I have brought my dog and cat here several times. I have always had good experiences here, and the prices are low. My dog has came in here before for a dental, and actually has another scheduled tomorrow. Dr. Loken is the only vet here, so it lessens the chance of confusion between multiple vets switching off (which I have experienced at other animal hospitals). He's friendly, but not the sickening "I-want-your-money" kind of friendly. He doesn't force unnecessary tests. He always explains why certain tests/medicines are needed, so I don't feel like I'm just visiting another money-hungry vet. He starts with the small things first, and works his way up if things don't work out. Many times, my dog has walked out with a specific diagnosis, a couple of medications, and never needed another visit for the same thing.

My dog had some kind of bad skin reaction and was developing several hot spots overnight. We took him to Dr. Loken, left with medicated shampoo and prednisone, and he never had the problem again.

Another time, he was limping on his right front leg. Most other vets would have automatically done an x-ray. Dr. Loken took his time feeling the leg, moving it slowly in different directions, and took great care in watching for certain reactions that my dog displayed. With a diagnosis of brusitis and some anti-inflammatory and pain reliever pills, my dog was fine within a few days. Even after the pills were gone, he didn't limp again.

When we took the dog in for a dental and 2 lump removals, Dr. Loken found yet another lump during the pre-operative physical. My family and I were pleased with how thorough he was, and surprised that he found a lump that we didn't know was there! (And once he pointed it out, I felt the lump for myself.)

All in all, I'm very pleased with Dr. Loken as our vet. Even though we have moved to Castaic, I still bring my dog and cat to him in Acton, at least 45 minutes away.

In response to Pam...
Apparently, nothing has happened to keep you away since you keep going back. If you're so unhappy with any vet, why continue going there?

I have lived in Acton over 20 years. Every time I have tried to give this vet a chance, something happens to keep me away. I have heard many horror stories so I am glad it worked out this way.
My first experience, I took my pregnant German Shepard in for a check up, they were rude and shamed us for not having our dogs hips checked before we breed her. She came froma great line with no hip problems, she was thin and had never had a problem. We got alot of dirty looks and comments from Dr. Lokin, when we asked him to stop commenting he walked away from our dog he had on the table and dhe feel off. He walked out of the room and never came back in.
I had an emergencey with an animal, I asked for an in home appointment, he would not come to my home because he had never seen her in his office.
On another occassion I wanted to bring my dog in , he was hurt. Well I was told he was in surgery and for him to take my appointment, it was considered an emergencey and it was an additional 80.00 for him to walk out of surgery to see him.
Needles to say I feel his reasons and the way he treats clients and their pets are extremly poor and unacceptable. I will travel anywhere for my animals and I do.

We have taken our animals here for about 15 years now and have always been very happy with the service and care. We have also had this vet out to our home for ranch calls for our horses and goats. We even had an emergency in the middle of the night one time when a pack of coyotes attacked our goats and sheep and the doctor came out at 2am to stitch up all of our injured animals and was able to save the lives of many of them. A highly recommended Veterinary Clinic!!

If you love your animals...consider another vet. Loken missed the mark and my pet died as a result. My pet had annual vaccinations and had severe and immediate adverse reactions. My calls to the vets office were met with little attention

If you love your animals...consider another vet. Loken missed the mark and my pet died as a result. My pet had annual vaccinations and had severe and immediate adverse reactions. My calls to the vets office were met with little attention or concern. I was misadvised. When I took my pet back hours later, he continued to misdiagnose the problem, despite my comments that I felt it was a reaction to the vaccination. Had he been knowledgeable, my pet could have been saved. Instead, he gave him a few shots and shoved us out the door. My pet went into seizures and died a few hours later. His failure is inexcusable. He did not even have the courtesy to apologize, admit he was wrong or offering to pay me for the cost of my pet (you cannot recover for emotional loss of a pet - only the $$ value)He also injected a microchip into a dog in 2009 which bled to death as a result. You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool me any longer. I hope this post saves someone else's pet. Go to a real vet.
