Carlsen Volvo is disappointing
by Aleta H.
Very disappointing. I would not give Carlsen Volvo any stars whatsoever. I recently asked for a part number for a replacement interior piece for my 2000 XC. The parts department refused to tell my the part number insisting that if I needed the part, they would only order it if I wanted to get it through them and have it installed by them. The sales department tried to intercede for me but were rebuffed.

Carlsen Volvo is good
by A H.
We leased a car recently. We are looking forward to experiencing the Volvo service. We are hoping that it will be a good experience. So far, we've been enjoying the car.

Carlsen Volvo - Excellent service dept
by Kristen E.
My husband and I love Volvo's, and have had our most recent one serviced here for the last 5 plus years. Dan is our service manager, and he really goes the extra mile. We have an older 240 wagon, which we love, and they have been great at problem solving when parts were no longer available (wire harness). They have always been courteous, timely and thorough.

Excellent Service and very knowledgeable staff
by Anonymous
I have to write about the staff at Carlsen Volvo. I have been bringing my vehicles to them for almost 18 years. I am just amazed at how the staff stays together. I feel like I am going to a relatives house, everyone is still there. The ownership and management has not changed and this is why I return, along with the fact they really care about the customer and our needs. I really want to thank you folks for making it nice to come to you. Another side note, I live in San Mateo and had a bad experience with the dealer in Burlingame way way back, and they still have staffing problems there. Never again will I step foot into the dealer in Burlingame. It's worth the drive to Palo Alto.

Repair work wrong

Three of the times I've been here under warranty I've had bad experiences - an incomplete checklist, brakes not done well (which I had to pay for), and then the last time they said they checked my turbo hoses and I don't have a turbo car. That was certainly the last time for me - I'm finding a new place for Volvo repairs.

Sales manager made fun of us
by Anonymous
We've been a customer here for over 10 years, and when our Volvo battery died, we had to go in to get a code to be able to use the radio. The sales manager, who was sitting around on a couch, responded to our request with a number and we went outside to enter the code. It didn't work and when we went back, the sales manager, Rich, grudgingly got up and went to his files to give us the number. Apparently he was joking with us the first time when he gave us a random number. We didn't think it was funny. He didn't apologize. I won't do business with this dealership again.

Great automotive repair shop for Volvos

We keep buying Volvos, in large part because we want to be able to go to Carlsen Volvo for repairs and service. The location is so convenient, and they are so meticulous in taking care of our cars. The people are very nice, and never give me that eye-rolling that too often comes from other vendors when i have questions about automotive issues that seem complicated to the layperson, but are probably pretty obvious to a skilled mechanic. Great staff, great service.
PROS: Location and service
CONS: Pricey

I have a volvo cross country that I bought from them in 2000. Their service has always been excellent. I love the car. I had emergency problems with the locks and lights once. I just took it to them and fixed it right away without needing an appointment.

We bought our 1986 Volvo at Carlsen Volvo and used to have it serviced there but moved to Say Ray in Palo Alto. Most recently, I have used Carlsen for parts. The plastic door pockets and visor hooks have become brittle with age and I bought replacements. Their stock is pretty good and I usually don't have to order anything.

So-So Sales, O.K. Service

Getting a used Volvo here can be fairly easy, but like most used car dealers, be prepared for the slick performance of the salesman. They boast amongst each other about how quickly they cam get a car in for a lease return and turn it around for a quick sale the same day.
Service is O.K. Knowedgeable mechanics, but be sure to call ahead to schedule an appointment
PROS: Can be helpful with loaner cars while your car is being worked on

They are very busy and often scheduling is difficult. Sometimes they are not as through as one would expect and it's required multiple return visits to get something done right.
