Uneven styling, otherwise okay but not great, overpriced for what you get

by Ultra V.

I have had my hair done several times at this salon, both in San Diego and Las Vegas. I've had cuts and color touch ups and highlighting with different stylists. I would say they are good to very good, but not spectacular. However, their styling is VERY uneven. Once I had the best style I've ever had and looked fabulous (that stylist is no longer with the company, and was actually just an assistant and not a regular stylist), but most other times I've been embarrassed to walk out on the street because my hair has looked so bad after the styling was done. This comment refers even to Stephanie who is apparently a co-owner and a Paul Mitchell trainer but who can't style hair for some reason (and her own hair always looks terrible). Sometimes the stylists tell you their personal problems ("I got drunk a week ago and didn't even call in so now I'm in trouble with the salon"), and I expect more "class" at a high-priced salon. Also, they don't have much "tact": one time, the stylist referred to me as an "older lady"--talk about a bringdown--okay I'm not 23, but it's not like I'm 50 or anything! The massage during the shampoo is nice, but again, it's uneven depending on who does it. Plus, I can go to a massage person for a massage; I'm there for my hair. Overall, it's overpriced and not recommended for styling, but color is usually satisfactory. One time, however, they talked me into lowlights, which, unlike what they promised ("depth" and "definition") simply made my hair too dark and it looked mousey brown, dull, and awful. I later found out that lowlights are really bad for your hair. So I think they try to talk you into things just to make more money.

Salon is ok, not spectacular.

by Robert C.

I know about his Salon. I have some friends that used to frequent his establishment. The services are ok, but not spectacular. The stylist bought about seven large Paul Mitchell products to the counter and rang them up after she fnished my hair with out consulting me. I told here that I had ample supplies at home. She seemed to take a little offense witch made me feel uncomfortable. She also seemd tired during the service and inatentive at times to what was going on.

Just seemed weird to me. I guess I expected more.

Missing this place

by Lisa M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 6,435

I miss going to this salon, I moved recently. The customer service is nice, the service style is nice too. I guess you get what you pay for so if I'm charged a little more for better customer service and personal attention, I'm all for it.

A nice splurge, but not really worth it

by Paula K. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,290

A friend got me a "day of beauty" type thing here for my birthday. First of all it is not easy to get to and parking can be quite a hassle as it is in the downtown area. I got a pedicure and hair wash and cut. The pedicure was nice, but just didn't seem to be as relaxing as I have had at other salons. The haircut was good but unless you are really young and hip you might feel a little out of place b/c all the stylists seem so young and hip. My stylist was very nice though. I don't go to supercuts or anything but this place was just too much for me!

PROS: Hip, trendy - staff was nice
CONS: Parking was a pain, felt a little out of place

Worth the price...

by Christine C. | insider Insider | Rank: 22,485

In a superb location, Robert Cromeans Salon is quite worth the prices and actually, their cuts aren't too bad ($45) last time I was there. Most of the stylists have been in the business for quite awhile, are up on the latest styles/techiniques and some even teach over at the Paul Michell School.

They do charge extra to flatten your hair, etc., so make sure you ask if they do anything. They expect you to be able to afford it, so they don't tell you it's more.

PROS: The head massage when you get your hair washed!
CONS: Parking, take the trolley to the Convention Center stop if you can.

Toxic Paul Mitchell Hair Products, Public Beware..

by ItsWAR

United States Tax Court 1997:

JPMS had no useful inventory controls. By April 21, 1989, the warehouse was in disarray, and there was a several-months' supply of products stacked up in JPMS' parking lot. In fact, JPMS tracked its sales by manuallyrecording them? on a blackboard. None of the JPMS staff knew how to use computers.

As of April 21, 1989, JPMS had 21 employees who worked in a 90,000-square-foot warehouse space in Santa Clarita, California, owned by Mr. DeJoria and leased by JPMS. As of April 21, 1989, the warehouse space was not in compliance with the local fire code and had no environmental controls for drainage of waste orrunoff water in the event of fire or disposal of poor-quality product. Some materials used to make hair? careproducts are categorized as hazardous waste.

Pros: none

Cons: Just about everything.

Low end salon at a high end price

by SmileSD

I've been going to this salon for over 2 years and I've finally decided to move on after countless screw ups on the admin end of the salon and the actual hairdressers themselves. The fact of the matter is, this salon is nice if you like taking risks with your money and hair but not nice if you want what you pay for every time. Since the economy has gone downhill, the salon has started charging for things that they never used to, including horrible cuts and color jobs. If you like paying $200+ for a haircut you hate and big splotches of highlights on your scalp - this is the place to go!

Pros: Great shampoo massages

Cons: Price, reliability, attitude

Services ok, not spectacular.

by Shalom2009

I know of his Salon. I booked an appointment there once. The stylist was a little pushy. She brought seven large Paul Mitchell products to the counter and rang them up without even consulting me if I needed any. When I told her I have ample amounts at home already she seemed to take offense. It made me a little uncomfortable to be quite honest. The services are ok, but not spectacular. Parking can be a pain if it is busy.

Cons: Was not the greatest salon experience.

Unhappy with the full bleach services, was not toned properly.

by PaxRoma2009

Had a few services at Mr. Cromean's Salon. The service was ok. A bit over priced to be honest. I recieved a full bleach and it was not toned properly. Stylist was somewhat inattentive. Parking is also a big hassel.

Cons: Bleach service not toned properly.

Wonderful Experience

by lexloxle

I was a first time customer to this salon and loved every minute from the time I came in the door, the beautiful receptionists all stopped what they were doing and greeted me with a smile. They set up my appointment and was very patient while I figured out what I wanted exactly. The shampoos are to DIE FOR! I had a chance to relax from my stressful day, with soft music, and lit candles and neck massage during the shampoo. My hair was simply beautiful when I was done. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

Best atmosphere to have fun and feel comfortable, your stylist starts to feel like Family

by cupcakemaker

Like I said before Robert Croemens is such a high energy environment. Your stylist is like family, the family you really like. I see my stylist more than I see my real family. I have turned at least 20 friends and co-workers in to cients and they all feel the same. You even get to a point where you know that if you had to lose your boyfriend or stylist. Your boyfriend would have a long way to walk home. Come on in and try it out at least once. You won't regret it. I have been with my stylist, Jay, for 12 years. He is amazing and so are the other stylists. C'mon give it a try.

Pros: Employees, the entire enxperience, neck massage(5-10m) while they wash your hair

Cons: parking
