Re: Great Service

My name is Philip Richardson. I'm an American Ex-Pat living and working in mainland China.

I was on a recent business trip in the US visiting a customer in Upland CA. After my meeting with the customer I had half day left so I viewed the Yellow Pages and came across Jones II in San Marino, CA. only about 10 minutes from where my customer is located.

When I walked into the shop I immediately knew I was in the right spot because on display were 3 or 4 Merlin bikes built up with Durace and in the storefront windows was a Bianchi C2C built up and a Giant carbon road bike with high-end components.

Having just purchased a Lynskey R220 frame and fork set with custom paint job I needed a quality bike shop to build it up (with Campy Record of course).

I walked down the aisle checking out a fixie and slowing making my way to the counter when a salesman approached me and casually began chatting about fixies. I then discussed a need to build up my recent Lysnkey purchase and am in the market for a wheelset.

The salesman deffered me to Mr. Benson Lam whom came around the counter wiping grease off his hands and greeted me with an honest "hello".

We shook hands and began to chat. I told Benson of my recent purchase of high-end bike and that I was in the market for a set a wheels.

I'm 5"8 at 189 lbs heavy in the middle but mostly muscle and explained my riding habits.

Benson showed me some Zipp wheels and other things and I furthered my explanation that I live in China and would require a wheelset to support my riding habits and should anything go wrong I would need something with common parts. Benson began/opened a dialogue of virtues between handbuilt and machine built wheels.

A couple of hours later or better I purchased/ordered a Campagnolo Record with Mavic Open Pro wheels and DT spokes parts for which Benson would personally build up with his hands. I then left the shop to begin my two business trip across the US which will take me to Key West, Denver, Utah, Seattle and Mexico.

Two weeks later...

I returned to Jones Bicycles and checked out the wheelset Benson built up with correct dishing and tension. I then ordered ITM bars, seatpost, stem and other parts to comlete the build of the frame and fork when it arrives in the latter part of this month to Jones II.

In summary, Benson Lam took the time out to discuss cycling, parts, and good old fashioned service. It is his thinking and actions that I commend and highly reccomend Jones Bicycles II to any bicycle enthusiast beginner or Pro.

Good Job!

I went in cause im new to mountain biking, and asked them to teach me about hardtails, and boy did i learn a lot! the moment i walk in, the guy asks me if i need help, and i mention that i am new to mtn biking, and he slowly takes me through all the parts of a hardtail, the reasons why some are more expensive, and most importantly he didn't push selling the most expensive bike. i didn't purchase a bike yet, cause im a little low on cash, but definitely with their service, their lower-than-MSRP prices, and their free checkups any time (40 dollar value!) i will purchase from them soon =)

Great choice of brand name gear as well as custom, high-end gear, and genuine, practical advice. These guys know cycling in all its intricacies, from entry level to seasoned competitor.

Not only have I received internet-competitive prices, as have the people I have referred, but it comes with advice and service difficult to find anywhere in retail these days.

For what I get for my money there, it wouldn't occur to me to ask for an additional break just because I was paying cash. Talk about "LAME!"

I bought my Giant OCR touring frame from this store and was very satisfied with the help the owner provided me. At the time I was looking for a bike frame that I thought was impossible to find, but Benson the owner did some research for me and found what I was looking for, for a decent price. He is very knowlegeable and not overly pushy. This is one of my favorite bike store to shop at, no question.

PROS: Excellent customer service
CONS: None to mention

I went into the bicycle shop to just look at the bikes. The employee was very helpful in describing what bike was best suited for me. I would of couse go back and by a bike from there when I have enough money saved. They were incrediblely friendly and helpful. There bikes were less expensive then others that I have shopped at.

Very nice next-door-neighbor bike store: small, clean, not too many bikes on display, but all are good ones (well, a $3,500 bike must be good :-). Although I didn't see too many big name brand bikes like Marlin, Trek or Specialized.

They have a service are and an abundance of accessories and supplies: brakes, chains, wheels, tires, lubricant, etc.

These guys know about bikes. They are honest and don't try to oversell.
