I recently adopted a dog from the shelter that was sent to warren animal hospital. The employee's in the hospital were extremely rude and unattentive to my concerns. They were more innterested in selling medication my dog did not need than the actual care of my dog. I had to take my dog to another vet to correct the damage that was done by warren clinic. Please think twice before taking your animals to an overpriced butcher that sole concern is to squeeze as much money out of you as possible.

My Fiancee and I adopted a bunny from the City of Los Angeles Animal Services North Central Shelter on Jan 31.We had a horrible time with this hospital, as detailed below. As instructed, We picked up the rabbit on Tuesday, Feb 3rd from the Warren Animal Hospital at 2417 Riverside Dr, Los Angeles. This was the veterinary hospital that the shelter had chosen. We also called in to make sure that they could operate and were familiar with rabbits, to which they responded affirmatively. We received a certificate of castration, signed by the vet Arturo Martin, which indicated that the rabbit had been neutered on Feb 2 and was male.We were instructed by the vet, Arturo Martin, not to feed or give water to the rabbit for one day. This was incorrect, because you are not supposed to deprive a rabbit of food or water prior or after surgery. Afterwards, he told us that it would be ok to feed the rabbit when we got him home, since they had not fed it since it arrived at the vet on monday. We picked up this rabbit Tuesday evening, which meant that this rabbit had not eaten for 1.5 days! The vet recommended that we purchase an antibiotic, amoxicillin, which we did. We only fed our rabbit one dose, but we later learned that amoxicillin is not recommended for rabbits, and can even be fatal. I remember very directly asking the vet if we needed to return to remove any stitches, or if the stitches were dissolvable. He said that for neutering, it was just an incision and there were no stitches. Keep in mind, we were also given a certificate of castration that confirmed that the rabbit had been neutered in writing. We took our rabbit to our trusted vet office, Torrance harbor animal hospital, where he was seen by Dr. Summer Wetzel. She then confirmed to us that our rabbit, which the vet had confirmed to be a boy, was indeed a girl. Furthermore, she had METAL sutures that they never told us about! The hospital had told us that there was no need for a follow up visit; if we had not taken the rabbit to another vet, these metal sutures would have been left in our rabbit, due to the shelter hospital's instruction, for much longer! We feel that this appalling treatment is unacceptable and is a deeply inhumane way to treat our animal companions. For first time rabbit adopters, this vet can be very misleading, and also endanger the animal's well being. We were fortunate to be happy parents to other bunnies, but even we made mistakes due to his ill advice. On top of it, the cost of further check ups to another vet was significant, in addition to the adoption fee that the shelter charged. Most importantly, we are concerned about other animals from this shelter that are being treated by this Warren Animal Hospital. We also volunteer at an animal shelter, and I can tell you that this vet had no compassion or care for our rabbit. His attitude and his way of handling our rabbit gave us the impression that he did not care for her well being. Please, do not take your animal to this hospital!

I've been a client for over 15 years. I am also a member of a local animal rescue organization.
This is a no frills veterinarian. They have always been competent, never overcharged, and never tried to get me to buy services or product I did not need.
They offer special discounts for rescued animals, and they both support the rescue community and are recommended by members of the rescue community.
Like a previous reviewer said, if YOU want to be pampered this is not the right place. If you want reasonably priced and competent care for you pet, this is a great neighborhood vet.

If you look up any review on any Vet, you will see some bad reviews. Not everyone is going to be happy.
I had taken my dog to Dr. Martin for her full 18 years of life. He was the sole vet for her and she lived a full life. Later in life she developed cancerous tumors and Dr. Martin took care of her, and we were able to extend her life for many more years.
He has also performed surgery on my cat, who was mauled by a dog. Everything went smoothly.
They are straight to the point. They do explain everything with the procedure with you. They never pushed me with the bills. It's neighborhood Vet and there is no BS. No shoulders to cry on, just great care.
If you need to be consoled, then you might look else where. If your looking for a straight to the point, honest vet, with reasonable prices, then give them a try. Twenty years and I can vouch for his care.

I have taken my dog of 12 years there for 10 years now. Dr. Martin has taken excellent care of him. My dog has - granted - been in good health aside from some minor skin tumors and an over growth on his eye. All removed surgically and my baby boy has done well. Did I mention that Dr. Martin will not Rape you. Your wallet that is. Great care for both your pet and wallet.

I had just recently adopted a beautiful female Am-Staff puppy from the North Central Animal Shelter and was informed that they would be sending her to Warren Animal Hospital to have her spayed. They told me I would be able to pick her up the next day. The next day came and I called about 5 times asking when I needed to leave work to get her. I would get an attitude and no answer....When I finally received an answer, they told me to pick her up at 6pm! (the time they close). When I went there, I had to wait for about 20 minutes before the man at the front desk acknowledged my existence. When I finally received my precious girl, he handed her over like a piece of meat..with his hand touching her stitches! When I looked at my girl I was in shock to see that her spaying was a botched job and was still bleeding! The stitching looked like it had been done by an amateur! My poor puppy was in pain for 2 weeks and now has an ugly scar on her underbelly that will be there forever.

Some people don't like their children. Some love their children. So it is with pets. I applaud those out their that feel their animals are like their children; they are lucky to have you.Me and my adult children treat and love our cats like children. We should ban together for eights for animals, they have no voice. In reference to the lady whose cat died, this is just awful. Thank you for informing us. For a doctor to accept a pet then not treat it is criminal and is animal abuse.Doctors who do not care about their patients should leave and dig ditches. I don't care about them like they did not care about this cat. Don't go there.

I feel compelled to write after reading folks calling Dr. Martin a butcher. What bs. I have been taking my dogs and cats there for 20 years, and he and his staff are wonderful, caring, and PRACTICAL animal care workers. I don't buy into treating your pets like children - they are not. If the quality of life for an animal is going to be too compromised, Dr. Martin will tell you that. And it hurts him too. Nothing but respect for him and his staff.

They have been well cared for. When I lived in North Hollywood One of my dogs had a problem with calcium stones. I took him to the Vet there and it cost me over 2000 dollars to "fix" the problem. Two years later it was back and he could not urinate. The Vet recommended surgery to permanently fix the problem by creating a new hole for my dog to urinate through. Since then he has not had a problem. Also less severe issues such as Eye or Ear infections have been handled professionally and quickly. I should mention I am "one of those" dog people who consider them to be a part of my family, like if I had children. The doctor certainly gets to the point..but he treats my babies well and they come out better than when they went in. I question some of these other reviewers, and pray to god they are wrong for the sake of the animals, but my numerous experiences add up to a different story. P.S. I agree that the place is rundown and and not pristine, the lobby is small but what is more important great care or a nice lobby? The doctors examining room is clean and my dogs are healthy, That to me matters most.

Warren Animal Hospital is a great place to take your pet. The staff is warm and friendly, obviously animal lovers. Service is efficient. Scheduling an appointment is easy, and walk-in's are welcome. It is an easy place to travel to. You'll be satisfied with the service you receive.Dr. Martin was kind, professional and answered all of my questions. He showed a great deal of wisdom and tact in how to deal with my 16 year old kitty and I during a difficult time, which I truly appreciate. This is a truly busy practice. As a responsible pet parent, I came prepared with all the documents I needed, and communicated my needs and my pet's needs clearly with the doctor and staff. I cannot say the same of the volunteers who came to pick up shelter pets and of the other owners who came through the front door, who despite the best efforts of the vet's front desk were taken to task by these volunteers and pet owners for things that THEY as responsible pet owners were responsible for, not the front reception desk. i.e.- one volunteer came to pick up a dog without any paperwork or information about the dog. The volunteer did not have a leash or carrier for the dog. This volunteer was horribley rude to the vet front receptionist who was trying to assist, but as the volunteer had no information or paperwork, it made the situation next to impossible.

I have taken all my animals there for quite a few years and have never had a bad experience. Dr. Martin was always friendly and informative about whatever he was going to do. It's a simple animal clinic with simple prices. I recommended many people to him and they were always satisfied.

There is a feeling in the rescue community now where rescuers are growing more and more reluctant to take dogs from North Central shelter because they are sent to Warren, and it's starting to bleed over to East Valley. Warren is a butcher shop; they recently told one of our volunteers "No we never suture the scrotum after a neuter, we do it like farm animals." Rescuers know now that taking a dog who has been altered at Warren means a guaranteed vet bill of $500-1,000 just to repair the damage that doctor has done, and he should have his license revoked. The facility is filthy, the staff inept, and the doctor an offense to veterinary medicine.
Our latest experience...a 6 lb. rescued Chi hospitalized with major complications, bill at $1000 so far. Our rescued 8lb Pom mix came back with one testicle!!! Are they cutting down on cost??

Warren animal Hospital are un caring BUTCHERS!!
Under no circumstances should you ever take your animal to Warren animal hospital!!!!! If you ever want to see your animal again, do not put your loving trusting animal in their hands. We recently to took our cat Boo to this vet when we had an emergency ( Dr. Martin is not capable or equipped for surgery!!) Our cat had a major laceration in her lower back due to broken glass. We rushed her in and the Dr. told us that she would be fine and he would operate the next day. I went into the office first thing on Wed. morning and saw my darling kitty. She was alert and purring!! I then had another meeting with the Dr. and he told me she would be fine and returning to me in a couple days. On Thursday I spoke with the receptionist and she told me my kitty had just gotten out of surgery and she was fine. We were shocked when Dr. Martin called us Friday morning and informed us that Boo had indeed passed away. He informed us that she NEVER received surgery and it was a "miscommunication" Also, he told me that on Thursday evening when she died, it was the first time since we brought her in that anyone even checked her wound or changed her bandages!!!! My poor baby was sitting in a cage for two days left to die by a staff that could care less about an animal's life. Sure, Dr. Martin may be able to treat fleas but he could not be bothered to save a life. When we called back to further inquire about what happened to BOO, a receptionist named John, told me that it was indeed our fault that Boo died!!!! This is the most unprofessional and uncaring Vet I have ever experienced. These people DO NOT deserve the right to work in animal care. Money is the bottom line for these butchers!!!!!! They are lazy, un clean and worst of all un caring. This animal was not just "some black cat" she was an important part of our Hearts and Home. The void she has left behind is bleak and never ending. She has left behind her sister Smoosh who is still meowing looking for her best friend and playmate. I have spent days mourning and crying about this loss but, nothing WILL EVER BRING HER BACK!!!! I only wish now that I would have taken her to our normal vet, Los Feliz small animal hospital!!! I am doing everything in my power to stop people from going to the Warren animal hospital ( Hospital needs to be deleted from their title) I have even started an official investigation into this "clinic" by the Vetenarian's Board. I am urging anyone who has had a negative experience to speak out, so we may save future lives from these butchers. Their license needs to be revoked and anyone wanting to join our protest is kindly invited.
