Brother's Korean Restaurant is one of the best Korean barbeque places in the country. The quality of the meat and the quality of the wooden charcoal are superb--the service, not so much. This is a place to go for food--not for atmosphere. Serious Korean food and barbeque lovers will be absolutely grateful that the restaurant exists.

I have been going to Brother's for years and it never fails to live up to expectations. They give fresh and varied side dishes and the meat portions are generous. They sometimes also give us a "service" dish (usually a stew) for free.

Frankly, I prefer Brother's II over the original, just because of the service. Last time we were there, I felt rushed. Totally uncool.

The food is still excellent though, especially the rare/raw meat thingy w/ the crunchy fruit (you can tell I didn't order, right?) but it was as fresh as any steak tartare at a decent French restaurant.

Oh yeah, loooong wait too. So, if this place doesn't take you sooner, definitely go to Brother's II next over.

I love the Brother's Restaurant. They are expensive as you need to order a minimum of 2 entrees, but it is so worth it. You can grill your own meat, chicken or seafood, and the side dishes are the best. I love the Jab Chae. The service is okay, they are not too friendly, but they do serve great Korean food!

One of my favorite Korean bbq places. It's pretty barebones decor but authentic. And the service is friendly and no-nonsense. Not once have I eaten there where the owner hasn't stopped by to see how things are going and to often times give something a little "on the house" extra. Great for small and large groups, the food is great and the most important thing is, you see a lot of Koreans eating there which attests to its authenticity. The employees at Qlubb love to go there for meetings although it's true, we all smell like bbq afterwards.

Good is very good. I usually get the kalbi and the bulgogi. Comes with a bunch of side dishes (panchan). You can opt to cook have them cook it or cook it yourself. Popular place. Weekend wait can be long. Don't wear the nice clothes since you will reek of bbq after. It's cool when the guy brings the freaky pail of glowing charcoal for the grill. Judging by the burns in the carpet some of the charcoal has escaped in the past.

i am from new york, where i'm used to korean food on 32nd street. the food here was ok. the restaurant is a little dirty and crowded. everything we ordered tasted ok - nothing special about this place. a little disappointing considering the reviews. overall, korean food in san francisco is nothing to write home about. the bbq was ok and they gave us some free dishes which was nice.

This is my family's favorite Korean BBQ to eat we always go here whenever we visit SF. My mom is korean and we're pretty picky about korean restaurants but this place is awesome. We usually just order meat a la carte style but one night we did the family bbq meals that are offered and the four of us had enough food to feed like 7 people. it isn't fancy by any means and it's always really crowded and smoky from all the grilling at each table but that just makes it more fun for me. it is super authentic and even if you don't bbq the other food on the menu is really good too. this is my favorite korean restaurant in SF, and pretty much my favorite restaurant outside of Korea.
Tip: ordering beef shortribs to grill are delicious, but if you order a chicken or pork (spicy daegee bulgogi) then you get waaaay more meat than with the beef.

I developed an addiction to Korean food when I lived in South Korea for a short period of time. If it's got a "Go Ki" at the end of it (eg, Bul Go Ki), or if it's been pickled in a stoneware jar and burried (Summer Kimchi), I'll eat it. I eat at a lot of different restaurants and at some high end places, but with few exceptions Brother's may be the best overall restaurant in San Francisco. It's definitely the best Korean this side of Seoul. Every dinner comes with a wide assortment of side dishes (oh, the Moo Chi!), and we always go through two of each. It gets very busy after 5:30 or 6:00 PM, especially on weekends, which is indicative of how good it is. However, the service is excellent and pleasant, even when it's busy.

Whenever I bring Korean relatives to this restaurant, they always make comments like "This is the best Korean restaurant food! It tastes home-made!" This is definitely the place to go if you want to introduce someone to what traditional Korean cuisine really tastes like. The prices are reasonable and I've never had a bad plate of food here. They are generous with the little side-dishes, too.

I've been here many times, but my last couple of visits have been disappointing. Once what I thought was exceptional korean bbq has now become very mediocre. The portions of each order is reduced and the quality is not as fresh anymore. I think they fell into the trap of relying on their past reputation of having superb food. Sorry to say the quality of food now is substandard and pricey. Probably would not come back considering there are other options for better korean bbq.

I read the other reviews and had high hopes for this place. But I just don't know what the big deal is! The BBQ was ok but the side dishes (ban chan) were terrible. Bland and terrible. And trust me, I know Korean food because I grew up on it. I was really disappointed. Surely there must be a better Korean restaurant in SF.

Ok, I did have problems with a two hour wait for a table and the perfunctory service we received after the wait, but all was forgotten and forgiven once we started eating - the food was incredible. Be prepared for a long wait, simple surroundings, and basic service, but the food is definitely worth it

When you go to Brother's, be prepared to leave smelling like food. My friends and I had the BBQ. Their prices are a little cheaper and I feel they give you more food than some of the other Korean Restaurants in the city. The restaurant itself isn't all that nice, but I like places like these. It seems more authentic. The service there isn't as good as other Korean Restaurants, but the food was really good! I'm still searching for my favorite Korean Restaurant.

The food and service is great smell but your clothes will end up smelly like charcoal by the end of the meal. The kimche, veggies and vermicelli are so fresh and the bbq pork, chicken and beef were so moist and flavorful. The place is usually packed but this makes for a fun atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Tabletop Korean-style BBQ is recommended. Soups are tastey without the MSG aftertaste. The red vinyl chairs are reminscent of a Chinese restaurant than Korean, but this place delivers on service and food. Even at 11:00 PM on a Tuesday night they happily seat you with a smile. Now that's what I call service!

The bbq pork, chicken, and beef were so flavorful. The pan fried fish was also delicious. We ordered the stone rice pots, also very tasty. The staff there were very friendly. They gave us a free order of soup and a plate of noodles. Be prepared to smell like charcol smoke afterwards, but the food is worth it.

This place is by far one of the best Korean resturants in town! The place itself is basic, plain and simple. But the food rocks! The kimchee and veggies are always fresh. The tofu soup there is good too but remember to specify level of spicyness! I have tried everything and it is all good. Only con is that its always packed with families and large and small crowds.

Would recommend making reservations on the weekend. Even with 6pm reservations, we had to wait for our table. The place was packed. You leave with a full tummy, smelling like BBQ for the rest of the evening. We ordered 4 plates - 2 Kal Bi, 1 Gol Bi and Shrimp Tempura. The beef dishes were well-marinated and tasty. The tempura came with a thick batter (I prefer a lighter batter) with huge portions compared to Japanese restaurants. We ordered a dumpling soup which we could've passed on. The restaurant gave us a vermicelli dish on the house. The meal came with about 10 or more sm side dishes, pickled vegts, spicy tofu, bean sprouts, lettuce, seaweed, dried sm fish. You have the option of cooking it over charcoal at your table (if sitting at one of the BBQ tables) or having the kichen cook for you.

Wednesday night - 6:15 dinner, party of 10. Thank goodness for reservations! This place was bumping when we walked in at 6 pm and left at 7:30 pm. We had beef, pork, squid, pancakes, and chop chae family style! Great place for large groups, but be warned that your clothes will definitely have a lingering scent once you leave this establishment.

Highly rated in Zagat restaurant guide, it's no wonder this place is always crowded. On Friday and Sat nights, not unheard of to wait at least an hour. Food is excellent. One note of caution, as soon as you walk out of there, your clothing will smell of the BBQ until you get it cleaned. As a hint, go to Brother's II just up the street. Same quality food with no wait times.

This place is stupendous. Ever wondered how much meat you can really eat all at once? Head over to Brother's. We went in a large group, and had a hard time keeping the owner from bringing us extra sodas and side dishes (on the house) to go with our beer and barbequed meats. This is a real family place. Don't miss out!

i'm not sure if those people who wrote the bad reviews went to the same place i've been going to for almost 10 years. the service can be slow but what do you expect when your packed (hence the wait) but the food is great and the sides have always been bottomless. it's just as good as i ate growing up. even my mom liked it.

The best time to go is during lunch time, because after lunch, the prices are too high for what you get. But if the food was extremely to die for, I probably wouldn't care about the price. The BBQ is okay, but it is certainly nothing to rave about.

I went to Brothers today because a few people recommend it to me and because of the reviews I saw here. I ordered the lunch special- BBQ pork and got 5 side dishes with it. Sure, it was cheap- only $6.95 but the portions were small and the veggie sides were not unlimited (like I'm used to at Korea House in Sunnyvale- which is GREAT!). My companion got the BBQ Pork which was under BBQed and lacked taste. The BBQ chicken was OK. I've had way more flavorful meat elsewhere- like Palace BBQ in Sunnyvale. I was disappointed in this place as I am looking for a Korean restaurant to replace the Sunnyvale ones. Can anyone suggest a better place in the city?

i've been comin' & stayin' away for years... service is very spotty these days... if/when you order "korean" short ribs, should they are served with no bones attached, send it back -- you've been ripped off!!! this has happened *twice* to me, with no forewarning of the substitution in advance... on those nights, order elsewhere off the menu... or elsewhere period... when they do "do it" right, it's *excellent* fare... if ya want *hot* say so, they'll make it korean hot on request...

The service was poor! The workers are rude! There was a rubberband in my Kim Chee soup. Two weeks later, I decided to give it a second chance. I requested an extra side order of Kim Chee, the man at the counter stated that if I wanted extra Kim Chee that I should go down the street to the Korean Market! I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone!

Despite all the other bad reviews, I would like to ask what Korean restaurant in SF tops this one??? Although not the hippest place to go to, the good is WELL worth it! Lunch specials before 2pm are excellent...bulgogi and kal bi so tender and flavorful, along with all the little appetizers! I have been to several Korean restaurants in the bay area and undoubtedly still believe this is the best place! True that LA's Korean cuisine cannot compare, but still have to give props to what IS good here at home!

If Brother's is the Best Korean restaurant in SF...then I feel sorry for SF. Not only was the food bland and tasteless, but the meat was tough and chewy. I have vowed to never step foot in here again. Here's an analogy: Brother's is to Koreans as Panda Express is to Chinese...in other words, NOT authentic. My mom and grandma would be ashamed that these "chefs" would feed the public with this crap and call it Korean food.

If you want the best Korean meal you've ever had, invest in a trip down to L.A. If you can't make it down to LA, at least go to Oakland or Sunnyvale/SJ.
