My family dropped by Vasili's Greek Restaurant and ordered some food to take with us on the road. The Horiatiki Salata and Vegetarian Pita are delicious!

I have been to Vasilis a couple of times with a friend who loves the place. I find it pretty good also, but a little high priced. The vegetarian selection is decent. I would go again if someone else suggests it.

Finally, I found a place in Santa Cruz where I can get my stuffed grape leaves. The atmosphere is very pleasant and homely. The staff is very nice and the food comes out pretty quick. I like the different wraps that you can get. And the prices are decent!

I was rather suprised the first time I came here that I could only get lamb or chicken in my gyro (I'm used to gyros meat of minced lamb and pork that one would find at most Greek restaurants). I thought the lamb meant gyro meat but instead was strips of lamb, which is something else entirely. I explained this to our waiter and he kindly offered to replace it with the chicken, which was very good. The tzatziki was fresh and chunky, and the fries were excellent! It was cute how the walls were filled with photos of the staff and customers hamming it up. I've been here a few times since and it's been consistently good.

This used to be a required stop for me whenever I ventured south, which was pretty often. Unfortunately, however, there has been a recent change of ownership that has really changed the atmosphere of the place BIG TIME. The service this last time I went .... and I do mean LAST time ... was very unfriendly. Particularly when it was discovered that we were out-of-towners. On a good note, the food was still great, but not good enough to bring me back ever again.

Cons: , Bad Service

A casual place with a funky atmosphere and great food at reasonable prices. Upon entering this small, friendly eatery you are immediately drawn to the myriad of nick-knacks and photos of patrons and staff that line the walls. Halloween photos, photos of Vasili himself balancing chairs in his teeth, etc. It's half the fun. The food is the other half. Get the flaming cheese appetizer, and don't forget to yell OPA! when Vasili himself comes out to light it for you. Enjoy with plenty of fresh crusty bread and you will probably be full before your entree arrives! Portions are very large. My BF had perfectly cooked spiced lamb loin chops... four of them!... plus rice, vegetables, potatoes -and- salad for $20. I had a thick, brick sized slab of fragrant pastitsio, rice, veggies and soup for $12.95. Very reasonable. Can't wait to go back and try more goodies.

UCSC students know Vasili's is the place to go in Santa Cruz for great Greek food. Although, these students also know that Vasili's rarely fits into a student budget because of its pricey menu.

Vasili has been faithfully serving the Santa Cruz community for many years now. Given its Mission/Bay location, the restaurant has always been popular with students, too. The food is superior to Greek food I've eaten just about anywhere and the atmosphere is unbeatable.

One time on a slow night our waitress just randomly sat down with us and hung out. Other times I've been lucky enough to be there during one the traditional shows with dancing.
