This is the first online review I've ever done, but felt compelled to do one because I was so pleased with this company.

Towards the end of July '10 my wife and I walked into the Channel Islands Kayak Center to ask a few questions about kayaking and the various boats that might work for us. We had no intention of buying anything as we were just starting to do our research.

We met Mike Lamm, the owner of CIKC. He was a wealth of information and very generous in sharing his time patiently explaining everything we needed to know. His enthusiasm for the sport (and life in general) was infectious. We were surprised when he offered to let us take out a couple of the boats we were considering. He did not charge us anything to do so or make any restrictions on how long we could be out. It was clear he wanted us to make an informed decision and to be happy with any purchase we made.

We ended up purchasing a Perception Tribe 13.5 two person kayak with two quality seats and paddles. It's a stable, great performing kayak at a modest price. Mike did not try steer us towards any of the other much more expensive kayaks like so many less reputable businesses try to do. He knew that this kayak was what would be the best fit for us and said so.

To match our sailboat we ordered an uncommon color that wasn't currently in stock. It was possibly going to take a couple of months for the color we chose to be special ordered. To our amazement, Mike loaned us a boat just like the one we were buying (just the wrong color) so that we could get started kayaking until our boat came in. He didn't want us to have to wait. He delivered the boat to Ventura Harbor for free (after hours and and on his own time) and patiently helped us set everything up.

In a day and age where all you can hope for is marginal service at best (if that), I can't tell you how pleasant it was to do business the old fashioned way with a proprietor that does things with both honor and integrity. He's an old fashioned "The Customer is Always Right" kind of guy. All his employees are the same way which reflects highly on Mike and the way he runs his business. They all have extensive experience and are a wealth of information. They are all friendly, professional and patient.

My wife and I highly recommend Channel Islands Kayak Center. You get a level of knowledge, service and competitive pricing that you won't get anywhere else.
