We use the highest quality fish fresh daily from Japan and all over the world. Our soy sauce is a special house recipe. We use high quality real wasabi and ginger. We are open 7 days for lunch and dinner. The Morishita family opened the second sushi bar in America in 1966 and have received received a sushi pioneer award and plaque from the California State Assembly. Located on the 3rd floor inside the Little Tokyo Shopping Center (same building as Little Tokyo Galleria Market) on the corner of Alameda and 3rd Street.
This little place is located on the top floor of the "Mizuwa" Supermarket building. The location is not good, but oh my! They have one of the BEST sushi in town! The sashimi is good, and fresh, and they also have some cooked la carte... with the very very reasonable price! I am very picky about my sushi, and have been going to many other "top 10 sushi" in LA. However, this place is always ranked #1 when it comes with quality and price. DEFINATELY check it out if you like sushi! P.S. They validate the parking, too.
PROS: freshness, quality, service
CONS: location

Was this review helpful to you?
I was down in LA last weekend for a company training and about 15 of us went to Sushi Go 55 on Saturday night. Not only was the food outstanding, but the staff was extremely helpful and friendly with our group. We had gone to another sushi place Friday night closer to the hotel (will remain nameless) but this one was worth the extra drive!! Highly recommended!!

I have been a sushi fan for years, always seeking out the freshest and most authentic sushi . I was recently introduced to Sushi Go 55 by a friend last Saturday. I have returned twice since ( in the same week ! ). I was overwhelmed by the friendly greeting I received upon entering the restaurant - by the owner as well as the entire staff. Once seated at the sushi bar, I was in for a treat - some of the freshest and most delicious sushi I have ever encountered. The specials were delectable, each one more enticing. The live sweet shrimp was scrumptious, the mackerel a total delight. I owe a great thanks to my dear friend for sharing her secret - Sushi Go 55 is gem !
Pros: Fresh Fish, Great Service, Good Parking

I dine at this sushi restaurant almost on a weekly basis for lunch. Why? Because it is good and affordable. I usually order the "take" sushi which is a sushi combination plate. with about 8 (?) pieces of my favorite sushi plus a cucumber roll, and a variety of appetizers and miso soup. The fish is always fresh. I especially love their salmon and yellowtail. All of that for just $10! Can't beat this price. I always leave with a full stomach. I highly recommend this dish if you go there. Their Chirashi is also very good. Always beautifully crafted by their skillful sushi chefs. All the staff can speak English and Japanese, and are really friendly. I think it has the best sushi of the best value in Little Tokyo by far.

It's definitely hard to find good sushi in LA. This was such a treat. We made reservations at the bar and were seated promptly by very kind Japanese hostesses. Their amaebi (sweet shrimp) was still alive before it was served! The mirugai (jumbo clam) was perfect in texture and flavor. The hamachi was so buttery. We could've gone on and on. The check was unbelievably reasonable. We will definitely be back.
Pros: service, fresh sushi

Such an unassuming location for such outstanding sushi. My wife and I have had sushi in many places from Washington D.C. to New York City to Salt Lake City. This is by far the best sushi we have ever had. Very fresh and very flavorful. We had the otoro, which was at market price and $14 for 2 pieces. Just perfect. We also had salmon, a spider roll, California roll, dragon roll, and spicy tuna. All well made with great presentation, and so fresh. The management and staff were extremely friendly and accomodating. If you're in Los Angeles and like sushi, do not miss this restaurant.
Pros: Fresh Sushi, Delicious Sushi, Friendly Staff
Cons: More variety of sushi

My wife and I have been going to Sushi Go 55 for many times now, the foods are good the service is above average. However, one thing bothers me is after you finish eating at the sushi bar, when the bill comes, it does not show what you have ordered. The bill only showed the total dollar amount for the food. I think it will be easier for everybody if the bill will come with a detail list of food ordered.
Pros: free parking, food
Cons: no detail on the bill

Having eaten Sushi at all the Big Name local, valley, and westside it's easy to recognize very fresh fish and large portions at a fair price. Don't miss their Lunch Special the best deal in LA.

Sit at the bar. Loved the toro sushi. Saw some really creative work by the sushi chef. Definetly worth it.

Sushi Go 55 definitely merits the high marks and recognition it has received. I was there last night for dinner with my girlfriend.
We started our evening with some hot house sake and 2 pieces of blufin toro. Wow, simply amazing! They dont list the days market price of fish. When I got my bill the two pieces of toro cost $30. That is my only complain.
The meal itself was amazing. After the toro we ordered the Chirashi Jyu Sushi Box Matsu. Along with the sashimi, we also ordered a shrimp tempura roll. A huge roll at that!
The bill was right around $85 including tip. If not for the toro, I would value this restaurant as "recommended". But you do get what you pay for, excellent food. I'll definitely go back again. I'll just skip the toro next time.
Pros: Box Specials, BlueFin Toro, House Sake
Cons: Hard to find, no market price list

It s a cute restaurant with a tasty food, I will recommend it to my friends.
The price are reasonable too.
The service was professional.
Go 55 65 75 and more and more
Pros: sushi, price, location
Cons: none

This place has dynamite fish. I don't know how anyone finds this place because it's tucked away in this weird mall, but do yourself a favor and make the journey. I've strayed away from things like salmon over time after having much lackluster mainstream fish cuts, but this place turned my world upside-down.
Pros: Awesome fish, Good service
Cons: Small

the food is good here(sushi, udon) but don't order the toro(fatty tuna belly) sushi unless you wanna get ripped off!! asked the waitress how much the toro was-since it said market price-she said $7.50. i assumed $7.50 per order-but no it was $7.50 per piece i found out later after i've eaten four pieces(two order).it came out to $30 for two order of toro(4 pieces). i told her you should state prices per sushi order which is two pieces/order so in the future customers won't get pissed off and feel like they got ripped off!! she sais sorry and stated some people order one piece of toro for $7.50. seems like you can get a nice piece of steak for $30=4 small pieces of toro....
Pros: quiet, not crowded
Cons: price

This is real sushi. We have been to hundreds of different sushi houses all over the US. This is the best. Let the chef prepare the recommended specials. Only 5% of US sushi houses have fresh eel (most have frozen) The fresh eel here is the best anywhere.

Best sushi I've had in the last 5 years. Strange to find in it such an unassuming location. The service was excellent, including the extremely tasty recommendations of the Manager, Eiji Morishita (spelling?). I cannot recommend this restaurant enough, especially for the value-conscious sushi lover.
Pros: Fresh fish, Inexpensive, Service
Cons: Ambiance

Cons: WAITRESS, SLOW

My friends and I have been going to Little Tokyo weekly for years, and the best find this summer has been Sushi Go 55 !!! The sushi lunch special is amazing. Everything is fresh, and the service is wonderful.
It is in the Mitsuwa Plaza on 3rd & Alameda. The parking is free.
It is the new favorite LT hot spot!

My 2nd experince wasn't as pleasant. Food was so-so. I was disappointed the sushi chef wasn't as exceptional as before - the care, attention, quality just wasn't there. I did have a nice conversation w/ the owner, learned about his background and family. In any event, this is an update from my last review...
Ambiance was reminiscent of my trips to Japan, service was beyond exceptional, chef was quick and friendly, and the food was the best part of the entire experience. We ordered toro, sha-ke, albacore, ama-ebi, maguro, unagi, and soft-shell crab. All fresh and delicious the fish melts in your mouth! The fresh abalone was a special that was also ordered. I tried it but found it not to my liking, much too chewy for my taste. We finished dinner with fresh fruit w/a hint of sweet plum wine.

I really disappointed food which are sushi, sashimi and tempura of this restaurant.
This is just average japanese dish, not 10 point rating food.
Pros: service
Cons: food

I was skeptical that a place with such great prices could get these kinds of reviews. I am skeptical no longer. I had the eel on rice daily special, plus saba and shad sushi. The sushi was very fresh, the eel was flavorful, and the overal presentation of the food was "aesthetically pleasing." We were seated immediately without a reservation, though the restaurant is small - reservations are probably a good idea, espeically for a large group.
Pros: fresh fish, good prices, easy parking

This sushi place is exceptional. My fiancee and I are always in the hunt for great sushi bars and this place is GOOD!. The fresh-est fish around. We had the fresh/live amaebi, spanish mackeral, uni, magaro, toro and a host of other fresh catch. You will not be dissapointed with this sushi spot. The sushi chefs are not loud and abnoxious, but they truly display their talents where it counts. The cut of the fish. The portions are fair. Try the specials- you will not be dissapointed. All in all, it was a great time with good service and wonderful food. Plus, you get free dessert!
Pros: Parking, Easy excess

The sushi is wonderful! The fish is fresh. The toro is to die for! It melts in your mouth. The ankimo was the best I've had. Fresh wasabi and very nice ginger. Uni is very fresh and has a natural sweetness to it.
The nori seaweed is crispy when you bite into their handrolls. I like their negi hama. Yellowtail Green Onion hand roll.
You must try the shiitake ebi appetizer. Shrimp and shiitake mushroom served tempura style with lemon and sea salt. Outstanding!
Great value for the quality of sushi you are getting. I've paid over $100/person at other places that is solid but not as good.
Nice place to take for first dates at the sushi bar since you are facing the chef and it is more comfortable.
Pros: Fresh fish, Free Parking, Friendly Service

Sushi Go 55 is that really rare combination of exceptionally good sushi (by anyone's standards), attentive & expert service from folks so nice that you want to keep coming back and a bill that is shockingly reasonable for the quality dining experience that you just had. The fried oysters and stuffed shitake appetizers inspired me to do my iron chef judge impression (the actress with the high voice), but the real star is the sushi... I had the sampler but I can't wait to go back and sit at the bar... the chefs are real experts... I'm sure I would enjoy anything they put infront of me.
Pros: Easy parking

One just can't throw around the word "best" in discribing sushi restaurants because let's face it, one can't have bad sushi and still live to tell about it. There are a lot of good sushi out there but I had the most amazing experience at Sushi Go 55. The friendly manager and staff took care of my weary, famished friend and I by selecting a flavorful seaweed salad, oysters fried to perfection, buttery selection of sushi including spicy tuna with just the right amount of heat without the goop. Needless to say, I now have found the best sushi in LA.
Pros: food, friendly service, validated parking

It was a little hard to find, but definitely worth it! Great food and excellent service!

Sushi Go 55 serves fresh and delicious food that is unique and rarely seen. The service is top-notch and the people there are very friendly. This is a restaurant everyone should go to.

We are so happy to have found Sushi Go 55. There have been several other sushi restaurants in the same location over the past several years and this is the best one yet. Great service, great menu, fresh food, very nice atmosphere. We will be back again and again and again and again . . . .

Great mouthwatering sushi -- and a great selection of fresh, seasonal fish. And if you're not in the mood for Sushi, try the Japanese tapas. From the sliced conch in a light, warm broth to the vinegared crab, this might be the best Japanese food I've had in Los Angeles.

we walked into this restaurant not really expecting too much. what a surprise however. overall, the fish was quite fresh and good. the service was good and their specials are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. i am quite particular about sushi, but i would have to say that sushi go 55 has my recommendation. it is a great bargain as well as far as sushi places are concerned.
