Not impressed either

I contacted this vet to make an appointment for my dog. We both recently relocated to San Diego (in January) to take care of my Dad who passed away from cancer 2 months ago. I haven't been working the whole time and have been living off my savings which is running extremely low.
I called these people and explained our whole story. I told them I could pay for the office visit, but I asked if they would call in or write a prescription to Target or WalMart pharmacy, so that I could afford to take care of my dog and the skin problems he was having.
They told me "no, we don't do that". Also, back in January. Our old vet from Anaheim said he would be willing to call in a prescription to VCA Angel to be filled (Revolution) for flea and tick care. I was told by VCA Angel that the vet there does not accept phone-ins from other vets.
I think the true problem is that if they can't run up the dollars on vet visits, it is not worth there time. It's not about caring for animals, helping, and making a decent living. No, they did not strike me as caring or concerned either.
From,
A loving (but temporarily cash strapped) pet parent

I found the staff to be unprofessional and cold. I brought a cat in with an oral infection which I had read was common in animals sometimes. The vet jumped to a bunch of critical conclusions about what the problem could be including saying that the cat may have FIV or Feline leukemia. I told the vet that the adoption clinic that I got the cat from had shown paper work that indicated the cat had tested negative for all these conditions and was up to date on her vaccinations. The vet then dismissed that by saying that they often use tests that are not very accurate and could not completely be trusted. After speaking with the adoption clinic they assured me that the test were the same a vet would use and that they could not give the cat up for adoption if she had tested positive for any of the formerly mentioned conditions. I feel like the vet put doubt in my mind in order to make me believe that getting the cat retested was necessary when in fact it was not. These blood tests for cats are not cheap. All in all i did not like the experience or the staff and I will be taking my animals elsewhere for their medical and health needs.
