.

Unfortunately, the book bag closed on May 30, 2009. They're out of business... try the Bookaneer or Oddfellow's Books which is in Simi Valley. Bookaner is on T.O. Blvd. Oddfellow's Books is on Eileen St. which crosses Tapo St. They're right behind the Thrify Gas Station.

I found Oddfellow's Books just recently when checking up on the Book Bag. Oddfellow's Books business cards were left on the Book Bag door like a sign from heaven... found the staff personable and caring. They have a pleasant atmosphere and good seating to enjoy the books before purchases. I would highly recommend seeking Oddfellow's out... it's worth the trip.

Visiting this book store is even better when you learn that the shop helps so many others.

Books can change lives. According to the Ventura Valley Star, "[The Book Bag] dubbed their inmate book program "Escape through books" and said they believe the company of a good book can help reduce a sense of hopelessness that contributes to anti-social behavior".

Inmates must pay the postage for the donated books. That is impossible for many because prisons overcrowding means there are far too few jobs to go around. Everyone needs work, and the inmates want even the most menial job. Maybe we can send them a little money to help pay postage. I hope it is ok to suggest that in a review. I have no connection whatsoever with the Book Bag, but I certainly admire it.

Pros: Great buys! Fun shopping!

Rarely have I seen a used book store or used books of such a pristine quality. You will not find either dust or clutter here and the books hardly even look used.

Everything is neatly categorized, easy to find and cheap. The store has a real cozy feel to it and the employees are really friendly and knowledgeable.

It is a nonprofit book store meaning that you can donate your used books to the store and that all proceeds go towards improving literacy in the local community.

This store is always well worth your visit, but beware you might easily become a regular at this place!

PROS: Always well worth your visit!!
CONS: N/A
