Salon By The Sea

This salon is very cool. They offer a wide variety of service from massages to Keratin Treatment. They are also on the cutting edge with extensions. I have had extensions for years and this is the first place i have found where it is reasonably priced and the extensions were the best I have ever had. I walked in for my extensions apt after already having a consultation with my fabulous stylist Jessica and I was ready to be there all day. I have gotten extensions before and I was in the chair for 8 hrs! But with Jessica and these new extensions i was only there for and hr and I had beautiful long flowing hair. Her placement of the extensions were extremely comfortable and made my hair look amazing. I will always come to Jessica and Salon by the Sea the energy in the salon was comforting, relaxing and how can you beat getting your hair done right by the water? 5 stars!!!

I've recently started going to Salon by the Sea and I'm so happy to have found it! I love the people and the ambiance, and I'm always so pleased with my hair when I leave. The prices are reasonable, and the stylists are friendly and professional. Now that I've found this salon, I can't imagine going anywhere else.

I've been going to Salon By the Sea for over 10 years. Everyone there is like family. Clients routinely get invited to salon functions to hang out with the stylists. The atmosphere is great. There is never a dull moment and all the trinkets around the salon that are for sale are fabulous. I would never go to another salon.

I'll agree with the other reviewer that the salon is located right next to the water in a nice setting however that nice atmosphere disappears once you enter that doors. The waiting area up front is very crammed and boutique style trying to push complete junk on you...

Now as for my hair treatment --- $160 WASTED ($60 alone for a new salon to repair) and my hair was damaged bad! It broke. :( The price is not reasonable because she quoted the price to me for several things and then didn't do them.

The wait was ridiculous. My appointment was double booked when I made it clear I needed a cut, condition, color, highlight, and a wedding style (basically a large block of time). Of course I was rushed because of the double booking and my hair suffered. I sat in the back with my head in the sink staring at the ceiling with a sore neck for WAY too long while she worked on the other client.

Now, my hair looked like a leopard. The highlights were placed half of an inch from my scalp so you could see each one... there was NO blending. I kept telling myself... it's not that bad... it's ok, its just a little messed up. However when my fiance who was there with me saw it... and I saw his reaction.. I KNEW I couldn't fool myself a second longer.

I don't know if the bleach sat long or what (it was very hot) but my hair was fried. I didn't even get the color that I asked for so my roots completely showed through. She gave me lowlights (she will push this on you for more $$$) so I had 4 different colors on my head (roots, highlights, lowlights, and original color). -I am NOT kidding.

Worst of all the highlights were coppery, way too many were places so the color wasn't at all natural looking. I was one big coppery frizzy mess.

I don't think one bit of conditioner touched my hair... so what did I pay for?

I asked for a short amount to be cut and then layered for a healthy look and maybe my chair was crooked cause my hair sure was cut that way. There was no layer although she lifted my hair to attempt it... Who knows what happened. She just couldn't do it.

I was trying her out for my wedding stylist and thank goodness I tried her out first. She CAN NOT style hair (or color.. or cut). Later she said it was an impossible style. lol (I had a picture so some stylist was able to accomplish it.) I was hair sprayed way too much with a very sticky hairspray, and a billion bobby pins were placed (half were loose I might add) when I had ONLY a slight uplift in the front.

I contacted her by email, very calm and professional, to tell her how dissatisfied I was and her exact words.... "you left with better hair than that mess you came in with". Wow... she's sure a nice one huh? She needs to take a professional business class... cause she has no professionalism whatsoever. She had excuses for everything but the truth is... I walked out of that salon extremely unhappy with ugly, damaged hair and she could care less about fixing what she caused.

Everyone kept looking at me... I kept thinking she was just having trouble and she would get to it... then she said... ok.. all done. I was like... you're serious? I kept telling her to fix this, whats this, this is not right, what happened... She had another client waiting for my chair so I was quickly ushered to pay and leave after a few quick failed attempts to calm the frizz she caused.

Take my word for what it is.... but now you know there is that chance she could ruin your hair too. Really think about it before you see this woman.. I wish I had. Remember her name -- Colleen... and just pass if you value your hair at all. Thankfully a JcPenny Salon was open on a Sunday and fixed my hair... Get that.. a JcPenny salon was better than this salon.

Whatever your decision ----good luck. You might just need it.

The atmosphere is so lovely, right on the water. The parking is easy and the staff is super friendly. I am so happy to have found this place. The stylists don't gripe about each other (at least they keep it away from the clients!) The price reflects a norm in LB salons as far as I can tell,and the atmosphere is the deal-breaker!
