Now you can enjoy the same types of Churrasco (Brazilian Barbeque) in San Diego, CA. There are more than 40 different salads, side dishes, and meat selections served at Rei Do Gado Brazilian Steak House. It is a unique and healthy way of roasting meat over a mesquite flame that preserves tenderness and gives a taste unmatched by any other. Arriving at REI DO GADO?, you will encounter an unlimited buffet at mouth-watering typical dishes and salads. The passador (meat waiter) will soon come to your table with different types of selections of meat at a time. Then meat will be sliced of the skewer down to your plate. This will continue when you place a green chip by your plate and by turning the chip over to red, this will signal that you are done.

Went for lunch and wasn't too impressed, Fogo de Chao definitley takes the cake. But the sides were very good, esp. the rice and beans. Would go back.
Suggestions - go before 2pm you'll only pay $16.99 for the same thing.

The first time I experienced Rei Do Gado was as an office function. I was pleasantly surprised when I showed up at the very eclectic restaurant. Rei Do Gado is located in the heart of the gaslamp and just steps from Horton Plaza so parking wasn't a problem. The idea of the restaurant is there is a salad buffet and the waiters bring around scewers of very tender marinated meat. It's all you can eat so come hungry. The price is reasonable but if your looking for a bargain try the lunch menu. Drinks and desserts are extra but well worth the money. Try an imported Brazilian beer. My husband and I use every excuse we can to eat here. It's become a staple in our dining out options. You must try it.

Ratings_icons Great in San Diego to go visit

My last trip to San Diego my family and I dinned at this restaurant. It is amazing! The food is delicious, the service is great and the atmosphere is delicious. The price is reasonable for a fancy restaurant and if you add in the people you meet there it is very authentic Brazillian type of place.

I went here for my birthday and I was amazed by all the different meats that they offer.
This place is a little pricy but so worth the quality of meats!! Come hungry and leave full.
They also offer a great salad bar that is included with your meal. Great Wine list as well.

We vacationed this last week in Downtown San Diego (Gas Lamp Square). The Concierge at our Hotel recommended Rei Do Gado and boy was it awesome! My wife and I had never eaten Brazilian food. The salad bar was perfect, the meats where so full of flavor and tender. The service and food was impeccable. The piano player was playing some light classical. The atmosphere was perfect! It was a night to remember. The place is a must if you want Brazilian food.

I just went today and this place is amazing. The lunch special is $16.50 for all you can eat buffet, and trust me it's All you can eat. The inside of the place is really nice with early painting that line the windows and ceilings and the chairs are really puffy and comfortable. Then after you sit down the real fun begins after a waiter tells you about the salad bar, buffet, and then meat servers. I'd advise going to the salad bar and getting some veggies on your plate before the meat comes around. They have a ton of choices and actually have other dishes there but it's best to save yourself for the meat. Now to the servers, they come around to your table when you turn the wooden figure you get from red (stop) to green (serve/go) and ask you how much of the meat (i.e. sausage, filet mignon, top sirloin, pork/beef ribs, etc) you want. They cut it off the skewer with a knife and it's served fresh! The staff is very friendly and its great to go with large or small groups. I'd recommend not eating anything before or maybe a small snack; afterwards you won't want to eat for a while. I highly recommend checking it out for lunch (dinner is more expensive but they do have more meats).

Make sure you don't plan on eating anything for the next few days after doing the meat buffet here..you think buffet style food would mean lower quality, but not here. All the meats from the chicken skewers, prime ribs, or filet migon are fresh cut in your face by guys running around with huge knifes. They keep putting more meat on your place without asking until you flip the statue on the table to the red side. Its great to get a lunch here since its only 15 bucks instead of the 25 buck dinner. They also have a great fruit and salad bar once you get tired of pure meat and need some fiber in your diet.

YUM, this place will fill your thirst for finely seasoned grilled meats travelling around the restaurant on skewers for you to choose. Red they pass by, green, you eat! The salad bar is lacking but most people don't come here for salad. Deserts are lacking too if you still have room. The belly dancing is popular but a little tacky. Still the quality of the cooking makes it worth while.

Ratings_icons You will leave stuffed!!!

Paula K. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,395

Do not eat for the entire day before going to this place!!! It is all you can eat - the servers come around every few mintues with a different type of meat on a skewer and will carve some off for you. There is chicken, pork, filet mignon - everything you can think of and it is all delicious!! There is also a buffet area where you can get salad and side dishes but I say save your appetite for the meats - they are excellent!! It is pricey but considering you are getting all kinds of top notch meats, it is worth it!

PROS: Great variety of meats, Eat until you are stuffed!
CONS: A little pricey - but make it worth your while!

Ratings_icons Great variety

Nino2002

I have been to a Brazilian Steakhouse, in NC, this one was awesome compared to the one I have been too before. They had a huge variety of all kinds of food. It was all fresh and foods i have never tasted before. Honestly, I wanted to go back to San Deigo just to eat here again. The atmosphere was great and I would come back any time.

Pros: Great variety of food

Cons: no parking space

My husband and I just moved close to the gaslamp district a couple of weeks ago. Coming from Phoenix (with recent temporary stays in Texas, North Carolina and DC) we were at a loss about where to go for a decent steak dinner in our new home city. Some friends recommended Rei's and we were pleasantly surprised and will be coming back for more meals. The service was great and the food very tasty.

Ratings_icons Decent Brazilian steak house

I guess Rei Do Gado is the best Brazilian steak house I've been to in San Diego, but the pool is limited. The food is average to above average for Brazilian steak houses in Southern California. The food does not compare to Brazilian steak houses in Brazil. If you've never been to a Brazilian steak house, it's worth giving this one a try.

Pros: Good Brazilian steak house for San Diego
