Our website is: www.diegosumbrella.com 111 Minna is an art gallery/bar/nightclub. We've been here 10 years, serving up a unique atmosphere in which to enjoy art, music, film, drinks, and whatever else happens to be the celebration or occasion of the day or night. We are in the business of Art & Leisure.

Editorial by Citysearch

A red door (and no sign) marks the entrance of this slightly hidden (but no secret) spot. The large, industrial space is offset by two rooms: one for dancing, with a giant dragonfly hanging from the ceiling; the other more casual, with sofas and ottomans. Both feature bars, DJ stations, hardwood floors and are rife with paintings, photographs and art installations. The concrete walls give off a city-warehouse feel, while the crowd is the definition of urban-intellectual cool.

Key Points

  • Diego's Umbrella with guests
  • CD Release Party- Fri 2/24
  • Local Art to be displayed

The Inside Scoop

  1. The Extras - Although it doesn't fancy itself an Internet cafe, there are several free-of-charge iMacs for public use on the lounge side.
  2. When to Go - Call ahead for hours as 111 Minna hosts numerous private parties each week.
  3. Save Money - Get $1 off all drinks during happy hour (Tue-Sat, 5pm-7pm).
  4. Know Before You Go - Many nights feature a cover charge. On Wednesday and Saturday, expect to pay $5-$10 cover.

i've only been here for clubs and such. is a pretty small venue, but a lot bigger than you would expect from seeing only the outside. there are two different rooms and when i went one dj in each. there is also art work on the wall that is pretty interesting to look at. its changes all the time so there is always something to talk about.

111 Minna hosts the very first CLUB 1992 this Saturday!

As 111 Minna is one of Sf's HOT night life spots I am very proud to be introducing it's new great dance night happening THIS Saturday July 11th!

CLUB 1992

I know what you're thinking, Finally! A NEW DANCE PARTY in SF! The 90?s are in! Come back when JTT ruled pop culture, Zach & Kelly couldn't stay broken up & slap-bracelets were at the pinnacle of fashion. Get down with two rooms playing strictly 90's. Bust out your Cabbage Patch in the Hip-Hop and R&B room and sing along to your pop dance favs in the TRL Room! All 90?s, All Dance, All Fun!

Featuring: Jeffrey Paradise, Richie Panic, Vin Sol, Phillie Ocean, AlexanderSpit, a Fashion Show by The Good Shop, L.OW. SF, Parker Day, Ava Berlin & Hot Tub

Pros: best 90's hip hop & TRL Classics

Ratings_icons This is an awesome venue! And no, the bartenders are NOT rude!

Normally I go to 111 Minna on their Wednesday night Happy Hour from 5:30 pm - 10 pm and I have to say, the crowd here is generally pretty chill compared to most other bars/clubs in SF. For those who say 111 Minna is too superficial, you haven't been to the Bubble Lounge, the North Beach bar scene or even the Marina. Clubs around there are FILLED with yuppies and superficial people. 111 Minna, on the other hand, has a combination of everything, from the enterpreneurs to art students at Academy of Art and the like art schools to the indie crowd to people who work in the financial district to oddball types to people who like to dance in general.

I was reading reviews on this site and I must say, that on the Qool Happy Hour on Wednesdays, there is NO dress code whatsoever. You can even wear sneakers and no one will mind. Plus, a $5.00 cover charge is pretty sweet.

For the reviewer before me who said the bartenders are rude, let me put it this way... They are among some of the coolest bartenders I've met. One time I was waiting for more than 15 minutes for a drink and one of the bartenders apologized for having me wait so long to order something, that he asked me to pay just $4.00 instead of the $8.00 I would have paid for the ticket (probably was a Long Island or Scotch).

One of the specialities of 111 Minna is that on its Wednesday happy hour, some of the best electronica music is played. From DJ Spesh to Jerry Bonham (on occasion) to DJ Hoj, the progressive house music that's spun here is AWESOME.

Plus, going to Qool Happy Hour on Wednesdays, there's usually a pretty decent crowd of women so the chances meeting a single woman at 111 Minna are greater than the Bubble Lounge or the Marina bars.

One last comment... The Qool Group that puts on the music at 111 Minna, they were there at the September '06 Love Parade. Therefore, if you liked the Love Parade, you'll love the crowd at 111 Minna.

Pros: Great social scene, easy to walk to if taking BART

Cons: Any superficial person who enters 111 Minna

Ratings_icons cool place with one exception

as a club/bar, this place is pretty cool. It is spacious, has plenty of seating if you go at a reasonable time, cool modern-artsy vibe, trendy & goodlooking people, and potent drinks. The only drawback is that the bartenders are not very friendly and take forever to serve you...this is coming from a 20 something girl.

Pros: spacious, cool people, good music

Cons: bartenders and staff are not friendly, attentive

Ratings_icons Best place on a Wednesday

sanzalone

I love this place and the party on Wednesday from 5-10. Best music, cool staff and lots of interesting people. I'd rather go here at 6pm on a Wednesday than go out on a Friday night.

Pros: great music, cool art, nice staff

Ratings_icons Classic SF!!!!

sweetpeabythesea

Ive been going to 111 for the last 10yrs. Cant say enough good stuff about the place. It's been a hub of the art and music scene in SF since before I started going. They host all sorts of events: films, art openings, djs, bands, you name it. Its constantly changing, and different every night of the week. Some nights are off the hook, and other nights are totally chill. If you show up on a packed night and it can be hard to get a drink Other nights are mellow and you can visit with the staff, who have been there for YEARS. (Getting to know the staff on slower nights can make it easier to get a drink when its packed- shhhhh!!! The ONE jerk that WORKED there is GONE!) Check their website or call to see if the vibe du jour is what youre looking for...

Pros: staff, clientelle, environment

Cons: sometimes unpredictab, sometimes busy, sometimes quiet

I've been walking past this place for years thinking it was a private club. It isn't... it's a great find!

Pros: social vibe, sound prices, kiiller space

Cons: strong cocktails, my pang for more

111 Minna could possibly be the worst bar in San Francisco. My night there consisted of a long line at the door, rude workers, snobby people who think they are fashionable, and a ridiculously high cover. This bar was TOO crowded- and in combination with the lack of bar tenders- my party waited 40 minutes to get a drink. A special thanks to the coat check jerk who wouldnt let me back in after I put my foot outside for a split second even though all my friends were still inside. The moral of this story-- I will not be going back to 111 Minna- EVER.

Ratings_icons Too bad about the crowd

mercury613

Great space... and they have some great DJs spinning from time to time. But the last time I was there, the crowd was full of sunglasses-at-night frat boys and their (very) drunk female companions. What a shame.

San_Francisco_Foodie

This is one of the best clubs you will find in SF. If you love art and eclectic music, this place is for you. They have great House music and Fridays tend to be the best day to go.

Highly recommended for those who need a change from the drudgery of club life. The Long Island Ice Teas are the best I've ever had!

Pros: Long Island Iced Tea

This spot is pretty tight. The space is great and the music even better. A must see after work.

Ratings_icons REDICULOUS LINE & PEOPLE!

AnnieChang79

This club used to be good, last year! I liked it when it was more like a casual after work bar, but now it seems like more sleaze balls are showing up! The wait outside the door sucks even worse. They make you wait outside for about an hour and a half! When we went, I got in right away because I'm a girl and the guy in the front just pulled me in, but the rest of my guy friends didn't get in until another 1 1/2 hour later! I was inside waiting for them forever, we were all so pissed! I recommend having something warm to wear if you get there at 5:30 or later. The people who work at the club look like they've got some family issues or something too... You can see for yourself when u go!

Pros: GOOD LAUGH, GOOD AFTERWORK LOCAL

Cons: BAD PARKING, CROWDED, EXPENSIVE

Ratings_icons nice redo, nice staff, crowd is 50/50

kennyd

When 111 Minna first opened it was Cool/Qool. Cool crowd, small space, good djs. Then the Marina found out about it. It got kind of bad. Then they expanded. And started serving liquor (woohoo).

the space is a nice one. the staff is nice. and for the most part the djs are good.

the crowd can still be iffy. sometimes it's a "cool" crowd, other times very marina/bridge & tunnel.

Pros: staff, music, space

Cons: sometimes the crowd

Great Ambiance! I started off just admiring the art and the design of the venue while enjoying the good mood. By the end of the night the DJ took control and I found myself on the stage with some other people. A very cool place to start out chill and end on high note.

Pros: good parking, plent of room, comfortable

Very spacious and airy...love places I can hang and talk to people without being pushed around the room. There's usually a decent crowd, too. Bartenders can use a little lesson in service, though.

Pros: good space

Cons: bartenders

Ratings_icons Pretty good... but still not the best...

ashermartin

I checked out this place for the first time on a Wed. night.. it was Ok... I met a lot of nice people... but the only problem is that it seemed OVERLY trendy... people didn't really care about the artwork there... mainly just hookin' up... that's ok... cuz my friend did... not bad rock star...

Pretty cool formerly "underground" spot. It might be getting too big for it's own good though.

Pros: Nice Art

Cons: Getting too "trendy"

Ratings_icons Only Cool if You're a Qoolio

CherryBomb

I have very, very mixed feelings about this place. Yes, I'm one of those who has been going for years, back when it was just a tiny room with a huge dragonfly and no line. I still go for the music, the location, and the Chimay even tho it's now a pretentious, cheesy scene thanks to all the Financial District/Marina dorks in Dockers who seem to have discovered it so late in the game. But, I have a Qool card, and no, I'm not friends with any of the staff..I just got lucky. If I had to wait in that line, I'd probably never go again.

Pros: beautiful people, Chimay, cool art

Cons: dorks in suits, bimbos in tube tops, pretentious staff

Ratings_icons Minna it use to be.

Coalrum

As a regular to 111 Minna on many, many happy hour sprees, I have to say I am extremely disappointed with its recent transformation. From a chic afterwork hangout it's turned into a sleazy pick up spot for the desparate and the under-dressed!

Ratings_icons A classy venue

tdaya

I've had some great times at 111 minna, firstly because of the type of parties that are put on here, and also because it serves the feeling of being at a clb as well as being at a gallery..of sorts. Too bad Ubiquity doesn't have parties here, but DJ Said's parties are very fun, as well as "Dhamaal". You share time dancing on various theme nights, to looking at the current art exhibition in the next room. Good bar as well.

Ratings_icons swank ; inviting to your senses

bigmango

I remember 111 Minna when is it just the room with the big dragonfly. It was very underground; most people didn't know about. Now it's one of current flavor of cool places to hang out. Wednesday after work hours is the cool thing to do. I'm glad they only charge $5 for cover... or free if you know or sleep with the DJ.. in any case. the women are hot. Most of them are from the east bay or peninsula who work in the city. In any... it's ok. ogle and enjoe

Pros: women, the up and coming art, nice location

Cons: the wait in line, attitude from ppl

Ratings_icons please, a dress code.

QQQ

Have to give this place a big zero when the oversized gorillas struggled to put together mono-syllables to form the words "you don't got the dress code." When did Minna starting enforcing a dress code. I would expect something cheezy like this from the Bubble Lounge or some other plastic joint, not from a place where the vibe WAS good, the drinks drinkable, and the music worth listening to. The operative word is "was".

Ratings_icons Worthwhile on Wednesdays!!

mbar5sam

My first visit to 111 Minna was on a Friday. Some way too unique "fashion designer" was showcasing her "art". The crowd was very odd and was hesitant to never return, although the bar it self was very nice. I did return on a Wednesday and I must say the crowd was amazing. It was professionals getting some drinks after work and I must say... nothing better than some hotties in suits. 111 Minna is excellent on Wednesdays and I enjoy spending them there!

Too bad about the popularity of this place -- it gets some of the best DJ talent around. I'd like to know why SF programs the best stuff in its most odious, crushed-in places -- I'll never see my heroes if they're at Ruby Skye, Sno-Drift, 1015 Folsom -- why the hell would I go to those crowded dorkholes and try to get my groove on? I realize there's no possibility of actual warehouse parties here, but promoters need to show respect. At least Minna has a great atmosphere, even if I have to elbow cocktail dresses out of my way to dance.
