First of all,I am NOT going to "sugar-coat" this review...I am going to say it like it TRUELY IS!! (so to all those who may be offended by the language that I am about to use here...This may as well NOT be a record / music store for you anyways.) Second of all, the store owner owner Richard is an A__HOLE!! Back in 2002, due to an incedent at my home in Bakersfield that left a section of my library of vinyl records destroyed, I desperatelt was seeking out a copy of "Steve Forbert - Jackrabbit Slim", and "Gary Numan - The Pleasure Principle" I contacted Cheap Thirlls via phone one evening, after they advertised in the Bakersfield edition of the "Pacific Bell / AT&T Yellow Pages" phone directory stating that "They had a better selection then Bakersfield" They refused to check their inventory for the 2 mentioned titles saying it was against store policy for then to do vinyl requests over the phone (That was such a lame-duck, retarded policy...If it even exsists!) ALL their vinyl selections are very well organised and in aphabetical order by artists so it would only take a few seconds to check on the availebility of the vinyl I requested BEFORE i was to make the 124-mile drive from my house in Bakersfield down CA State Hwy 166 / US 101, to prevent my making the 250 mile round trip for nothing. Instead of doing the availebility check on the 2 vinyl record titles I requested, (which would only have taken about maybe 2 to 5 minutes at the most), the b__ch (Allison) who answered the phone not only refused to check for me BUT argued with me on the phone for over an hour, when I continued to insist on a check for the titles....Now ask yourself HOW stupid ON THEIR PART is that? Next day I recontacted the store and this time Richard answered the phone, and after I mentioned the titles, He immediatly stated "You are the a__hole who continued to Harass us last night on the phone...I don't do buisiness with you, and you are NOT to come into the store EVER again" then he hung up on me, I called back and attemped to confront him about the FALSE advertisement in the phone book of "We have better selection in Bakersfield" He then threatened me with law inforcement ( i am sure the San Luis Obispo Police were going to drive all that 124 miles via Hwy 166 just to arrest me for shopping for records and standing for my right to get fair costomer service!!) I searched for those two vinyl titles for quite some time (ended up buying a copy of the Gary Numan LP on Ebay) But the "Steve Forbert-Jackrabbit Slim" (Featuring the lovesong "Romeo's Tune") was so rare on vinyl that no one even had a copy on Ebay. Soon after I had a local friend (Who own a very popular music store here in Bakersfield) call Cheap thrills and confront Richard on his "dirty advertising" and Richard had admitted that he had NEVER been to Bakersfield in his life! Ever since then, (Up until they stopped advertising in the phonebook due to popularity of advertising on the internet),The ad in the Bakersfield Edition of the AT&T Yellow pages by Cheap Thrills states "Better selection then Fresno stores"...How retarded is THAT?? Who even from Bakersfield goes to Fresno to shop for music anyways?... NOT MANY!! (Most go to Southern California cities like L.A. and San Diego) I have spent thousands of dollars on vinyl in San Diego stores! (but still NO "Steve Forbert-Jacrabbit slim" on vinyl) Finally I pulled a stunt OUT-SMARTED richard and his crew at Cheap Thrills..one day in 2004, I entered the store disguised as a NAZI Skinhead, I had just shaved my head at the request of my then girlfriend, and I used a Sharpie marker and drew a big swastika on my forehead and added a little make-up to look gothic. Just minutes later I entered the store and went about my buisiness (as I normally do, trying to avoid any confrontations) Within about 90 SECONDS, I had a copy of "Steve Forbert-Jackrabbit Slim" in hand, went to the front counter and paid for it and left the store WITHOUT incedent. (Appearently Richard was not working that day, nor was Allison!) opon the return to my truck I used a napkin soaked in acetone to remove the felt marker-drawn swastika from my forehead! then I went into the restroom of a nearby fast-food restaurant and cleaned the rest of the make-up off my face in order to return to "civilian life" Best advise is DO your music shopping elseware when making special trips out of Bakersfield to shop for music! But I must admit that Cheap Thrills does have a fairly good selection (not the best) I would rate the selection at about 3 out of 5 But I would rate Cheap Thrills a ZERO out of 5 for Richards jerk-off attitude, and the lack of ANY costomer service to phone costomers from out of town!

Cheap Thrills is great! They have a huge selection of used CDs, DVDs and video games. They also have cassettes and CDs of local artists. The prices are really good and a lot of times you can find some really old music that is hard to find. The one drawback that I have found is that they usually have really obnoxious music playing very loudly in the store - but I guess I can't complain since it is a music store. They will buy your used CDs, DVDs and video games, but they do not pay a lot. You are better off to trade for items in the store.
