Love my Safeway

by Dalila E. | insider Insider | Rank: 20,977

I've moved around South San Jose for 12 years but I come back to this Safeway almost every time! The prices are superb and though you do need to have your card- it's so worth it. Oh the SELECTION! I'm Italian and I can get imported virgin olive oil, red wine vinegar, garlic stuffed olives, mozzarella balls in their milk- I could go on! It's great natural healthy food! Go Safeway!!

Nice remodel, can get crowded

by Anne R. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 326

It took a while for me to get used to the new layout after the remodel, but overall, I like the expanded store and the increase in organic options. They even added a Starbucks kiosk (though the Starbucks store next to Safeway is better). If you can, avoid shopping on Sunday or evenings (right before dinner) as the lines are long and it can get a bit crazy.

Slow

by Debbie T. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,575

Always seems like the checkers are slow and never a bagger around to help.

People seem friendly enough and the produce seems ok but not great.

Store looks nice, it was newly remodeled, but they need to fix the service aspect of the business. Nobody ever around to help in customer service area.

I go for the prices

by Paula H. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,056

The remodel looks nice, however, it seems more crowded now especially over by the deli and bakery sections. It's very hard to get help in the deli where the salads are located. The produce is not always the freshest and they are sometimes out of certain things. It is always crowded when I shop there. The best things about Safeway are the prices and sales they offer frequently.

good selection, nicely remodeled

by P J. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,137

This safeway was recently remodeled - and is really nice inside. I like their new line of Organic products. Their bakery is boring though, and does not offer many whole wheat options.

PROS: nicely remodeled

A Cut Above

by Donna S. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,247

As supermarkets go, Safeway has more than what you would expect. For example, we were there on a Sunday morning and they had fresh french bread, fresh flowers and piles of the Sunday newspaper. You know they're going to have what you want and it's worth it just for that.
