My friends and I love going to Anarkali, they have the best Chicken Tikka Masala in town. I also love their Shrimp Vindaloo, it is balanced perfectly. We love Anarkali, because they know how to take care of their customers. They are very accomodating to everyone's needs. The service is very friendly. I love the ambience of the restaurant. Anarkali also does delivery service, which is perfect for me when I want to stay home with my lady.

Pros: Everything

Cons: Nothing

.

I love Anarkali. The food and service both are amazing. The food is fresh, everything from the snacks to the main courses to the desserts. This is one of my favorite places to go to, and I would pick it over the other restaurants in the area. Also, the decor is very pretty and provides a natural and comfortable feel. I would definitely recommend it! It is a great place to go with the family.

Pros: Authenic Indian Feel and Family Friendly

It was absolutely delicious. I especially liked the vegetable dishes. The naan was baked well. I would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of Indian food.

Pros: Good Service and Good Food

.

We were visiting from the Bay Area which by no means is the mecca of Indian food. However the service and food at Anarkali in Los Angeles were absolutely terrible. Being from India my family has plenty of experience in Indian food

First of all we had a 50 off 100 coupon which the restaurant itself offered on a website. Not only did the waiter make it a point to remind us that certain things didn't qualify EVERY TIME he came to our table(we know how to read thanks), he was loud enough to make others know we were using such a coupon and in a way were inferior to others. I am sorry for being diligent enough to find a deal you were stupid enough to offer.

The food was terrible( i think the fact we had a coupon played a role ) . Everything was ordered very spicy. In return we got oily ( we could see the oil floating on top of every dish) , bland and an excuse for food. In fact the service was so poor that they forgot to bring the sweet dish for the already expensive thali.

Cons: terrible terrible non-spicy, oily food. Never again

I have to say that two of my favorite dishes, Chicken Tikka Masala and Shrimp Vindaloo were exceptionally great. Vindaloo was nice and spicy and you can taste the flavor of the dish. What can I say about the masala? It was perfect.
The service was great, which sometimes can lack at some Indian restaurants. Thank You Anarkali!!!

I am a regular customer of Anarkali and I have to say that their food is absolutely delicious. They are very friendly and accommodating to the needs of their customers. Sometimes you have to wait for a table because they are very busy, but the wait is worth it. I highly recommend Anarkali to anyone looking for a good Indian restaurant that does not disappoint.

I had to try Anarkali, because everytime I am here for business, my colleagues would tell me how great the food was at Anarkali. Finally, this past weekend I went there with a friend and I was amazed at how good this restaurant was. The food reminded me of my favorite restaurant in London. The Chicken Tikka Masala was excellent and Shrimp Vindaloo was simply superb. The restaurant is very beautiful and for a very busy place the service was great.

I am of South Asian descent and would consider myself a connoisseur on Indian food. With that being said, the food at Anarkali is an excellent blend of herbs, spices, meats, and vegetables.

As far as the atmosphere is concerned, the staff was very attentive to our dining needs in spite of the fact that it was busy. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. The price isn't bad either. I highly recommend it.

Beware - Do not go by online ratings !

Go by those one/ two star real reviews peppered among the mostly 'good' ones.

Nothing Indian about any food. Just lousy cooking.
Went tonight for a farewell dinner for my colleague. Nothing good about anything we ordered (except the raita), but sure enough got a hefty bill for 3 with a hefty service charge !!

Veg Soup - tasted nothing more than watered sambar
Paneer mutter - Of course filled with paneer and peas. But tasted like feet.
Aloo Gobi - Pile of huge pieces of cauliflower and potatoes. Blank, blank, blank.
Chicken Biriyani - Peas and more peas.

Did I say peas many times.. ?? Seemed like a 'peas' truck overturned in their kitchen.

I can go on and on - about the veg biriyani, 'bread-tasty' gulab jamun and others. But not worth the time I spend writing this.

Still pisesd off about what I had to pay for this carp..
WILL NEVER GO AGAIN

I love this place because of consistency in their food and service. Everytime I have the Chicken Tikka Masala, its perfect. I love the ambiance of the restaurant. Also, they deliver free and its fast and quality is same as if you are dining in. They give great portions of entrees and their menu price is very reasonable compare to other Indian restaurants. By the way, if you like drinking beer, try Taj Mahal beer, its really good.

I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes or wants to try Indian food. Perfect place to take a date or just have dinner with friends. The ambiance sets to the mood for a delicious Indian dinner. The prices were reasonable as well. Customer service was off the charts!

The only thing I would change is to order my food hot/spicy. We asked for medium and it was a bit too mild. That said, I LOVE hot food, but I think the others in our party were a little scared of what the spices could do. Mistake on our part.

SUMMARY: Great food, but beware. Will try to trick you in and get as much money out of you as possible.

I went there today for dinner after seeing all of the great reviews on here. I can say without a doubt that the food is great. We ordered the Anarkali Dinner for 2 for 49.95 after our friend told us of a coupon for $25 off of $40 found at the restaurants website. When we got there, they told us that the coupon did not work on this Anarkali Dinner for 2 as "too many people were ordering it" and they were not benefiting from the purchase. Nowhere on the coupon did it say that excluded this dinner. That was just the beginning.

After negotiating with the owner via phone, the owner allow us to use this coupon only at that instance. Then the food came. The vegetable soup and somosas were great. Best somosas I've ever had. The chicken masala was also excellent, but the sag paneer was a little dry. The coconut vegetable curry was quite good as well. As we looked at other experiences at this restaurant online, we realized in hindsite that they did not give us any naan. In hindsite, I believe that this was purposeful neglect.

When the check came it included an automatic 18% tip even though it was just 2 of us. The waiter pointed out to the very last line of the very last page of the menu where it said "18% tips will be charged." This is an odd place to put it. What was more odd was the waiter's explanation that they charged 18% tips on all orders. I cannot verify this as I have only been there once, but I feel that if this was true, business would significantly suffer. Furthermore, on the $25 off coupon, it says "18% tip will be added to parties of 4 or more." As there were only two of us, it does not make sense to me why they would add the 18% charge.

In the end, I was so disgusted with the service and the ploy to milk me for my money that I paid no tips watsoever.

Pros: samosa, chicken masala, coconut curry

Cons: attempts to rip you off

.

Went there last night and WOW! I will now be a regular! Had to come here to write a review and was a bit surprised to see some negative reviews. The service was outstanding. I had just sat down when I was given a complimentary samosa. Great start. The vegetable kurma was superb and the green sauce that comes with the popadam is extraordinary - I kept it to put on the kurma! I highly recommend this place!!

My friends and I heard about this Indian Restaurant and we decided to go there last weekend. When we got there and it was packed. We had to wait about twenty minutes for our table, but the wait was well worth it. Everything we got was excellent, especially the Chicken Tikka Masala. It was the best Chicken Tikka Masala I ever tasted. I know Indian food well and this Indian Restaurant Rocks. My friends and I are also very happy that they are open late, it give us time to eat late on weekends and start hitting the clubs afterward. For a busy Indian Restaurant, their service from beginning to end was excellent.
Keeping Rocking Anarkali!!!!

My food was bland. Maybe this was my fault because I asked for no spice - maybe that's where all the taste is. I also got a vegetarian dish... The place has cute booths and nice decor, but don't expect to be swept off your feet by the service.

I have been eating at Anarkali since I moved here five years ago and everytime my girlfriend and I eat there or get delivery from them, its been great. The restaurant is beautiful and romantic. The service is very friendly and attentitive. My favorite dish is the chicken tikka masala and they make it perfect. Their menu price is very cheap compare to other Indian restaurants. I LOVE ANARKALI and plan to go there until I die.

I don't know where to begin. The serving staff was unfriendly, rude, bitter and clearly didn't want to to be there. The food was awful -The Tikka Masala sauce was obviously out of a can, the Aloo Gobi was inedible and the Eggplant Bartha was barely tolerable. The rice was even bad. Since moving to LA a couple of months ago, I can honestly say that this was the worst meal I have had in this city. As lovers of Indian food, my husband and I were beyond disappointed...

I used to love going to this place. The Indian food is superb and the ambience is nice, with beaded curtains adorning comfy booths. I stopped going there because once I called to order take-out, but I had to call back to cancel the order. Even though I called back less than 5 minutes after I first placed the order and I was VERY apologetic, the person who answered the phone got rude and hung up on me.

I was there over the weekend with my husband, and I'm already going through withdrawl. What can I say? I absolutely love this place!! From the moment you walk in you are welcomed with by the friendly staff, the warm and inviting decor, and traditional music playing in the background, which adds the perfect touch. And the food is superb!!! Seriously, I've tried numerous dishes and I've never been disappointed for not going with my "usual" dish. I also appreciate that they ask how spicy you'd like your dish, which really shows just how hospitable they truly are.

I went there the other night for dinner and as always, had the most wonderful experience. I've been going there for over 7 years, and the food and service is consistantly amazing! They always greet your table with three wonderful sauces and complimentary poppadom. It's actually a running joke with our friends that my husband is such a fan of their green sauce (sorry don't know the actual name) that he could drink it straight from the dish. And the atmosphere is so ideal - it's not only a wonderful place for an intimate dinner with that special someone, it's also perfect for a fun night out with a group.

I've been going to Anarkali for years. I adore Indian food and this is without question the best in L.A. We have never had a bad experience here. My wife and I even considered asking if they would cater our wedding, but we realized some people may not like Indian food. But that's how good this place is! The owner, Saad, is extraordinarily kind and gracious. The prices are quite reasonable. I recommend the saag paneer and the chicken tikka masala. Oh, and a large bottle of Himalayan Blue beer!

I went to this restaurant expecting great food. Unfortunately, I found it highly overrated. The curry was luke warm and tasted like it had been cooked the day before. I was also not impressed with the overall cleanliness. The service was mildly 'unfriendly' and I had to wait ages before I got my bill. Definitely a place to be missed.

I simply adore this place. I was introduced to them many years ago, and have been going back ever since. From day one they were the warmest, most welcoming group of people, with food to match. Not that it's an expectation when dining, but the staff actually remembers their clientelle, creating a home away from home feeling. Even with their incredible prices, they gave us a $10 off coupon that never expires! To this day, 6 years later, they still honor it, and... I've actually misplaced it, never remind them of my coupon, yet they take it off of our bill - truly amazing, and kind!!

My boyfriend introduced me to this place. I really like their garlic naan and their chicken tiki marsala (it's pretty good). But, the service is horrible. They basically forget about you and only come to your table to bring you your food and the check. You have to flag them down if you need anything like refills on drinks or additional food items.

A friend brought us here because he loves their tikki masala. Turns out that's the only thing he's ever ordered - and the only thing worth ordering, from what I can tell. Everyone else in our group had very bland food with poorly cooked meat. But the chicken tikka masala was good, I'll give them that.

I highly recommend getting the Samosas! I stop by there often just to pick them up as a small lunch. The garlic naan is scrumptious. Huge portions too. An all-around good deal. I've never had a bad experience here, and it's the only Indian place I've made repeat business at for the last five years.

I highly recommend getting the Samosas! I stop by there often just to pick them up as a small lunch. The garlic naan is scrumptious. Huge portions too. An all-around good deal. I've never had a bad experience here, and it's the only Indian place I've made repeat business at for the last five years.

.

Thanks to the owner's "perpetual coupon," I'm hooked! Every time I go here, I bring my $10 off coupon, and the waiter applies the discount and lets me keep the coupon for my next visit. Even without this seemingly too-good-to-be-true deal, I'd go here anyways -- the food is consistently good. They have a small selection of Indian beers (Taj Mahal, Kingfisher, etc.), and the ambiance is groovy -- low lighting and comfy booths separated by gauzy curtains. The service is attentive and they'll make great recommendations if you're indecisive. The naan bread is a favorite (they have several types), as are the lamb dishes. Free street parking is easy to find and the prices are reasonable. Overall, a good experience.

Pros: Consistently good food, good service, reasonable prices

Cons: Well, their men's room could use a little spackling, but that's about it.

Went there for dinner on a weeknight. Even though we were the only ones there, service was painfully slow. I ordered one of their specials which included naan, dessert and tea, and ordered a roti on the side. Not only did they not serve me the naan, dessert, and tea, they overcharged us. We complained to the server and he said that he thought the roti was a replacement for the naan, yet, we were still charged for the roti. There were no apologies or attempts to correct the bill. Never going back again.

Great food. Great prices. Great location. I've been going there for five years and finally its time to write a review! They deserve it! Delicious samosas, tasty curries, and excellent service. This is definitely the best and most reliable, no frills place for Indian food! :)

I have had a lot of Indian food and Anarkali is consistently quality. although the majority of my experience is with their delivery service, I am always treated wonderfully when I dine in. If you are looking for good Indian on the east side- Anarkali is the place to go!

Something peculiar about this place, but we don't care. The atmosphere is oddly compelling, the service is great and the food is excellent. The restaurant definitely has its own character and flavor, and thankfully, both are good. Love the lamb dishes, love the coconut curry chicken, love the saag paneer and love the Yeti!

We always have great food here and leave stuffed - I love spicy food and theirs can get quite hot, even if you ask for it just medium-spicy! Everything we've tried here is full of flavor, and you can tell they're not holding back in the kitchen - it can be a little overwhelming... We've never had to wait for a table. The food here is as good as any other Indian restaurant in the city.

Thier Lunch menu is wonderful. very tasty food, fast service. Delivery time each time I have ordered is stated 45mins but always arrives faster. Serving size is good value for your money. The regular priced menu is about on par with most really good Indian sit down restaurants. would highly recommend to those who are craving Indian cusine but getting out of the office mid day isn't an option. Favorite dishes are the Sag Paneer and Bombay Aloo.

My husband and I ate here last week. We were the only two people in the place, and yet service was slow....but it's the food that I remember. It was just plain bad. The curry was so salty I couldn't eat it, and the Tikki Masala had no flavor. I don't know, this may have been a fluke...but I will never ever go back to figure out if it was.

I have been coming to Anarkali for 6 months now, since I live a few blocks away. In my experiences, the servers were very helpful and quick. The food is terrific, especially the chicken tikka masala. I like the garlic naan, and their Indian beer is excellent. By the way, they are always very generous in giving me appetizers and desserts on the house.

A friend of mine introduced me to Anarkali a while ago and I've invited many people here since. I will be honest and say that I cannot agree or disagree with reviewers that it isn't authentic Indian food, due to my lack of experience, but I have ordered chicken tikka masala at a great many places around town and this is my favorite. The service definitely leaves something to be desired, and you have to sometimes ask for things twice. In some cases, I've asked for my dish to be spicy and it arrives medium, and sometimes I order it medium and it arrives completely mild. It certainly has a pleasant ambience at night with dim lighting and plenty of booths. Sometimes it's a bit too quiet.

All I can remember was that the puri bread - was the highlight, I kid you not, it puffed up like the size of a bowling ball and delicious too! This restaurant's not all that authentic, but came pretty close and the food was acceptable in terms of taste and quantity. But if you're in the Melrose area, I guess that's all you'll find and get. The service was good during the day and the food's just right on for lunch.
I think the owners' are Bangladeshi...but word out on an "authentic" Indian restaurant coming soon and I just can't wait!

Anarkali has the best overall Indian food I have had in Los Angeles, and I've tried many. It may not have the ambiance of Electric Lotus, but it puts their food to shame. The Lamb Vindaloo is excellent- stick to medium spicy or you'll burn out your taste buds- as is the Chicken Tikka Masala (not so spicy). Vege Curry also great. For appetizers, try the Onion Bhajje or Vegetable Samosa. Don't forget a Garlic Naan, or if you like coconut, the Sweet Naan (not on the menu). The service is fast and friendly, and they've always thrown in a free beer or soup or dessert when I've gone. They also have free delivery at lightening fast speed.

What's hit or miss about this place? Every time I've been here the food has been great, service has been excellent, and I leave having received a free beer or a $10 gift certificate for the next visit. It's the best Indian food I've had in LA. The music is a bit weird on occasion though. But I guess it adds to the experience.
