Feb. 2015...and Ciao Bella has reopened after a long 5 year hiatus. They are as awesome as ever. However, they are in a new location - in the old Gottschalks plaza off Oakdale Rd. Same great ambiance and food.

This is an intimate place just a street away from the busy Down Town Modesto. They offer a variety of dishes traditional for an Italian restaurant: ckicken marsala, veal piccata, portabella ravioli with choice of alfredo, marinara, bolonese, or pesto sauce, eggplant parmigiana, prawn scampi. But, most importantly they always have fresh seafood!!! If you ever visit them make sure and ask about the specials - the Halibut stuffed with prawns and crab meat, the Jumbo Prawns with butter-garlic sauce, Sole with Piccata sauce, and the Seafood pasta with a whole mountain of delishous treats of the sea!!!!!

The place is very tiny with up stair seating for intimacy. The food was pretty good and the prices were reasonable. I went with a big group and we had excellent service. Good place for italian food.

The work week had ended and a friend and myself thought it time to try Ciao Bella. The restaurant is quiet with an old fashioned feel. We began with the Calimari appetizer and we were plesantly surprised! Many establishments prepare gooey and greasy fare. Ours was crisp, flavorful and we got a kick out of it. The salads were somewhat typical but prepared well with a solid Bleu cheese. From there we ordered steaks. We were not sure of our decision. The restaurant is known for their Italian dishes and they were tempting! That night they were featuring a Filet Mignon with Bleu cheese crumbles and sauteed mushrooms. The Filet was ordered well done, which usually can be disasterous. To my surprise the filet was well done and fork tender and was accompanied with mashed potatoes and baked green beans. Everything was well seasoned with fresh garlic and I believe this was the key.The best steak I have had in decades, tender, juicy and flavorful! The service was prompt and helpful. Ciao Bella is still an uncovered gem in downtown Modesto. Check it out!

Ciao Bella is a great little restaurant in downtown Modesto. If you like calamari, then you have to try the stuffed calamari. It is great! The services is great, the prices are great and it is not too noisy.
