I love Sam's store. It's definitely a unique little shop with all kinds of items and alcohol available. It's especially useful to international students or locals like me who need that household item or knick-knack that you'd have to get on the 5 or 805 for and drive 10 miles to find. Sam and his employees are very polite and friendly and like to chat and give advice if you're so inclined. As for the review on here about the credit card, I think it's crap. I've cancelled a credit purchase there before and they ask you whether you want a receipt or not. They will charge you a credit card tax but every store does, its just that not every store is honest enough to tell you there is one. Besides, its only 50 cents and there's an atm. I love to get my smokes and wine here and I recommend it to everyone in the area!

Simply put, I do not believe the guy below me and you should not take his advice. Since when does it make sense to hand over your card before confirming the total for your purchases? This place has been in Little Italy for as long as I can remember, (at least a couple decades) the owner is a good guy and I've always been treated well here.

The shop itself is small but it's got character and good variety. My favorite thing about this place is its interesting selection of liquors, it's definitely more unique and higher quality than the mostly bottom shelf garbage you'd find at your local drug store. I would definitely recommend this place and if you're ever in the area, I suggest you come by and check it out yourself.

I TRIED to purchase six bottles of wine from the store. Each bottle was clearly marked $9.00. The terse register person rang up the sale on his cash register. I gave him my credit card. The credit card charge was almost $75.00. I told him something was wrong with the transaction. The math did not work. I asked to see the cash register receipt. He refused. I asserted once again that 6 x 9 does not equal 75. He became upset. I told him to cancel the transaction. He said he could not and would not. I refused to sign the credit card transaction. I left without the wine. However he did process the credit card. This was a 100% scam.No ethics here.
