I've been a member for almost 7 years now. The worst years were when they were run by Powerhouse. Luckily they were bought back and are much better now.

I have to agree with Mark G. and his comment about this being a gym for people who actually work out, not just spend 2 hours socializing or talking on their cell phones and call it a workout. It is not the fanciest gym, but for the price I pay it's fine for me. The gym includes a women's only area which is a plus. The classes are probably the best part. I take kickboxing and Vibra (cardio dance) with Jose who is probably one of the best instructors they have had in a long time. I also take Zumba with Lata who is also really good. Booty Barre on Saturday's and Cycling which they have everyday. I have looked at other gyms around the area and have not found as much of a variety of classes as there are at SCAC and they are so much more expensive.

They also have a tanning salon which is really decently priced. They have a salon as well upstairs, never used it myself. They recently remodeled the cycling room which now includes a big screen which simulates your ride.

This gym might not be the most glamorous, but I think that's what I like about it. The people are not as snooty as other gyms in Santa Clarita.

I have been a member for many years. I stopped going when Powerhouse took over because they only wanted more money. After becoming a mom a few years ago, I went back to the gym and noticed many changes in the facility, the employees and members. Not a whole lot of friendliness coming from anyone. The staff will not address problems, they will give you the run-a-around until you are frustrated and go away. The place is old and pretty dirty in many places. The child care is not too sanitary and it smells alot. I tried to talk to someone about swim lessons for my little one and had trouble getting any information or a return call.
This place is not what it used to be. You might want to check out other fitness centers as they are all not too far away.

From lifting weights to burning fat doing cardio, SCAC has it all. In the style of a gym for gym goers, not a social club for people who want to act like they're working out, SCAC has the right stuff. Yeah, there's spin classes, personal training, childcare and the like - a women's gym, too. But if you want to REALLY work out, this is the place to be.

has extremely poor management. The equipment is old, carpets dirty, facilities outdated and strange odors. After sticking with them for several years and going through a change to Powerhouse, a chapter 11 and then back to the SCAC, hoping for something better, it continued to disappoint. No new changes just the same old dirty gym. I joined to use the pool and the great managers who leased the pool also left because of the poor management. It's dingy with no decorations or life. The girl who runs that program now is just plain nasty. My membership was cancelled because I had paid cash to Powerhouse for a 2 year term (turned out to be a good thing). I used the gym 1-2 days a week, what was that going to cost them to continue my membership. Instead I have purchased a much better membership from a way better gym in our valley.Don't waste your $$, there are much better gym out there.

Powerhouse came in, appeared to be purchasing a long standing and excellent gym (Santa Clarita Athletic Club), and almost destroyed it. They ruined the weight lifting area by moving machines too close together (to the point of being unsafe and over crowded) and eliminated many other regularly used resistance machines/free weights. This was done to facilitate an MMA cage and training area which seems to have had a very limited audience vs. the weight machines. Somewhere in there they also attempted to raise most/all existing members rates right before dumping the near dead gym back on the previous owners. This was after numerous members had already left due to the lame changes made under Powerhouse Gym management. I didn't use the gym much during this time, but for the few amount of things I did use in it, and small amount of time I spent there, Powerhouse managed to disappoint in a place where I had been happy for many years. In that small amount of time I also learned that I was far from the only person who did not care for the changes. I am still a member, barely, and I am glad I held out as the previous owners are back and already making sensible changes to fix things. No matter what my circumstances, I will never be a member of Powerhouse again, due to this experience. To be clear this poor review is for Powerhouse and NOT the Santa Clarita Athletic Club.

This gym has been around for a while, so some of the equipment isnt brand new, but its all quality, well maintained, and there is plenty of it. All types will feel at home whether hard core, or casual and there are plenty of different ways to workout, from cardio classes, cardio machines, yoga, free weights, pool(swimming), raquetball, basketball, MMA, and some I am forgetting I am sure. Now that the gym is back under SCVAC management its well worth a look to see if it fits your needs.

I would not recommend this place as a gym. The facility is older and outdated. It is not clean and they are way over priced n comparison to other gyms. The staff is nice and the class selection is good. They are fencing for kids that is excellant, but not a buy a membership gym.

I have been a member of various gyms since I was in High School. Powerhouse in Santa Clarita has been the worst experience I have ever had! The spinning bikes were faulty for the first 5 months of my membership. On multiple occasions, myself, others, and instructors came un-clipped during the class and nearly fell off of the bikes.

Recently, my husband and I, had to cancel our membership (due to moving to attend graduate school). There are no Powerhouses in the area we now live in, yet we were charged an early cancellation fee of $150 per person, had to pay the last month's fee on top of that, AND received a charge for a "yearly enhancement fee." All of this despite the fact we 1. had not been there for a full year and 2. we just canceled our contract. Additionally, when I inquired about the additional charge, the staff manager told me the charge was not from Powerhouse. However, once I called the following week someone else told me it was. I am still awaiting a response from the general manager regarding this 'extra' fee. Until then, the membership cost us $60 a month (reasonable), but the cancellation cost $390!!!!

Please save yourself the misery and find another gym. Yes, the instructors are wonderful (except one that uses class time to conduct an 'infomercial' for her detox products), but the equipment is a liability waiting to happen, the staff is un-knowledgeable, and frankly...the place is a SCAM.

Pros: Great Spinning Instructors

With the new general manager in place at the Canyon Country location, I wouldn't consider re-joinining this gym unless they come to the conclusion that he's bad for their business. He was extremely rude and pompous. He also seems to be very deficient in Customer Service skills and his "aggressive" and arrogant attitude towards clients is not conducive to good business. When the owners wise up and fire this guy, I may consider coming back as a member.

Although the gym has attempted to make changes to it's appearance due to the new owner, the gym it's worse rather than better. The new personnel is rude including the manager. The gym is dirty, the women's bathroom smells really bad all the time. The new lay out is awkward and not functional. After being a member for 2 years I've decided the type of service I'm getting does not warrant the fairly high, comparatively speaking, monthly fee.

In the emerald club there is the problem with the cleaning crew. They talk to their friends and leave their cleaning supplies all over. One of the ladies that works during the week talks on her cell phone most of the time.

The gym should also post signs that cell phones are not to be used while you are on any piece of equipment. It is dangerous and disrespectful to the members who are at the gym to workout.

The babysitting hours have been cut back way too much. I work out 4-6 days a week. I usually can't get into the gym until after 11:00am. My workouts now have to be much shorter and there are many days I can't make it in at all.

These reasons are very important to me. My workouts are very serious to me. When they get disrupted because I have to listen to somebody scream into their cell phone or cut my time in half because of the ridiculous babysitting hours I have to wonder if I should join another gym.

If the gym needs to save money they can get rid of the cleaning lady in the emerald club. She does very little. The lady that is their on Saturdays does more work than the other one does during her entire week.

t t. you should do a little more research before you give 1 star to a great club that youve never been to solely because YOU can not find their website, their site is www.thescac.com, i hope you can find it.

I've been a member of this gym for several years. However now that my contract is up, I have decided to cancel because they are always rescheduling and canceling classes regardless of the classes popularity. I would not recommend this gym unless you don't mind paying high prices to work independantly on weight machines.

This is one of the best gyms in Santa Clarita. They are open 24 hours a day (except for Sunday) so it really limits the number of excuses you can come up with for not going! They have many exercise classes for all levels. Also, they have an area exclusively for women if you feel like gyms tend to be meat markets.

They also have a newer pool that offers swimming lessons, as well as regular water classes.

The coaches all seem to know what they are doing and teach their skills well.

This is one gym that I hope will be around for a long time.

PROS: Open 24 hours - 6 days a week
CONS: Located at the edge of town, kind of far from everything else

If you are actually going to the gym to work out then this is a better choice than any other offered in SCV. The have a large facility which includes a main gym, a female only gym, an aerobic room, a full size basketball court which also is used for volleyball, a spinning room and a seperate gym for Emerald club members (if you want to pay a little more to stay away from the riff raff of the main gym). This is the only gym in SCV with any raquetball facilities. There are 5 or 6 courts and they are lighted. There is also a teen fitness club, babysitting, and an atrium type area for yoga or pilates or you can sit up there and watch either the basketball or raquetball games. This gymis moderately priced and has everything you need sans the lap pool. Oh well, we can't have it all.

PROS: RAQUETBALL
CONS: POOL

It isn't the nicest gym ever, but it certainly does get the job done. I'm very impressed with the three month special they had a while ago. I only wanted a summer membership and for $99 it was mine. They also give you a free session with a personal trainer to go over a personalized routine and talk about nutrition. There's also a snack bar and television to socialize when you feel the need.
