I wish I lived closer to Ventura so I could go back for Happy Hour.I don't see how you could find a better bargain in Ventura. We ran across Eric Ericsson's by chance as we walked along the pier, so we thought we'd give it a try. We saw the specials board offering fish and chips for $5, well drinks for $3 or $4, and draft beer for $2 during Happy Hour. Too good to be true? Does this only apply to Bud Lite and crummy fish? No, this was a real deal.Three orders of beer-battered fish (3 pieces per order) and chips, a cup of clam chowder, 3 soft drinks, and two Sierra Nevada ales came to only $41.50 (including a $10 tip). Our server, Hayley, brought the drinks quickly and asked for patience with the food as there was only one cook for 30+ tables upstairs. She brought bread for the kids to keep them happy, though. The fish was better than the much more expensive panko-encrusted mahi mahi I had at another restaurant the following night (maybe that speaks more to my plebeian tastes than to the quality of the fish). To top off the good food at a great price was a wonderful location. We sat in the southwest corner where we had a clear view of the ocean and pier (despite the cloudy day). The windows on the veranda protected us from the cold wind and the heaters kept us nice and warm. Maybe this isn't a place to impress a date with as the plastic tables and chairs announce it's a casual dining place, but it's a wonderful place for family and friends to gather. If you're cruising through Ventura during Happy Hour, Eric Ericsson's is THE place to go. Five stars, two thumbs up, and all that.

It's on the beach! At the pier! Great location and view. Except when you walk in there's flies. It's not gross, but there's always flies. I guess it's the beach so its normal? I've taken outta town family there and I don't think they really liked it. It's loud and for the price, view, which set up the expectation, they were unimpressed. If it was off the beach it wouldn't be so bad, but that's what makes this place.

Pros: Ocean view

Cons: So average

Located on the pier in Ventura, with large selection of fresh fish and other California cuisine. My favorite is the Fish & Chips in the spicy jalapeno batter. Their fish soup is also delicious.

This place is located on the Ventura pier. It is a gorgeous view! It's worth it just to go eat a nice meal on the pier. It's not the most amazing food I've ever had, and it's definitely expensive. I tried some shrimp, and it was average. Great date spot, and a favorite Ventura joint.

You cant find a better location than Eric Ericsson's. Located on Ventura Pier, you can grub on some of the best seafood around. Great place to go on a date, especially if you can eat seafood!

The service was bad and it was overpriced for what you got. We waited for way to long (not even that busy) and when the food arrived we were very disapointed! I ordered Shrimp Bruschetta, what i got was 5 little shrimp, 1 melba toast cracker and a pile of chopped up tomato. my friend ordered fish and chips, the fish was ok but the "chips" were 3 small wedges of potato burnt to a crisp. the reason for the wait was...they ran out of shrimp, at a seafood place on the pier!? the drinks were overpriced and tasted like they didn't put any alcohol in them. I will never go back.

Pros: the view

Cons: everything else

.

I've been going to Eric Ericsson's for the view and overpriced drinks for years. Since it's the only restaurant on the pier, there's not much choice. Their food is mediocre and not the freshest, the waitstaff is pretty terrible, and their bar is limited and expensive. If you just want to look at the view and have some pricey cocktails it's great! If good seafood is what you're looking for, try another place...

Pros: Great View if you go upstairs and OUTSIDE

Cons: Not great food or service, badly done outdoor patio, bad waitstaff

.

Did not like the service. This restaurant needs to schedule more staff for busier hours. Service was slow and the server was frustrated with having to serve many tables at the same time. The server did manage to appear pleasant.

We love Eric Ericsson's for the great food, wonderful service and fun atmosphere. The view is nice, especially at sunset. In the summer, sit out on the patio! I love to take out-of-town guests as we always have a great time - we've never been rushed to get out, either. You're able to spend time to talk and laugh.

The crab-stuffed peppers are my all time favorite and I rarely order much else anymore. But, everything I have ordered has been perfectly cooked and delicious. Oh, and they make one of the best Bloody Mary's! With a jumbo shrimp, cannonball olives and celery, it's like getting an appetizer with your drink (hint: order it with Stoli Peppar for an extra kick)! If you have to wait, squeeze into the bar and have a drink to relax...it'll make your wait just fly!

Pros: Friendly Service, Good Food, Good Bar

Cons: Sometimes Crowded

I ate here about 5 years ago - It was extremely memorable, the service was excellent, the food was excellent and the price was fair for the quality/service. The other reviewer may have had "other" problems? The reason I am back here is because we will be in the area again in 2 weeks and I can't wait to go back again - I am still craving the clam bake. I have eaten seafood all over the U.S., Mexico and Europe and this ranks in the top 5 in my book.

Pros: Clam Bake, Service, Ambience

Cons: , none, none

This restaurant has the most terrible service I have ever seen. When you are spending about 60$ for dinner for 2, you come to expect great service, because the other aspects, food here is at best average, but ridiculously expensive. Its true that it overlooks a not so impressive beach and pier, but thats no reason to just give up on customer service. It was so horrible, the waiter would walk by us not even looking at us, not realizing we were out of drinks for about 30 mins, and response to requests is way less than hospitable. It wasnt just us, there was a whole bunch of people terribly upset. If you like to watch the sunsets, piers, go to the ventura pier and then go to the Downtown area to eat. You will at least get good service.
