Madras Cafe is one of the best restaurants I have ever visited in US so far. The South Indian buffet they serve is truly enjoyable. If you are in San Diego, make sure you visit Madras Cafe.

I LOVE it here. My friend brought me here to introduce me to South Indian food and I absolutely fell in love with it. I've tried Northern Indian food many times, it was great to switch it up and try something different. Southern Indian food is more bread orientated & more dry foods than curries like you'll see in most Indian Restaurants. The food was absolutely delicious and I would totally recommend it to anyone!

If you like South Indian-style dosas and curries, you'll love this restaurant. The food is very good and the portions are a great value. I like to go on evenings when they offer thalis (plates that come with an appetizer, several curries, rice, pappadum, and dessert). The fried idli appetizer (can't remember the name) is awesome. The sambhar idli is also great if you want to avoid fried foods.

It was around 7:30pm on a Sunday evening. I had been there alone after reading the reviews here. I waited at a table for quite some time as the waiters passed by and passed at me as if I was blocking their business. I could understand the reason as I could see a queue building up in the waiting are where people had come as a family (more than 2). Here I was all alone. Their dodging perhaps could have been make me feel unattended and stir the emotions in me which would thereby prompt me to get out of the place. But, I stay put determined to taste some south Indian food and pen my review here. I dont want to comment on the price because I have not checked out any other south Indian restaurant in San Diego. I ordered for a plate of parata-kurma. It was price at $6.95. I was expecting something like what they give in saravana bhavan back home. I was a in for disappointment. The south Indian filter coffee was ok. All the reviews I have read here extol the dosa served there. I should have tried the tested track. Well, if you go alone you may not be well received. Go as a gang. Have a nice time with the dosas.

I had been to this place in 2002. The dosas were very good. Also they have decent buffet on week days. Menu is not extensive but the items served are good.
