I recently vacationed in Compton, CA. I always believed NWA when they said Compton was great, so being white and from Massachusetts, I just always wanted to go. So I did. Ice Cube and them were right, what a wonderful place this is. Anyways, upon landing I met a nice man who ran an independant taxi service and offered to give me a ride to my lodgings. I agreed, because he was just so nice and knowledgeable about this wonderful area. On the ride over, he asked me if I liked fried turkey. I had never heard of it, and was quite intriged. He told me that he knew the best place on Earth for fried turkey, Loreto's. It was hard to understand the ebonics but it got across eventually. So he drove me to Loreto's, my first Compton meal. When he drove up I told him to wait and just keep the meter running. There must have been a miscommunication though, because he drove off with all my stuff before I even had 2 feet in the door. I figured he was going to get gas or something, so I didn't even worry about it. Upon walking in, the wonderful smells just filled up my nostrils. Boy, did it smell good. The cashier was a nice colored girl who immediately asked me if I was lost. I asked why and she just snickered. So I ordered my meal of fried BBQ Turkey and wow, was it wonderful. Flavors were succulent and I enjoyed all of the patrons staring at me while I ate. I was wearing blue and they really didn't seem to like it. I don't know why though, they all had red on and I didn't say anything. Why they gotta hate on blue? It's a nice color. So I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and went outside to wait on the taxi that had so abruptly left, when out of nowhere, two guys came up and repeatedly punched me upon the face and body. They kept calling me a chip or something and on top of my luggage being stolen, they stole the remainder of my money while the employees just laughed and laughed, calling me names. I thought the tip that I left was ample, but apparently in this really lavish part of the world it was lacking. I didn't know, i'm a tourist! If you want good fried turkey with service that comes with an insult and a possible STD then this is the spot for you. All in all, it was one of my better dinner experiences in the Compton area. At least I didn't get shot that time.

Only in the deep South would people deep fry a turkey. But, damn if it's done right you may never want a traditional turkey again. Loreto's is an interesting little joint. A bit more like a Turkey's are Us. . . turkey taco's, turkey plates, turkey bowls and turkey sandwiches. Avant Garde BBQ turkey with fantastic cornbread, greens, or baked beans. It's a down-home joint deep in the heart of compton! You won't find deep fried Turkey as good as Loreto's.

Loreto's Fried Turkey is the best, you have to try it and see for yourself. I had a bar-be-que turkey sandwich and it was delicious. The turkey was moist and the bread was so soft like it was just baked. Another food to try is the turkey tacos, great price and wonderful taste. All deserts are homemade and I recommend you try them all. Everything is made fresh; made to order. Service is super friendly and fast and it's a very clean resturant.
