Ratings_icons Exceptional care at the Pet Hospital of PQ!

Kylie H.

My basset hound and I have been clients of the Pet Hospital of Penasquitos for over three years... we wouldn't go anywhere else! My dog has a significant medical history, and as "frequent visitors" we are always welcomed with happy hellos. Both Dr. Boyer and Dr. Brinton have provided us with exceptional care... questions have been answered, options explained, and support provided. In addition to trusting veterinarians, the vet techs at the Pet Hospital of Penasquitos are warm, caring, and knowledgeable. At each visit my dog happily trots in the front door, knowing that he is in good hands!

I highly recommend the Pet Hospital of Penasquitos.

We have been clients of the Pet Hospital of Penasquitos for about 15 years. Dr. Boyer has seen us through everything, from well animal check-ups with our puppies to euthanasia for our beloved four-legged family members.

He has always been kind and considerate. Dr. Boyer is contemplative, deliberate and has always been willing to discuss our pets issue as much as we needed. He has made excellent referrals to oncologists and orthopedists and has helped to guide us through the array of options available in veterinary care today.

It has always been easy to schedule appointments. My dog loves going to this office and always bounds in with a wagging tail to a big greeting! Dogs know whats what... only caring, kind and sincere vets get this kind of a hello from a dog. We know Dr. Boyer has the smarts, she knows he has the heart.

I always refer my friends to the Pet Hospital of Penasquitos. ~Leslie

Ratings_icons Pet Hospital Of Penasquitos is the best.

I wouldn't take my dog anywhere else. We have been using this vet for over 7 years, and have always been extremely happy with how we have been treated. Our dog starts wagging his tail as soon as we drive up in front. As a shelter dog, he was very nervous the first time we visited the vet, and the doctor and vet techs spent a long time making him feel comfortable. When I asked the doctor if we could get a prescription cheaper at Costco, he called the Costco pharmacy and then handed me the phone. (The medicine was not cheaper at Costco.) We've also used the hospital for our pet rats and have been impressed with the doctor's knowledge of "pocket pets". I would recommend Pet Hospital of Penasquitos to anyone who cares about their animals.

Ratings_icons Service is a Must!

The girls are great! They have master the lost art of customer service. The staff and vet are very respectful of time. Appointments are on time and fast. This place has a personality and I can tell they are informed and know what they are doing.

Ratings_icons Ever feel like you're dealing with a used car salesman?

I have noticed this in the last 10 years with dentists and last several years with vets. They try to sell you everything under the sun implying that your pets health depends on it. Anyway, I went in for some simple shots (for my dog...)and the estimate was over 200! It included special food, Advantage, a stool analysis and some take home medication. What happened to the health care profession? I for one don't like to be "sold-up" when I seek healthcare. I want to find out what I NEED, not pay for the providers new Porsche.

Our dog has demodectic mange. Goodwinol was started which helped on some patches but, it wasn't enough. At the recheck, vet prescribed Revolution for the mange. (Revolution is a topical medication for the prevention of heartworms and flea prevention) The vet knew it wouldn't do any good against demodectic mites (it kills sarcaptic mites) but, he gave us a prescription anyway. We had to go back for another office visit. At this visit, he questioned himself out loud why Revolution was prescribed since it isn't his usual method of treatment. Then, Ivermectin was prescribed for the mange and Diphenhydramine for the itching. I called the vet's office to ask why he prescribed Revolution. After I was told he would call back and he didn't return my call over a week, I went in to talk to him. His claim is my husband "requested" Revolution so, he was "obligated to fill the prescription". He said if any of his clients came in and requested a prescription, "I'm obligated to fill it" (ok, I guess he's saying he'll fill any prescription requests...) Besides, wasting over $100 for office visits and medication before getting the proper medication, we were duped into buying Diphenhydramine 50 mg/50tabs at $28.50. After checking online, i found what the vet sold me was Benadryl. Let me tell you, Benadryl (25mg/tab so, take 4 tabs at $11.99 a box at Costco) is more than half the cost! Prescribing medication upon a client's request (although this didn't happen) and selling medicine at an exhorbitant price is totally UNETHICAL! Only because the relief vet we saw once, at Pet Hospital of Penasquitos recommended Benadryl is why I know I can use it to help our dog. Needless to say, find another vet!

Response from this business:

Owner of business replied on 04/03/08
I remember this client. I told her husband that Revolution would not work against demodectic mange but he insisted that he had a friend whose dog had mange that got better with Revolution. I told him it was probably a differant mange (such as sarcoptic mange) but he insisted I write him a prescription which I did (Revolution does work against fleas and heartworm and the demodectic mange appeared to be resolving). I discussed this several times with the wife. It doesn't surprise me that medications can be cheaper at CostCo,many things are. The wife was surprised I did not tell her it was cheaper at CostCo, I told her that I honestly had no idea what the price of Benadryl at CostCo was. I am always ethical and I did nothing unethical with these clients.

This pet hospital didn't seem like the genuinly cared about the animals. The doctor is not sensitive about their needs and seems to just want to get the job done. They were somewhat flaky and didn't seem to know what they were doing or what was best for the animals. I wouldn't recommend this vet.

The employees are very nice and know what they are doing. This vet has been around a long time serving the community. This is one of the best vets i have ever been to.
