These burgers may seem out of this world expensive, but like the name implies there is something just so good about them. I like the fig and bacon. It's sweet and savory all at the same time. Get the sweet potato fries. You won't regret

Their hamburgers were pretty good along with their potatoes, but as for a business itself, its stops right there. The place is small and gets really stuffy, and the service was very mediocre. Our waiter never smiled and was very rude.

So I'm obviously not here to rate the meat burgers...
I've been wanting to try the Earth burger, and everyone was raving so I gave it a shot. I ordered the Earth Burger and a side of sweet potato fries. After waiting for more than 30

Umami Burger serves the best burger in LA, hands down! The truffle burger is my absolute favorite and their ketchup is homemade! My waitress, Nicole, rocked! The service was amazing and the food was delicious!

The food is tasty, and the ambiance is pleasing but the buck should stop there. Unfortunately, you will spend several bucks just to tease your appetite. Go if your into paying a lot to 'fit in and be coool'.

We brought guests here in town from NY. I made a reservation for 5 people plus a baby (who slept the entire time in his car seat so he was fine). The host was obviously not listening to me when he wrote down the reservation for 4 including the kid. Wrong. The host and one of the waiters proceeds to tell us to have a drink in the wine bar (not on them) while we wait for 15-20 minutes for the next table (turned out to be 35 minutes). They really did nothing to try to make up for their error.
When we finally get a table, we are treated to the most inept waiter on the planet. We had to ask for place settings, had to ask for water refills, had to ask for more drinks, had to ask him to clear plates off the table. This is a tapas restaurant, there are a lot of plates and not once did he give us new plates to eat off of. He also put a wrong order it and took forever to come back to the table.
Luckily, the food is great and can stand on its own even with the terrible staff; otherwise it would have been a completely miserable experience. Does management not train anyone?? Now that I mention it, not sure if there was any type of manager there.
Unfortunately, we really enjoyed the food but the service was so unapologetic, that I will never go back there again.

Pros: Food is great if you can stomach the staff

Cons: staff is not to smart and are happy to be that way

(It is not my job to defend this restaurant, my wife and I are looking for a good place to go)

Your credit card company will often authorize 20% of the gross amount, not the restaurant or even their merchant services company is responsible for doing this. Visa, MC, Amex does this to ensure that there is room enough for you to leave a tip, using the standard 20%, as the person below states. In a few days, that amount will be replaced with the amount you actually tipped, even if it's zero. It can become alarming or even an inconvenience but it's not the the restaurant's fault. Having an inept manager on the other end of the line unable to properly explain the situation is quite another thing. The reader states he/ she was a bartender in a past life but not having run across this situation before is surprising to me.

You'll almost get the same experience here like the Cobras on Beverly Blvd. Same great food! They do have their own wine bar with an eclectic collection of imported wines. The restaurant is almost 4 times bigger. You can actually have a conversation during your dinner and you're not rubbing elbows with your neighbors. Service is not up to par in this location. But overall, this place is a great spot in Los Feliz.

Firstly, we have eaten at C&M's several times (both locations) and had a really good time. On our most recent visit, we went with another couple. When bill time came, everyone had cash but me, so I put the whole thing on my credit card and collected everyone's cash and used it to leave a generous tip. I tended bar for nearly ten years and always tip AT LEAST 20%. I also know that we always preferred to be tipped in cash, so I zeroed out the tip on the receipt and did just that. Three days later, when the charges showed up, the C&M staff saw fit to add in another 20% to my credit card despite my having zeroed out the tip. I called and talked to the manager who seemed quite smug and arrogant about the whole thing. He did not even offer so much as an apology.
As much as I sometimes wanted to mess with the tip section of a receipt when I was bartending, we never would have as it is UNETHICAL and DISHONEST.
You guys are jerks for that and we won't be back!

Cobras on Hollywood has become one of my favorite restaurants again!

I used to live around the corner and come here all the time, absolutely hooked on their artichoke and goat cheese croquettes, sweet potato fries and french toast. It sure has made a lot of changes! The first difference is the new wine bar called Sgt. Recruiter, which for some reason is a French Bistro in a Spanish Tapas joint. I'm not complaining, mind you. We came on a busy Friday night with no reservations, and the wine and cheese we ordered at the bar made the 45 minute wait more palatable.

Anyway - once we sat down, just about the only thing I recognized about the menu was my beloved artichoke croquettes! Our server explained that there's a new chef who revamped the menu about two weeks ago. I was a little nervous not to have my standbys (many things wrapped in bacon) but decided to explore. We started with the croquettes of course, but also got rosemary shrimp and grilled octopus. The shrimp were good, I didn't care for the bed of citrusy fennel underneath it, but I left that for those that like such things. The grilled octopus were phenomenal! Tender, grilled perfectly - I love me some cephalapods, and it's easy to cook them wrong and rubbery, this was not the case here. Then a few of us decided to go for the paella - a bounty of seafood and meat arrived at the table: shellfish, shrimp, chicken, sausage and trout mixed with firm yet moist rice. I also tried some of the duck confit salad which was very good as well.

Time for dessert! Me = creature of habit. French Toast. Yum. Others at the table got a bowl of strawberries in sangria, and the flan. The strawberries look a little boring, but they are delicious!

I wish I lived on this side of town so I could walk here (considering the amount of wine we all drank - I'm glad someone else drove)

Definitely make reservations if you're coming on the weekend, unless you don't mind hanging out in the bar while you wait.

Cons: Loud inside - I recommend the patio

I had dinner there last night. The "B" rating on the front door should have been enough of a warning. The service was nice and everyone was attentive however the food was TERRIBLE! We ordered the mussels. EW!!! EWWW!! They were the worst mussels I've ever has in my life. I thought maybe it was just me and I was being picky (after I ate 3 of them it ruined my appetite...) because my boyfriend kept eating them. However, we decided not to order anything else there and left. After we left he said the mussels tasted like they'd been fished out of long beach harbor. (he didn't send them back because he didn't want to hurt our server's feelings.) The other two things we ordered were patties of grease (tainted with the smell of those nasty mussels). Worst meal I've had all year. Seriously. Not exaggerating.

A friend and I had dinner here last night and were so dissapointed! The service was great but the food...my goodness! If you're expecting any kind of authentic spanish tapas, this place is not the place to go. Our waitress HIGHLY recommended the lentils (said they were best sellers!), and when we got them, they were like little crispy ants in a dish. They tasted and SOUNDED (yes sounded) literally burnt to a crisp! The sugar chili prawns were mushy and really gross. Guess it doesn't help that we lived in spain for 4 months, but I've had better out here. Will not return...unless it's for the olives and sangria.

Cons: Food - Stay away from the crispy ants (aka LENTILS)

We always have a great time here, our all time favorites are the bacon wrapped prawns, sweet potato fries, bacon wrapper figs, steak very tender, and cooked to perfection, and asparagus dish with nuts. Great Sangria, gets to you pretty quickly. The pace is very busy; therefore, I would recommend reservations in advance. We always sit in the area of our favorite waiter, Anthony. The Maitre'd, has always been very attentive and accommodating. Great place for larger groups. We always wonderful time, and will come back sometime soon.

But! I've never gone there and not had something intensely entertaining happen at a nearby table. From excessively shiny girls taking pictures of each other to an awkward (and failed) marriage proposal--this place has got it all. The food? Fine, but should be about 20% cheaper. The wine selection is good, but overpriced. And sometimes the corners smell of ant spray. But, again: the people watching. Good.

I was SO excited to try Cobras and Matadors. I love tapas, it's one of my absolute favorite foods, and I had yet to find a good tapas restaurant in LA.

Unfortunately, I am still looking for a good tapas restaurant in LA because this was not it. The food was okay, but not great. And the small plates were honestly too expensive. They were the price of normal plates at a normal restaurant. The whole point of tapas is to get multiple small plates!

So sadly, my quest for good tapas continues. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant.

A group of friends and I went last night. It is a very cool looking spot. I liked the decor a lot. And we were very pleased to see Ryan Gosling hanging out with a group of friends. I think this place is great for an intimate/romantic date. There were four people in our group. Two of whom had never been to a tapas restaurant before and were concerned about portion sizes and sharing. The waitress assured us that each plate was plenty to share with a group of four people. She lied! The portions were extremely small! I've been to a few tapas restaurants before and these portions were considerably smaller than what I had experienced in the past. The average tapas entree cost around $15. That can add up really quick when you have to keep ordering just to make sure the whole group gets at least halfway full. The food itself was really good! The bacon wrapped prawns were fantastic! However, as i said, the waitress said the portion sizes were large enough to feed a group of four, yet only 3 prawns came in the entree! That meant that we couldn't even get one prawn each!!!! Ugh! The $18 skirt steak was really good, as well. Very tender. But way too small to share. The grilled salmon was excellent, but once again, way too small to share. The sangria was really good and so were the churros and flourless chocolate cake. Excellent! Besides the portion sizes and prices, my only other complaint was the personality of our waitress. She was 'cordial' but rather sour and aloof. Anyway, by the end of the night, including tip our bill came to $197. Fabulous. It's truly a genius concept to get money out of people. You feel like in order to get full, you MUST keep ordering plates of food! So your bill just grows and grows. Ha! However, all in all, I will probably go again. But next time, I will eat before going and be more savvy about how to order.

I always have a great experience here, my favorites are the lentils, bacon wrapped prawns, paella, and the sweet potato fries! Great wine list! It does get very busy so I would recommend reservations. They just opened a new wine bar that is attached called "Sergeant Recruiter", which is a 13 seat bar with amazing wines a great food! It's a very small menu but the Steak Frites was AMAZING...the steak was so tender, cooked just right. I also loved the raw oysters! I'd like to see Escargot on the menu! Really cool little addition to Cobras! The Maitre'd , who is actually the manager has always been very attentive and accommodating. This one is definitely better than the original one for larger groups.

BE WARNED - the maitre d' is a TOTAL tool and nothing will get me to revisit this place again because of the rude service our party received.

Despite having a reservation for a party of 4, the maitre d' insisted on seating us at a table for two as we were arriving separately to our guests. When we proceeded to order for the table, the waiter asked where the other two people were going to sit. Our point exactly. He went to speak to the maitre d' but returned shaking his head and apologizing that the maitre d's rudeness has been costing them a lot of return business.

When our guests arrived shortly behind us, rather than seating us at the table for four right next to our table, the maitre d' made us all wait whilst he had a crappy, noisy table right by the front door set up to seat four just to make his point. He didn't even have our food and drinks brought over so we had to do that ourselves too.

I will never go back there again! Please do yourselves a favor, go to Dennys , they probably have hostesses with better manners.

Very unpleasant experience.

Not only was the food at Cobras overpriced for what you got ($18 for a tiny piece of steak), but our waitress was the only waitress for more than half of the restaurant. We waited at least 30 minutes to order a second glass of wine and more tapas. Then again 30 more minutes to ask for an additional tapa. I could see her helping large tables of 8 or more and knew she wouldn't be back for a while. At one point everyone on the patio was stretching their head to find her. I was thinking that one of the waiteresses called in sick, but when I asked the for the manager another waiter told me that the manager often puts one waiteress in charge of a large area and then shook his head annoyingly. I would avoid this place if you want to have a decent sized meal and good service.

Love this place! Do not expect authentic Spanish tapas or you will be disappointed. Do, however, expect very tasty small dishes, a fabulous wine list, and a lively atmosphere. Some of my favorites: the complimentary olives and spiced almonds, cheese plate, chorizo and potato omelette, lentils with bits of ham, and the "lomo embuchado"....all lovely. Pair these with a bottle of Condado de Haza Ribera del Duero and you will leave very very happy. Everyone raves about the french toast dessert but after several attempts I find myself wondering what the fuss is about. I'm an avid baker and dessert lover and just don't bother with dessert here anymore. If you simply must have dessert and coffee, head around the corner to Figaro for something that's really worth the calories.

I first ate at this location a week after it opened and I swore I would never return. But I did, and I am so glad. The wine was excellent, and the tapas great, especially the chick pea cakes. It's a great place to go with friends or for a date, and the menu is great because you can eat a little or a lot, vegetarian or not, it's all yummy. The decor is nice, dark and cozy but not too dark. Ser vice was perfect, attentive but not overbearing. The only negative - I sat outside and my wine bucjet had to be kept on the floor nect to my table. They need to invest in some wine stands or those little buckets that attach to the tables.

Cons: more room on tables

This is an awesome place to go with a bunch of people, their Spanish wine selection is unparalleled -- and the prices are quite reasonable. The food does run a bit expensive and some of the courses are better than others -- I recommend the lentils and the soca cakes.
Come ready to drink, and nibble, but I wouldn't come starving.

Pros: Delicious wines, unique decor, great for groups

Cons: can be a bit loud, food is expensive and not that good

.

The food here is excellent, a little pricey though, depending on your appetite a dinner for two can run you up to $120 to $150. I absolutely love the cheese courses, the albondigas, the skirt steak with melted goat cheese, chorizo omelate with potatoes [one of my favorites], etc., I can say anything you choose from the menu is going to be delicious and will leave you wanting more. Tapas is like small plates, lil appetizers, the problem is that Cobra's charges you for these small plates as if they are full entrees, which I find a little wrong. In Spain you could have 5 dishes of tapas and you won't spend more than $30 dollars and that's with the euro. The sangria is the best I have ever had, its smooth fruity and doesn't have an overpowering alcohol taste which is very delicious, although a pitcher costs $30. I don't know what kind of wine they use, but $30 is a lot of money for a pitcher of sangria. I just don't think the prices are very fair. This place is so trendy now, you have to call in the reservation a day in advance to get a table, so I reccommend calling in ahead of time.

Pros: Wonderful dishes, best sangria

Cons: A lil trendy, overpriced

the host, chef and staff are genuinely friendly and accommodating. this is one of those places that feels like the staff wants you there. its much less pretentious than the beverly location and the food is much better. slightly different menus. the steak with manchego, skirt steak marinated in orange juice, socca cakes, and french toast are favorites. its great for groups and an overall fun time. i go about 3 times a month and take all out of town guests for a fun time. definitely one of the best places on the east side.

Growing up a foodie, this is some of the best I have ever tasted in LA! More like appetizers than traditional tapas, every bite of everything I had here was amazing- in fact, at times it was almost overwhelming it was so good. The servers are knowledgable as to what is good on the menu and they have an incredible and delicious selection of wines in gracious servings that are not over priced like many other Hollywood and Silverlake restaraunts. Though Cobras is a little pricey (expect to spend $50 or so for a party of 2) I think it is well worth it, and perfect for those special occasion dinners. Though I have only been there as a party of 2, I think it would be more fun to go with slightly larger groups in order to try more foods without having to worry about finishing it all yourself. Oh, and they have the best flan in the entire universe- like nothing you ever expected- the texture is somewhere between a creme brulee and a bananas foster. Need I say more? Plan on making reservations, otherwise you may wait up to an hour or more on weekends.

Pros: AMAZING food and wine, romantic and fun chill vibe

Cons: A little more expensive, very busy, occasionally understaffed

.

Probably fun for rich groups of people - otherwise it is simply overpriced, unfriendly, pretentious, and untasty.

Pros: olives

Cons: over-proced, poor service, poor tapas selection

During my visits at busier times I've noticed wait-service can be a little sparse. However, the servers have always had great attitudes and have been helpful with wine selection.
I can't say enough about their wine menu. Lots of great Spanish reds. The food is mmm mmm good! and, I think, affordable for such tasty food. Love that you can order a variety of small plates to share. two thumbs up.

I love tapas bars... Cobras & Matadors is definitely high on my list for this specific reason. It can be expensive and but you gotta live a little sometimes, right. They serve you spiced almonds and olives right off the bat which is a good way to whet your appetite. My friend and I always get the sangria, skirt steak and Mojo de Ajo (grilled prawns)... highly recommended! I tried the lamb, which was pretty good too.

Went to Cobras & Matadors with the Inlaws last night. We couldn't get in at the Beverly location (our usual destination) so we finally tried their Hollywood location. Less cramped, less rushed, better service. Doug took care of the Inlaws who asked for the music to be turned down. The food was all very good and seem to keep coming all night. One complaint, they ran out of the French Toast. We had three different bottles of wine recommended by our waiter they were all great and very affordable. The place felt great and we can't wait to return.

I was so happy with my dinner at Cobras & Matadors last night. We had to wait at the wine bar for our reservations but the bartender recommended the most delicious Cava, so we did not mind the wait. Once we were seated, our server also made some helpful recommendations off of the menus. I especially loved the skirt steak and the lentils. Our bill was reasonable considering how much food we ordered. We dine out every Saturday and 9 times out of 10 end up waiting for our reservation so this night was no different. We will be back.

I came here for my birthday listning to all of the hype surrounding it. Although I had reservations and came on time, my guest and I were seated in a small table in a dark corner. I couldn't even read the menu. The service was awful. I saw the waitress twice- once when she came to take my order and once when my food came. The food was below average. We got lots of tapas dishes and they were substandard. The shrimp didn't taste fresh at all and I couldn't even eat it.
Take your money elsewhere. This place is a bust.

I just returned from Cobras and had the Soca Cakes, Fried Lentils, Shrimp and some Clam dish. They were all amazing. I also like the spacious room and that I was able have some great wines at a decent price. The menu was similiar to the other cobras, but this one is much larger and more comfortable.

The food is good. It's a little expensive. The cheese slices on the cheese plate are way too big--they need to cut them into thinner slices. That's my only complaint!

I eat at this Cobras and Matadors regularly because it is around the corner from my apartment. I take everyone here, friends, dates, my parents everyone loves it. The food is fabulous and the service is great. Perhaps a bit on the loud side on a crowded night (which is most nights). I highly recommend the socca cakes!!

Reservations are a must!

I have also been to the Cobras and Matadors on Beverly and have to say, the Hollywood location is far and away the better restaurant. The food is better and the service is WAY better.

I had been wanting to try this restaurant for quite a while and was glad I finally did. My husband & I walked in without a reservation on a busy Saturday night. The host was very accommodating and sat us within about 20 minutes. The decor is dark and romantic, great for a date. The portions are small (they're tapas!) but very tasty. The goat cheese & artichoke croquettes were awesome as was the salmon. The skirt steak was a little tough. Our waitress was helpful and attentive. The wine was excellent. Yes, this place is pricey ($120 inc. tip for 5 plates & 2 glasses of wine each ... should have gotten a bottle, doh!) but worth it for a special night out.

Longed to try this new restaurant in Los Feliz but was sadly disappointed. We were seated in a corner by the kitchen, while plenty other seating that was supposedly reserved but remained available for the duration of our meal. Interiors were mediocre at best. The lamb was good but the portions left you wanting. Don't order the shrimp-absolutely. When you spend $70 on a meal, you shouldn't leave hungry. We won't be back.

This place is perfect for dates since the space is intimate, the lighting low and the food in small portions so ladies can eat w/o fear of overeating. My favorites are their goat cheese and grapes, green lentils and chickpea crepes. The drawback is service, specifically this one waitress I always end up with. She barely attends to my table and when she does I get a side of attitude. Avoid valet; there usually is plenty of street parking nearby. Good for a group that wants to nosh but isn't too hungry b/c the meal can get expensive fast.

I think everyone who gave this place a bad review is stupid!

After eating at Iberico in Chicago for years, this is the first place that is even remotely comparable to it. The food was great, not even a piece of garnish was left on the plate. The atmosphere was fun, the interior was urban eclectic, and our waitor was only on his second day and besides having to read the specials from a piece of paper he was very nice and very cute.

I think that our waitress was busy thinking about getting her headshot taken instead of waiting on us. One of the other servers rolled his eyes when we asked him where our server was ... he was nice enough to help us out with our drinks after we had been sitting there for a while. The food is not quite Spanish, but it was tastey! Another thing; The Los Feliz location allows BYOB ... save you booze cash and spend it on the food instead.

Los Feliz has lots of great restaurants, this one is not one of them. We had one beet arugula salad, very good but no arugula, the sardine tapa, the only good tapa, tastless prawns con ajo that you had to peel yourself, so bad we did not eat them, tough overcooked stuffed squid and a pitcher of watery sangria(30 bucks). Over seventy dollars with tip then 5 bucks to park and left hungry. No way. Anybody got a better idea?
