My kids really enjoyed attending school for grades K-5. They enjoyed all of their teachers immensely. There were a couple of problems, but they seem to be specific to the school district and not only to Emerson. There was one teacher who missed more than half the year, even when the important testing was done, she was gone. I know a few teachers who never would've missed testing day and it might have affected their students' performance. But not this gal, she missed throughout the year and despite parent complaints nothing was done. But, I believe that this is a problem throughout the teaching industry. Once you have acheived tenure its difficult for a school district to do anything. The other complaint is that they have a divided opening, meaning some students go to school at 8:30am and others dont arrived until 9:15am. This allows students who need individual reading instruction to get help in the morning. However, other school districts acheive the same thing by having a teacher assitant or/and reading groups that rotate between teacher and aide during language arts time. This school also doesnt have a lot of students in GAIT compared to other school districts...?? Other than that, the talent shows are the best, and a lot of the staff participate which is just great for the students and their families.
