Great food, but no real atmosphere. If you are coming for a great location with incredible decorations, go somewhere else. But, if you are looking for incredible enchiladas and soups, then this is the place.

I just jumped on CitySearch to find the phone number for my favorite Mexican restaurant Hacienda Del Rey, only to see all these terrible reviews. So I just became a member on here so I could write an accurate review.

Hacienda Del Rey is an excellent restaurant, food is fresh, chips and salsa flow as soon as you sit down. There is a lady making fresh tortillas, and the margaritas are outstanding, a little pricey, but they don't skimp on the tequila. My two favorites are #1 Chief Special (Chicken breast smothered in cheese, mushroom, and squash) and the Shrimp and Scallop Special. Both come with hot fresh tortillas. The fajitas are also outstanding.

Plenty of parking in the back alley, and on the side past the Chicago Rib spot.

Ate the food and got massive case of diahrrea....was out of commission for 3 days!! Your choice on whether you want to go there, but I'd recommend you stay away!

Pros: Authentic Mexican atmosphere, and free colon cleanse

Cons: Health Concern

So, I have passed by this place many times and last week decided to stop in and eat. There were about seven people at the bar at 1:30 PM on a weekday and every single one of them were stone-faced drunk and staggering all over the place. I decided to eat any way. The table was sticky, the menu had so many typos on it it was laughable. The food tasted like everything was warmed up in the microwave. The waiters were clueless about customer service. The meu said the place was established in 1973...incidentally, that was the last time the bathrooms had been cleaned too...

DO NOT EAT HERE!

DO NOT EAT HERE!

Pros: None Really

Cons: Bad Food, Dirty, Seedy & Customer Service

While eating at the tortilla grill with my girlfriend I had a good view of the kitchen area. I noticed that the waiters would clean off the tables and then when they were in the kitchen they would sift through the uneaten food and reserve the food to other customers. They had a bowl that they would fill with uneaten tortillas and a cook would grab them and throw them on the grill for a second to reheat them and then they tried to serve them to us. I paid the bill and left but felt like their reserving of others trash is a serious health risk. How do I know if the last customer had sneezed on the food or had hepititis? I will never eat there again. STAY AWAY!!!

The best thing I can say about this place was that the margarita was ok and the prices were cheap. Other than that... the chips were burnt. The queso was basically just a thing of melted cheese with a couple canned chiles thrown in it. Taquitos and salsa both contained hair!! Guacamole tasted like it was out of a grocery store refrigerator case. My roommate's enchiladas were "meh." Service-wise, I think our waiter was drunk, he mumbled to himself and wandered off in the middle of saying something (what, I still don't know!) to us. The decor was really tacky, with the way it looked they should turn the lights down a little so you can't see it. Honestly, I can't imagine ever going here again for any reason.

I've had a few things here and I would definately recommend sticking with the standard Mexican fare -- I was not impresed with tthe ceviche and this grilled fish I got, but my girlfriends enchiladas were not bad. Service was good, and there were two bars (always a plus) and a tortilla maker who you could watch, making it a fun place all around.

I love this place - It makes no apologies for what it offers: great tasting food, very reasonable prices, modest ambiance and good tasting margueritas. Try the cheese enchilladas and the beef fajitas.

For those high-maintenanced people that must have their every whim catered to, have ample parking, etc. dont come here, this place is a good old-fashioned mexican joint with great food, friendly service, and very reasonable prices - A great bargain!

I love the food there! Try the tortilla soup!!! It gets crowded on Friday amd Saturday nights from about 7:00 on so service might be slow, but still worth it.

Maybe it's becuase we had such a bad experiance here but I didnt like this place. First, there's very little parking and the only place to park is in the back alley. The restaurant is small and smelly. There service was awful. It took us 45 mins for them to take our order. Then we waiting another 45 mins for them to bring our food. Then we waiting another 20 mins for them to bring our bill. When we were finally able to leave, someone had parked behind our car and we couldnt get out. And to top it off the food wasnt that good. I'll never go again.

My husband and I decided to try Haceinda for the first time last weekend. When we arrived we were not seated since there were only 2 of us. Instead they decided to seat a party of 4 and party of 3 before they even bothered with us. Another party of 2 came in and they were going to seat them until they mentioned we were waiting. Then we ordered our drinks, since I ordered water they decided not to bring my drink, after about 15 minutes and 5 requests for a glass of water they finally brought me one. We ordered and we were the last ones to get our food in our area. People that arrived after us were eating while we sat staring at our empty drink glasses. The food was fine but the service was so terrible it became a joke. We are never coming back here!

I am revising a previous review I left: I come from San Diego so I am pretty judgy about Mexican food. Each time I've come here, I've left satisfied. It's not the best Mexican food in the world, but you definitely get some value for what you pay. To save money, I highly recommend their daily specials, especially their Enchiladas del Mar. I've ordered seafood enchiladas from other places, but Hacienda has the perfect seafood mix in theirs. You can't go wrong with their Chicken Enchiladas and Chile Relleno either. I would stay away from their fish tacos. I am not too keen on the grilled fish taco. Blech. Other than that, you have to pay for soda refills. I haven't seen them re-serving their food like other people have mentioned, but I haven't been here in a while either, so next time I go...I'll watch out!

Quaint, family-owned restaurant in LMU neighborhood serves up everyone's favorite Mexican dishes. The chile rellenos--oozing with cheese and spicy sauce--are a must-try menu item. Other highlights include cheese enchiladas, fajitas and burritos. Don't leave without trying one of the incredible strawberry margaritas.

Everything's authentic at "Haci's". Very good margaritas---not sweet, hand made mix every day. Food is wonderful. In 2003, the first Monday of the month they roll back prices 25 years---they're celebrating their 25th Anniversary. Local ownership. Great Friday night place.

Hacienda is a cool place for authentic Mexican. The food is really good and the margaritas are a must. The service is great. You'll totally enjoy your time at Hacienda.
