now I am told that each of the sensors for the doors will cost $21.00 plus a service visit of $89.00. Just when it's time to renew the contract at a cost of $119.00 for the year. I was told that the life expectantsy is about 4-5 years on these sensors. These are only 3 years.

3 Stars: satisfactory (by Albert H.)

The installation was satisfactory. We had an issue with one of the sensors, but it was resolved in an appropriate way. Thank you. . . . . . . .

1 Stars: Irresponsible salesman, poor service (by by ventivent at Citysearch)

We purchased an ADT monitored wireless alarm system from Raymond. First of all, his pricing is completely arbitrary. I asked him if he could break down the equipment costs, services costs as an itemized invoice, and he said, "I don't do it that way." So basically, whatever he tells you to pay, you pay.

Next, he shows up at your house with a binder. In the binder are supposed "advertisements" showing how robbers can buy "bump keys" and other lock-picking devices for $49.99 on the internet. He uses these scare tactics to pressure you into buying an alarm system.

Third, I asked him if we could get an extra key fob for our system, and he charged us $95. The same key fob can be purchased online for $34. Our installer even offered to help me get it programmed, if I bought it myself.

Lastly, once our system went "live," we immediately began receiving calls from ADT telling us a "silent panic" signal was being set off. Multiple phone calls and and several e-mails to Raymond went with no response. After about 20 "trouble signals," I finally called ADT corporate. Even ADT couldn't get a hold of Raymond to help me fix my problem. I think he was waiting for the 90-day service period to expire, so he would no longer be responsible for repairs. After eight weeks of headaches, ADT finally sent another company to fix the system. The new company (River City Alarms) told me that the control panel was installed incorrectly, and was too far away from the sensors.

Bottom line, this guy is totally irresponsible. Once he takes your money, he could care less if your alarm is installed correctly. I have recommended to ADT that they terminate his contract.
