Awful place. The receptionist is rude, Amanda I believe her name is, and they do procedures without talking to you. Went in there to have my cat looked at because she had an abscess on her lip/face. Came in at 8:45am and they told me there was no one that could look at her right now and to just leave her there and come back at 10:00am when my dog had an appointment. I come back at 10 with my dog and when it comes time to pay its over $500. Apparently they had drained the abscess without discussing it with me first, charged me a boarding fee, and an emergency fee all without telling me the fees I would be paying up front. When I talked to the receptionist about how ridiculous the 'boarding fee' and 'emergency fee' was she got really rude with me. Started saying how most of their customers care more about their animals than they do money! Honestly I am taken aback with how rude that comment was because who would, in this economy, act like money isn't a big deal. Eventually after arguing with the receptionist that they have to tell you before they do anything with your animal she said "That is it! I'm going to tell the doctor to refuse to see you anymore!" They also seem to want to do unnecessary procedures just to make more money.

In short, they are rude and do not notify you when they are going to do procedures. Will never come back again. I recommend you do not either.

I have always had the best expierence with Midtown Animal Hospital! Once my cat had gotten the string from his play toy tied so tightly around his toes that I couldn't get it undone. He was in great distress. When I took him in they rushed him right in to the vet and removed the string, and didn't even charge me! I will always take my pets to Midtown!

I just moved from out of state and have never experienced better care for my dog. She has Cushing's Syndrome and they quickly discovered that she had developed Addison's Disease due to overmedication from my previous vet. They went to the effort of calling me the first weekend to inquire about the results of the new medication. Although they are 25 miles away I will use them every time. Absolutely the perfect care for an older ill dog.

Sad they have never been personal with me about my pet. Never ask me how by pets doing in 15yrs. They might as well be selling copy machines! I The service has been ok over the years, but they have always lacked that personal vet clinic to person/pet relationship.

I brought my old lady in, who was experiencing troubled breathing, and fainting episodes. Dr. Dinger saw us, and went through a series of tests, and took the time to explain everything to me. He made a referral to a great cardiologist, and now I can honestly say her quality of life has increased ten fold.

I will be honest, it has cost me quite a bit, but it really is worth it when my dog no longer has to wake up in the middle of the night because she can't breathe, and that she can actually enjoy a walk longer than 10 minutes long without difficulty.

Fabulous all around... everyone here has a great attitude... and they always provide great care for my cats. I would highly recommend them to anyone!

Not everyone is going to be happy all the time, so check it out for yourself instead of basing your opinions on the negative reviews below, it might be a good fit for you but not them... those things happen.

I was referred by a friend that took her dog Kaymen here. I had to come in with my friend and Kaymen because she had injured herself while I was watching her. They were so sweet and took such good care of her. 6 mo+ later when I adopted a kitty I established care with them. Then I adopted one more kitty and now take both of my cats to them. The wait may be a little lengthy on the phone but it is a result of having their undivided attn. They are compassionate and extremely kind. I love taking my cats here because I know I receive the reassurance and empathy from them as well as great care for my animals.

I first brought my adopted dog there just because they were close to my home & have been pleasantly surprised by how caring & inexpensive their veterinary services are. If you love your pet & are on a budget, this is the perfect place. They also do Saturday appt's that makes it very convenient for people that work during the week.

Nothing but praise for Midtown Animal Hospital. The receptionist's are wonderful-individual attention, learn to know your face and your animals, and genuinely care about pets. One of the receptionist even drove a prescription out to my house for me on her way home! The vets are experienced, careful, and take the time to make sure they answer every question. Rates are very fair, and they have even allowed me to make payments on expensive operations. I trust them all to take care of all my pets as well as the animals I care for at my work. Moved out to Carmichael and still make the trek to be sure I get quality, personalized service from people who love pets and are dedicated to making sure yours are well cared for.

Have had them as primary vets for four years. Have two cats, one with a serious chronic health condition. Very caring, loving staff. Reception can be a challenge if they are very busy because they pay a lot of individual attention to each client and go out of their way for you, including same day emergency appointments (I'd rather they took good care of my cats, then me. Afterall, they are a vet clinic, not a people clinic.) They have inexpensive rates, but are not "cheap". They don't suggest a lot of expensive extras. They are pretty no-frills. Moved out of Sac up to Folsom and still make the trip down to Midtown because they are great. They know me, my cats, and seem to generally care.

Unfortunately, we had to put my 17 year old kitty down recently. She had been seen at this hospital a couple of times and the care she received was always good. The staff was very kind and compassionate from the moment I made the appointment to put her to sleep. When we came in that day, we were shortly escorted to a quiet room. The vet and cet's assistant were very, very kind and allowed us all of the time we needed for our private goodbyes. My kitty's passing was quiet, seemed painless and she went with dignity and grace. It made a very difficult time a little bit easier to deal with. Much to my surprise we later received a condolence card from the vet. I would recommend this place to any one.

We took our dog here for 15 years and they were very caring especially when she got to the "old dog" stage. The vets, techs and counter people have always been friendly, even for those "must get in today" situations. There are many vets in Sacramento and this is the place we choose to go!

I feel better after reading the other reviews. I was hoping to find a vet hospital that was less expensive than my one in Davis, so I decided to try this place. Their prices seemed more in line with my budget. My small dog needed his annual booster and a rabies vaccine. When I showed up for my appointment, the receptionist couldn't have been more rude. I told her who I was and she promptly told me to sit down, and she would be with me when she could. No greeting, no smile, but plenty of attitude. If I'm patronizing a business, I expect to be greeted, and treated nicely. After all, I'm paying them. The tech seemed sedated, and she looked rough. I never felt welcomed there, and I almost walked out before ever seeing the vet, who was very talkative, but in a nice way. And don't you hate it when you say thank-you, but they never say it back? I'm going back to my high-priced vet in Davis, at least they're nice there.

If you like those restaurants that have waitstaff who are trained to be mean to you, you will love this hospital! The staff is rude and are more than willing to see you off. I should have listened to a Vet friend's advise and not risked it! I had an appointment scheduled one afternoon made after my cat had 3 seizures. When I got there, they had no record of an appointment and coldly told me to go elsewhere. A few months later my cat was scheduled for surgery. After giving my cat antibiotics for 3 days, I showed up only to have the staff refuse to see my cat because they didn't have the appropriate paperwork. One Vet was visibly upset when I had questions about my cat's care - questions provided to me by my friend who is a vet. I am sorry I waited as long as I did to find another Vet. Try Sac Animal Hospital or UC Davis.

This place was such a disappointment. The only good thing I have to say about this place is that all of their techs that we've dealt with are wonderful and caring. The receptionist was the worst I've ever encountered and she gave me a completely wrong price quote over the phone even though she knew what we were getting done. Then when I tried asking her why the cost was so high compared to her quote, she tried to sell me expensive products instead of answer me! Also, within twenty minutes of me (and only me) sitting in the lobby, she'd forgotten who I was and that she'd already taken care of me. And I didn't care for the vet very much either. She treated me like I didn't know anything, and told my cat that I thought it was mean even though I never even said anything like that! Plus, neither the vet nor the receptionist seemed to care that they weren't saying my pet's name correctly- small issue, but still says something about them I think. Except for the techs, I would definitely not recommend it.

Front desk people are very inconsiderate and unprofessional. I always hear them gabbing about their social life and ignoring customers. Vets are VERY nice, but they are so busy, you really have to fight for their attention. This is the cheapest place around, though, so I guess you get what you pay for. I agree it is a good place for routine stuff, but if you want a dialogue with your vet (which you will want if your poor little baby had a chronic issue) you should go somewhere else. No one really takes the time to make sure your concerns are taken care of.

The strongest part of this practice is their experienced, compassionate techs. Their services are reasonably priced, and they offer a good range of nutritional products for sale. However, this is an extremely busy hospital. The vets are not able to be as responsive and personal as we wished, and even after being a patient for several years, our vet never acknowledged us in the waiting room with even a nod. The floors are unfortunately very slippery, and my old dog fell on her hips trying to get to the exam room on three occasions. My suggestion of rubber mats fell on deaf ears. The instructions before and after ACL surgery felt like a rehearsed monologue, and I had to interrupt to ask questions. There was a better ACL option available than the one we got, but I learned this after the fact from another vet. Overall I would call this a good clinic for vaccinations or possibly emergency services.

We took one of our 2 cats to this animal hospital to get the usual male fixing. This place truly cares about their patients. Even though they probably do several neuterings a day they treat each case special and are very accomodating to each cat. My cat is friendly so it wasn't an issue getting him to cooperate (unlike my other cat who is very careful about who he lets mess with him). This place keeps to their appointments and I was in and out within 90 minutes.

The is the best veterinarian in all of Sacramento area. I took my puppies there and they were treated so well from the moment I walked into the door. Not only that but the vets knowledge and obvious compassion for animals was very affirming. They don't try to oversell patients on products and even happy to give free advice over the phone.

PROS: Great customer service, awesome expertise, free advise.
CONS: You have to pay upfront for all services (no billing)

I took my cat into Midtown Animal Hospital for a small emergency, and I found them to be very helpful, compassionate, and reasonable. Their after-hours service is pretty exceptional; they stay open fairly late and have found some way to accommodate last-minute appointments with relative ease. I had a good experience both with the techs and the vets, and my cat did well, too! I was here on an extended vacation, and my cat had to come with me That's why I wasn't familiar with this place to begin with. But I am so glad I chose this place. I recommend Midtown Animal Hospital to anyone who needs a vet (or rather animals, that is, LOL)
