I would find another location to have your vehicle repaired. The facility has missed the class Mechanics 101 and will mislead you or your wife into getting unneeded repairs when they know the problem is much more serious in order to get as much money from you as possible. This seems to the with almost all businesses these days. I spent the first 15 years as a mechanic and find if hard to believe how many mechanics don't know the basics of mechanics. My wife was recently taken advantage of due to a miss firing cylinder. The mechanics were unwilling to give the truth, they would rather get as much money from you as possible and never give the full picture. In every repair manual there is a page that explains what your spark plug is saying about your engine. A plug that has normal use should be cleaned and reinstalled as it is working perfectly and changing will not make a difference. A plug with heavy oil deposits is usually caused by bad rings on the piston or bad valve stem seals, both of these issues can't be resolved by adding cleaning solutions to our engine oil. The process for further troubleshooting would be a compression test. With all plugs removed a dry test should be performed, the compression of each cylinder should be recorded. You look for low compression or large differences between cylinders. The next step is to perform a wet compression test on the cylinders with low compression reading, in this test you squirt oil into the cylinder one at a time and perform the test once again. With a squirt can you add 3 squirts into the cylinder and perform the compression check again. If the compression goes up you have bad rings, if the compression stays about the same you need valve work. This has not changed since the very first combustion engine was created. The computer in your new car can't tell you about mechanical failures within the engine, you need mechanics 101 to understand what the issue truly is. Now days the mechanics are more interested getting your money rather than telling you your real problem. They are also unable to tell you this information is a language you understand " your computer is show code xxx ". What does xxx mean, I don't think they know and telling you the true meaning might lead to you not getting any work performed. This means no money for them, what is important, not you or your problem just their bottom line.

Good luck finding a facility that cares about the customer.

Based on the reviews from this site, I used Midway Muffler & Brake to install a new catalytic converter (and muffler). I had failed a Smog test and needed some quick service - and I suspected the Cat. They were very friendly on the phone and in person. They were fast and completed the service while I waited. I will recommend them to anyone. The only reason I did not rate 5 stars is because their prices seem to be average or slightly higher. I'm okay with that though, knowing that if something goes wrong I feel confident that they will take care of the situation. The Smog re-test passed without issue!

I have used Midway muffler for 3 years, and I can honestly said they the best !!!
Very honest and very quick.
I have had a lot of work on my HONDA PRELUDE from Air-Con to Engine, and every time I get it back it's fixed and running better than before.
I would highly recommend Midway muffler, you can trust them to do a great job, and as I mentioned before , they are not looking to cheat you out of money, like a lot of other local dealers.

I went to a local chain repair shop with 2006 Toyota Corolla and was told I would need front brake pads, calipers and possible rotors. The cost to make these repairs was in the area of $725.00. In addition, I would need to leave the car. I decided I would shop around for a second opinion regarding cost and if in fact I needed the parts indicated by the shop. I talked to Tom at Midway Muffler and Brake. He informed me I should get a second opinion and they would inspect my brakes at no cost. I took my car to the shop and they checked on the spot, brought me to my car and showed me what repairs/replacement parts needed. The replaced my brake pads, resurfaced by rotors, cleaned and lubed the brake calipers. The cost was on $175.20. Great and courteous service. I have referred several of my friends to already. I will be back

I had taken my car to the dealer because the check engine light was on. I was told it would cost me $1235 for the car to be repaired. A friend referred me to Midway Muffler, Tom and Pat fixed my car, topped off all fluids and aired up the tires all for $296.98!! I will never go back to the dealer again.

Came in for a recommendation whether to get Magnaflow or Flowmaster. Talked to Rodrigo and I almost went for the Magnaflow but cannot do it right then and told him I'll be back since I was just shopping around. Called back to get a bit more info on the part and Rodrigo was unwilling to share the part # so I can research if he is giving me the correct part or something they just want to get rid off the shelf. Found later that there was a another part that would be a better fit for my baby. If you baby and care about your car, I wouldn't bring it to Midway muffler. Makes me wonder if this review was written by someone from Midway.

Pat Watson and his staff are the best...
Recently I was having problems trying to get my 1987 Corvette to pass the state strict emissions tests. After 2 failures I was at a loss and even spent $180.00 at a local certified smog repair shop to have a diagnosis on the car to isolate the problem which proved negative results.
Midway Mufflers recently added a Magnaflow cat back system to the car and what a difference it made in both performance but added fuel economy.
I had the car up on their hoist to add some resonators to it and was telling Pat about my problems trying to get it to pass because of the high NOX levels. He started looking around and soon discovered a broken wire leading to a Oxygen sensor as well as a broken tip on the sensor it's self. Pat sent one of his employees to a local auto parts place and replaced and installed the new sensor.
He then made an appointment for me to get the car tested once again and the good news it now passed with flying colors just as he predicted.

Midway Muffler and their staff went out of their way for me and not only is the quality of their work the very best, their pricing is the best of any other shop of this kind in the area.
From now on, only Midway Muffler will be doing anything related to my exhaust system work as well as my air conditioning needs as there is no one any better.
Thanks Pat and all of your great and friendly crew at Midway Muffler, you have a customer for life!

Sometime in February I took my car to get serviced at Midway Muffler in El Sobrante. My car needed new piping that connects to my muffler. It all started with a strange sound like air was being let out beneath my car. I had them take a look and they noticed a crack in the piping which had to be replaced if I wanted to pass smog and be good to the environment. They also noticed that I need a new catalytic converter so they changed that too. The service is great and the prices were I guess average.

I've been here 3 times and recommended this place to my friends who have also taken they're cars here also. I've had my car installed with high flow catalytic converter and stainless stell muffler which made my exhaust flow smooth. They have after market and performance mufflers available and special ordered. Service is pretty good and fast. They schedule for appointments so you don't have to wait on spot. Reasonable prices also.
